  1. thanks, newat52...I am just over a week out--still on liquids for another week
  2. tigerbelle

    So happy and excited!

you have a great attitude...I wish you the best...make sure to touch base with us post-op
  3. newat52, I thank you as well, even though your response was for takingbackcontrol...I am 5'2" as well but only set my goal for now as 150, because I've got a lot more to lose than you did and I wanted to set a realistic goal for myself...I am curious--at 10 weeks out, what is a typical day of eating for you?

thanks, everybody...I am feeling much better now about my chances to get off the diabetes meds, especially the insulin

    Diabetic Sleevers?

I welcome any feedback about some of my concerns...I am one week out from my surgery and have not taken any of my diabetes meds since I came home from the hospital...my PCP advised me not to take them unless my glucose levels were consistently over 150...well, I have not been pleased so far, because I've had a few readings as high as 200 I am concerned because I am hardly taking in any calories (definitely less than 800 daily) and no carbs...I thought for sure my levels would stay below 150, but I guess not...I was truly optimistic that I might be one of those diabetics who post-VSG never had to take meds again...I was just wondering if anyone could share their experiences the first weeks after VSG surgery (diabetics that is)...I will say that I have been a diabetic for over 10 years now, and have been on a high level of meds (1000mg metformin twice daily plus 40 units of Lantus insulin daily)...maybe that has something to do with it

How do you feel 3 months out

this is good news for me, too...I had surgery May 6 and have a cruise scheduled to leave October 13...I will be 5 months out by then...from what y'all are reporting, by 5 months I should be able to enjoy the cruise--well not the food of course lol
  8. first of all, at almost one week out, I am very fortunate so far not to have had any complications or significant issues...that being said, I must confess I am a little worried that I don't feel like I expected to feel...I did not expect to crave food as badly as I do ...I had hoped--like many others have posted--that I wouldn't feel hungry and that I wouldn't really have an interest in food...even though I know it isn't the case, I honestly feel like I could eat an entire entree at a restaurant right now...maybe I am just going through a period of mourning of a sort; i.e., grieving my "old" eating habits...I am just venting emotionally right now on here, because I don't think my family and friends would really understand

    May 2013 Sleevers!

as of this morning, I am down 10 pounds from the day I went in for surgery
  10. For me, it was a matter of comparing the pros and cons...I was probably a lot more reluctant than the average obese person considering WLS, because of some traumatic previous non-WLS surgery experiences...I am also an emotional eater and know the sleeve is only a tool and not the end-all solution...my age (I'm 51) and the seriousness of my comorbidities (especially my type 2 diabetes which has been out of control) finally led me to make the decision (I was sleeved a week ago)...I honestly cannot now--being only a week out--tell you whether I am pleased with my decision, but I knew it was the right one for me at the time...the only true advice I can give you is to continue to do the research and consider options until you feel reasonably sure and confident

    May 2013 Sleevers!

My NUT has me on full liquids until two weeks out...on the third week post-op, I can start soft foods--my plan skips the puree stage altogether...I am looking forward to taking a bite of soft scrambled eggs in about a week

    May 2013 Sleevers!

all the best to the newly joined May sleevers...the surgery itself went better than I expected, and I am thankful most of my issues post-op last week were emotional and not physical...thoughts and prayers are with you all!

    Solids To Early

agree with superchica...earlier today I was drinking some liquids while on the PC...I picked up the bottle and took a "swig" without even thinking consciously "sip sip sip"...I realized it almost immediately and was almost frozen with fear that I was gonna feel this huge pain...luckily, it went down fine...but like superchica said, you have to focus and always be mentally aware of what you are eating and drinking, tough as it is

    I am worried

LOL, I forgot about those Hee Haw guys...perfect music
  18. this was a good topic for me to read, because I have been worrying about some of the same things as others...I am only a week out and am still on a liquid diet--consuming very few calories...I thought for sure my glucose level would be normal or might even get lower than normal...that has not been the case so far one of my primary reasons for having VSG was to try to resolve my diabetes...my levels got high one time in the hospital, and I needed 2 units of insulin...since I've been home, I haven't yet taken any of my meds (I was on 1000 mg of metformin twice daily with 40 units of Lantus daily)...my dr said I can stay off the meds as long as my levels average no higher than 150...so far they have been a little higher than than during the day (160s) but even got to 200 once today...I guess if they don't go down, I will have to start back on some of my meds...I am trying not to get down about this while I am still only 1 week out from surgery, but it's hard

    I am worried

thanks for the encouragement, kiki yeny, we'll just have a long-distance pity party...anybody else invited who wants to "come over" for a little while

do you have a blender where you could make your shakes icy? that helps me get them in

    May 6 post surgery

gosh...already lost 16 pounds? that's amazing...only about 8 for me no pain other than gas the first couple of days home...haven't taken any pain meds at home...dr. gave me a prescription for liquid Lortab, but I tried it once in the hospital, and it tastes so horrible that I think I would prefer the pain unless it was excessive I am still on full liquids for at least five more days...I may talk to my NUT this week and see if this weekend I can progress to soft foods...a bite of scrambled eggs would taste wonderful right now (warning: had a small private pity party here today) I've got the same colorful bruises, kalicat, and also my biggest challenge is getting in the Protein and staying hydrated I've got another week home before returning to work, even though I am trying to do a little work from home let's stay in touch here...and Happy Mother's Day to all!! Just think: next Mother's Day, we will be over a year out!

    May 2013 Sleevers!

how is everybody's energy level? I am still on full liquid diet and trying to get proteins in, but my energy level is very low--especially today for some reason...how much protein is everybody getting in? I know I need to get more in, because I am averaging in the upper 50s
  23. tigerbelle

    I am worried

I started taking Prevacid (a PPI) today--I am hoping that will help...having a little pity party today hearing about some friends and family going out for breakfast and dinner for mother's day...I just keep telling myself that one day I will be able to do that, but I will just make healthy choices and eat very small portions...it really helps to hear that others have had similar experiences...that's my favorite part about spending time here on the message board
  24. good job...and I think there are advantages to being a "slow loser"...it gives you more time to learn new eating behaviors and adjust to the "new" you
  25. tigerbelle

    Feeling really scared

Ditto what Sherry said--we are fellow May 6 sleevers...looking forward to your update when you are post-surgery...you, too, Lawrence
