Interesting thread ... I'm scheduled for a band to sleeve conversion. I'm worried about dealing with complications, but I hope for the best. Hubby is terrified of the whole idea. Just know that with the band you are guaranteed to need another surgery to either remove it or replace it. I wish I had known that before as I wouldn't have done it.

For my band I didn't tell anyone but a hand full of people. Very private. No one at work even knew. I started being open about having the band about 2 years later. Now, most know. But, my surgery to get it removed and replace with the sleeve is back private. Not even my manager knows, and he's had the sleeve and is one of the reasons I'm going to get it. Only my husband and a dear friend know. Just 2.

Hmm, my dr. is saying I can go back in 4 days. Surgery on Wed back to work on Monday. I kinda want this, cause 1, I don't have any vacation time, and 2, I don't want anyone at work to know. Only my supervisor knows I'll be doing something medical. Everyone else I'll just be on vacation. Hope I can manage.

Words Of Encouragement Please!
wdrake_98 replied to imlosingit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with AFormerlife, take lots of pictures. I remember going to walmart at 2 in the morning before my lap band surgery to find a camera that had a timer to take pictures of myself. If you like to read, find something nice and long to read. -
Uggg... Im Getting Annoyed.... Rant

Yea, the time went by really fast for me. I think mine was scheduled for 11:30 and I was there for 8am. No food or Water from 12am until after the EGD too. But once at the hospital, I felt really welcomed and taken care of, I hope yours is the same. After the procedure, you will thank your lucky stars for the ride home. I was ok, physically, but thinking or making important decisions was a bust. I scheduled a phone interview for right after the procedure, and I was a complete air head! Thinking gave me an instant and sharp headache. -
Katie, do you see the differences between your posts and the real supporters here? You sound like, as you actually do, work in a dr's office. 4 years out you are so removed from how the surgery felt you couldn't even answer the question from your actual experience. Sorry Sadie, but I opened this thread because I was interested in the topic, and your question was one I hadn't thought of, given that I'm in a very similar situation. The real supports of this forum offered personal experiences as to their pain, but this Katie woman is a poser, a fake, who works for a dr. that almost killed another member on this forum. So when I see Katie's post, especially when they don't even answer the question from a true patient perspective, I get annoyed. If you wanted the standard answer to the question of recovery you would have asked your Dr.'s assistant.

Weight After Pregnancy

So how had your pregnancy been with the restricted food intake? Are you hungry more/less? Did your OBGYN say anything you have to do special because you had the sleeve? -
My Husband Thinks I'm Copping Out
wdrake_98 replied to Scaredy Cat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW. This is exactly why I'm here!! My husband is very much against me getting this surgery. Like many others he's saying I just need to eat right and be more active. I don't know what to do. We are newly married, only 1 month, and he's viewing MY decision about MY body as much more. He feels I'm defying him as my husband. -
Approved For Band To Sleeve - But My Family Isn't Supportive
wdrake_98 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like to many on this board I've been overweight my entire life. The moment for me that's stuck in my head is a conversation I had with my ex husband only months after over separation. I was 22, and weighted well over 250 pounds. Throughout our 3 year marriage, he was very much in shape, yet killed any drive I had to lose weight myself. Actually saying he didn't want a skinny woman, and would leave if I lost weight. Well, in this conversation, he says to me, "yea, your weight was an issue for me". That was 2002, 10 years ago, and not only do I still remember the his words, but I remember the hurt and still feel it when I remember that conversation. In 2008 at about 270ish I had the Lap band surgery, without complications. Overall, the Band hasn't worked in helping me lose weight. It has helped me maintain my weight. Before the band, I averaged 250-275...with the band my average has been 230-250. In 2010 I started having problems with the band and had to remove all fills. I attempted to get it removed, but didn't have the right insurance at the time. However, I got engaged in October of 2011, and in May of 2012, started a very serious bootcamp in which I lost 30 lbs before our wedding in September. I'm the smallest I've ever been in my life at 220. My insurance now is such that I've been approved to not only get the band removed but to also get the Gastric Sleeve. My husband is NOT AT ALL interested in getting the sleeve, given all the potential complications. I'm full of fear of being that 275lb woman in a few years, this time with kids, that no man will want. I Need support and guidance on what to do........
