My hair started falling out heavily after about 4 months. I got worried and started taking Biotin. I only took it for a few weeks because I noticed my other hair (underarm, leg, down below) was growing back super fast and I hated it! I stopped taking the Biotin, and am just now starting to notice that my Hair loss is not as severe anymore. I'm not sure if I can credit the Biotin or not because 1) I only took it for maybe 2 weeks and 2) I heard after 6 months the hair loss starts to slow down or stop and on the 28th I will be at my 6 months. I also heard that it can't be avoided, so that's another reason why I stopped taking the Biotin.

Does your Multi-Vitamin have Biotin? You may want to add in a biotin Vitamin and Nioxin or another Protein type Shampoo and make sure you get in your 60-80 grams of protein a day. The Hair loss is normal from 3-8 months. From my profile pic I had pretty long hair but for the past few weeks I've been shedding worse than my cats, washing my hair, brushing, flat ironing, driving with a window down, sitting still.. long blonde hairs were getting on everyone so Saturday I had it cut in layers above my shoulders. The girl shampooed it and combed it out and gobs were coming out and she said I see why you're having it cut short... It looks fuller and though it's still falling out, it doesn't look it such big qtys. Good luck, it will get better .

Hi, I am pre-op, but I can tell you just from doing my research here that YES, Hair loss is very common, most people experience it after wls. However, for the vast majority of people, it stops about 3 - 6 months after it starts and your hair grows back.
A lot of people have different theories about Vitamins or minerals that can be used to help with hair loss: Protein, zinc (be very careful with zinc supplementing as too much zinc is very dangerous), B-12, Iron, etc.
If you want something to help cover up any thinning spots temporarily, look into products like Nanogen, Toppik, or Sally Jessy's Great Hair Day. They are powders that you shake into your hair and thicken it and cover up any scalp that might show through. This part I am experienced with b/c I have pretty bad hair loss even before surgery and I use these products myself already. You can Google them and find places to buy them. My personal favorite is Nanogen but they are all good.
    Good luck!

I meant to reply here, sorry. I found out on this site about Biotin Supplement. I have been taking it twice a day in preparation for my surgery. I have a coworker that swears by it, and she has the most beautiful hair.< /p>
