  1. Congratulations and best wishes! I'm on Wednesday so know how you're feeling. Stay in touch.
  2. Smooth sailing! I'm Wednesday. Let us know how it goes!
  3. You got this! Gratz on your big day. There are a big bunch of us on for today, tomorrow and wednesday so let's all hang in there and make sure to keep in touch.
  4. I think other factors, perhaps more important than no distractions as you call them, is attitude and expectation. Barring a major complication, you sound like you were in it to win it, had a plan, and expected success. We all have such varied personality traits, both inherent and molded from life experiences that we go into this process with our heads in very very differt places. This is an interesting thought. Glad you brought it up and wishing you continued success.
  5. I think over eaters or WW might be a good option as well. I plan to follow MY plan until nearly at goal and then join OOA or WW to help with suiport inthe months ahead. Maintaining to me will be my biggest challenge.
  6. ....and carby which will play with your insulin levels making you crave more food. Just be careful.
  7. In one store i go to they are in the soy/ tofu section... In another, on an shelf above the veggies! Go figure! I had to ask in that one. Emilybites has tons of recipes using them.
  8. Gratz! Bet you were doing the happy dance in front of the mirror!
  9. Amy... you are just a doll! I can call you that in a very motherly way because I'm probably old enough to be her! Anyway... I have another great saying posted above my monitor that you might find inspirational... Courage is not the absence of fear - Rather the judgment that something else is more important than the fear. When my sons, now in their 30s, were little, I was fat, but young enough to be active. I still did many things with them, but not to the extent I could have had I not been so heavy. I missed so many things I should have experienced with them and I gave up almost everything I truly enjoyed because I was just too fat. I loved showing horses, but finally stopped because I looked awful. I loved to hike and kayak but neither worked out because I was too fat. I was so ashamed when I had to wear some tent type dress for the boys' weddings when the other mothers were slim and wore gorgeous tailored dresses. And when my grandsons got big enough to want me to drop to the floor and work a puzzle or play a game, I made an excuse and missed the chance at that quality time with them. No one should push you to go where you don't want to go, and I'm not trying to do that. I just want you to hear where you could be some day (sooner than you will ever imagine) if you don't make some sort of change now. To continue my tale... I have lost around 100 lbs about 6 times in my life and half that a zillion times. Those months while lighter, but still no where near goal, where the happiest, most confident times of my life. I am not so over the hill that I don't still have many years to enjoy life and do the things I love. Although I thought about surgery the past several years, I was just not ready until this year. Yes I think about the what ifs, but know now that for me this is right. I am going to be in surgery next Wednesday and I will be bike riding and playing ball outside in the heat with my grandsons next summer! A year after that, I will be retiring and we will be planting garden, swimming and fishing to our hearts content. I'll be the healthy grandma in the bleachers cheering them on at their ball games and embarrassing them in front of their friends because of my loud cheers - not because of my obesity! I just cannot wait. And that my friend is all more important than my fear! Whatever you decide will be the right thing for you right now. You are a woman and therefore have been granted the God-given right to change your mind.. at any time and for no reason at all! Best wishes to you in your life's journey. MGT
  10. Love cytosport, but designer whey blitz is even better! I ordered a case after i grabbed several individual bottles from the VitShop case.
  11. Scroll up. He gave some great ideas as did others.
  12. Is it a situation you can disconnect from a little or a lot? If not maybe you can become the voice of reason and lead by example. Bottom line... Protect yourself and your success. You cannot help others by sacrificing youself or at some point you will be running on empty. The breaks for fresh air is a good thought and coming here for support. Hope it is not too serious and soon smooths out.
  13. Gratz! Let us know how it goes! We will be waiting!
  14. Wishing you a non eventful surgery and a speedy recovery! Let us know how it goes.
  15. Welcome Mal! Your story is similar to many of us on this site! I am sure you will find lots of valuable information here. I would suggest you start a dedicated notebook to add info you see here. I sit in the late evenings or early morning and read new posts, then add the tidbits of great knowledge and tips to the various categories specific to this procedure... Vitamins, types of protein powders/drinks, constipation, books, saggy skin, great websites, foods at certain stages, etc. Also, you might want to add the area where you are looking for your surgeon in a post. There are people here from across the nation and around the world! It is great to have you! Good luck with this very interesting journey!
  16. Gratz pookey! Ive followed your post the past 4 months and always enjoy what you have to say. Good luck with the new plan. Ive never tried yoga...always i was way to flabby to ever be able to center myself but a new day is a comin! You make me want to give a beginner program a go!
  17. Stay hydrated. Space protein out and drink it regularly so you dont get too hungry. Mixing a shake with skim milk adds some needed carbs if you are low on them and keeps you from getting fuzzy headed. I was doing prepared shakes and could not get enough carbs and fats. Good luck.
  18. I immediately cut white carbs, starchy veggies and dropped the fruit to lower glycemic fruits. Ate a high protein diet and followed the basic rules... Protein first, small bites, chew to nothing, no water 30 before and 45 after and learned to track intake daily.. It got my cabinets cleaned out and started building good habits for post op. i also think it has made the liquid phase easier to live with.... Oh..and lost 23 pounds in the process. I wish i had been able to make myself exercise more because i believe surgery recovery goes easier if you have.
  19. Books mentioned the past 5 months. The end of overeating, weightloss surgery for dummies, shrinkyourself.com and book, life after bariatric surgery, emotional eating, mindless eating, intuitive eating, the power of habit, hungry, the end of overeating, anatomy of a food addiction, successful weightloss with the gastric sleve.
