  1. I'm going alone. My husband and kids will be in San Diego on vacation while I have the surgery. I've had friends offer to go with me, and I feel bad, but I keep talking them out of it. I really want to have the time to just focus on me and sleep when I want.
  2. Oh no!!! I'm hoping no recent updates means you are either in surgery, or they gave you triple the calm down meds and you are out enjoying the loopies before surgery first thing tomorrow!
  3. Girl, I think just like you!!!!! I was hoping someone would tell me that! Hahahahaha!!!! Thanks!
  4. Thank you Icon23!!!!!! You have made me feel so wonderful and much, much, much less anxious with your fantastic descriptions and pictures!!!!
  5. Healthy & Skinny - I will see you there!!!!!! Yay!!!!!
  6. I'll be there April 8th, and I am also traveling alone. It's good to know we will all be there together!!!!
  7. Absolutely. When I starting thinking seriously about this, the LAST appointment I made was w/ the surgeon. First, it was a nutritionist, second w/ a therapist who focuses on WLS patients (she had the sleeve herself!) and then it was the surgeon. I think the discussions I've been having w/ the therapist are much harder and honestly, must more important than the surgery. After seeing her for several months, and knowing I will still see her afterward, I feel much more prepared and ready than I ever would otherwise!
  8. FANTASTIC information!!!!! Thank you so much for thinking of all of us and sharing your stories!!!! Great to hear you are doing so well!
  9. THANK YOU everyone for this forum!!!! I'm grateful each day that I can come here and participate in this amazing journey with you!!!! I was so depressed after being denied by my insurance, but with the information you provided and shared here, I'm 100% confident in my decision to go to MX and to do it alone. THANK YOU!
  10. Oh, and why does every list have tweezers???? Is there some need for them I'm missing?
  11. Great post, thank you!!!! I'm going in April and have been looking over 'what to bring' lists, and could not find one that was MX specific!
  12. Good luck all!!!! I can't wait to hear how fantastically you are both doing!!!!
  13. AStephenson, I'll be there a month after you!!! Also looking for good deals - have you ordered anything yet??? If I find any deals I'll be sure to share!
  14. I bet once you are home safe, and she can see you are okay, her tune will change! You know, and your husband knows, you are making the best choice for you, and that is what matters!!!!
  15. Dr. Ariel Ortiz in TJ on the 8th. Can't wait!!!!
  16. Very cool!!!! I'm going alone as well, just not until April! I'll be looking to you for inspiration!!!!
  17. Great tip, thank you so much!!!! I had not considered that at all!!!! Glad to hear you are doing well!
  18. Yes, how did everything go!?!?! I just scheduled mine for April 8th w/ Dr. Ariel Ortiz!!! I'm going alone, and so very excited!!!!!! Nervous too, of course, but can't wait to get going!!!!
  19. Planning on going in April! My husband and kids will go w/ me to San Diego for a weekend, and then stay there while I go across for surgery. I don't want my kids going w/ me so I can heal and focus on recovery, so they will all play in San Diego and enjoy the sun. We got passports for everyone, just in case I need them to come across, but I can't imagne that happening.
  20. I feel your pain!!!!! I was denied by UHC because I was at a BMI of 39.something over the last 4 years, and only hit a BMI of 40 this year. 39 and change!!!! And they flat out denied the surgery, over what is most likely a shift of about 15 pounds or so. I gave up and am researching Mexico. Already talked to the office of Dr. Ortiz, and am looking at surgery in April. Hang in there!!!!
  21. I agree! I met the requirements set by the insurance, but not the ones set by my husbands company. Sucks! Waiting to start the appeal process now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!
