  1. Just hit 1 month post op yesterday. Had a bad sinus infection 2weeks out that I am just now getting over. (only a slight cough left). I am nauseated almost every morning. Today it got so bad that I ended up in the bathroom at work dry heaving bc my stomach was empty.. I can't really stop at work to eat anything and I did have some string cheese for Breakfast.. Doc called in more Zofran, but I'm worried this is going to be a recurring thing for a while.. Any advice as to what to eat for breakfast that might help? I will admit I am not a big breakfast person and never have been, but the nausea makes it almost impossible to even get a little down in the AM. Also, I haven't been able to do Protein shakes bc so far every one I've tried makes me so sick and shaky that I can't function.. Hoping for an answer soon because I am a teacher, and due to budget cuts they took away our personal/sick days. Days like today, I end up at home halfway thru the day, bc the nausea turns in to vomiting.. Or at least trying to vomit. Thanks!! Skitt
  2. The theatre in my home town is so old that the seats are tiny and you can't move the arm rests for more room. To get into the seats I would have to squeeze in and it was painful to squeeze past the armrests much less sit comfortably. These seats are so small that my fiancé who is not overweight is not comfortable in the chairs. We went to this theatre yesterday because we didn't have time to get to the bigger theatre before the movie started. Well, I was not only able to get into and out of the chair without rubbing against the armrests I was able to watch the movie semi-comfortably!! Granted I don't think anyone can sit in those chairs comfortably. But I actually had about an inch space on each side of me!! Happy dance!!

    Singing After Sleeved

I don't sing regularly unless u count alone in my car lol. I was able to sing a little about 2 weeks out but it hurt to take deep breaths. I also had a hiatal hernia repair during my sleeve. When I first started trying to sing my frog would come out a few times. (Frog=a weird sound that would come out randomly that sounded like a croak to me lol) I play the flute at my church every Sunday and the first time I tried to play, I had to stop mid song to catch my breath. That was at a couple days over 2 weeks. The next week I was out sick but the 4th week I could get through every song without much discomfort or shortness of breathe. I'm now 10 weeks out and play like I always have. It will take time for your body to adjust but use that breathing thing they give you at the hospital often and that will help build up your stamina again. Hope that helps.

    Nausea

I use Prevacid for the acid blocker it's over the counter. You can also get OTC Prilosec. As for pain meds I was on Tramadol for pain just after the surgery.

    Non Food Rewards

Loving your list!! Especially the dog! I guess for me it will be 50- new charm for my Persona bracelet. 75- new fish for my saltwater tank and maybe lights for it too. 100 - new wardrobe.
  6. Yeah still on Prevacid daily. I'm thinking its the full thing.. I stopped eating early tonight and it didn't do it. Will keep trying to find out
  7. Ok so I've searched the forums for this but can't find anything. I am 10 weeks post OP and EVERY time I eat my right shoulder hurts like its gas pains, but I thought gas pains could only be on the left side?? I've mentioned it to my doc and they dismissed it quickly, but I don't know what to do about it if anything can be done... Suggestions welcome.
  8. It's not constant... Just lasts about 20 min after I eat.. Always the same intensity.. Not terrible but it reminds me it's there. Not gallstones bc they removed my gallbladder when I had the surgery. Thanks for the replies tho.. Any more are appreciated
  9. I think it took me a good month to really get back in the swing of things. I didn't really start feeling like myself until the last couple of weeks, but my infection lasted for 6 weeks. I'm a teacher so I'm up and down a lot. If you have a desk job I think you'll bounce back fairly quickly. Just take it one day at a time.
  10. I had the repair with my sleeve. Surgery was 8/9 was back at work on 8/21... And even went in for a few hours before then. I was very weak but the pain was just about gone by week 2. I had trouble getting back into things but I also got a sinus infection the week I went back to work. You should be fine.. Just rest a lot and make sure to take your vitamins!! Start exercising as much as you can stand.. Walking helped me a lot even tho I didn't walk much bc of the infection.
  11. I've already had some alcohol.. Just sip and go slow. I had about half a margarita and was fine. Have fun in your trip!!

    Nausea

I had bad nausea 10 days out.. Doc gave me some Zofran and it helped some. I had the nausea for 6 weeks and its been maybe a week without it, but did feel the nausea again for the past couple days. Make sure you are taking Prilosec or Prevacid to keep stomach acid low.. When I didn't take mine the nausea was worse. Good luck and I hope you feel better!!

    Nyquil

My doc said to stay away from NyQuil. I had already had 1 dose and it burned my stomach pretty bad (just the feeling not an actual burn). The pharmacist suggested robituassin bc it's not as much alcohol and cheap so if I couldn't handle it I hadn't spent an arm and leg. It burned a little going down but was tolerable. This was 3 weeks out also. The doc said to stay away from any decongestant, but musinex w a cough suppressant worked pretty well also.
  14. Date sleeved: 8/9 Start weight: 256 Weight today: 213 What you eating and how much daily: mostly chicken.. But I do eat some carbs. Maybe around 800 cal a day Daily work out: none at the moment.. Have had a bad sinus infection that won't leave me alone. How hungery are you?: not really hungry. Head hunger at times. How you feel physically: doing alright.. Still weak from being sick How you feel emotionally: was pretty depressed for a while but it's getting much better. Are you glad you chose the sleeve?: yes I think so Anything extra to say?: don't develop a sinus infection just after surgery, especially when you are on auto immune to me capsules ..
  15. Only thing that bothers me is milk. cheese and yogurt are fine, but after a fourth of a cup of any milk I start to feel it. It really just sits funny.. Not really nauseous.. Just heavy in my stomach. The nurses told me it would get better with time. I am 9 weeks postop btw.
  16. At first I wasn't going to tell anyone but my immediate family, but decided I needed to tell those I work with for a couple reasons. 1: I work with all women. I'd rather be the one telling than to be a topic of gossip. 2: if something were to happen and I got hurt where I couldn't talk... Others that aren't in my family need to be able to say.. She just had this surgery etc. and last: who cares what others think! If they can't accept my decision to better my health with a little help then they don't deserve my friendship (which so far everyone has been positive and supportive). I know ppl talk.. But if its a secret, they sometimes tend to talk more often and negatively. Embrace this, love it before and after the surgery!
  17. I'm 2 months post op and have lost 42 lbs so far. I'm happy about that, but I look at before and after pics and think to myself, "that will never be me." My question is did you feel like this when you were first starting out and how did you get through it? Also, any advice for us newbies? Thanks!! Skittle

    Rough Day

It will get better!! I felt that way until just recently. I am just 2 months postop. I can eat a little more than I could that early out. But I still can't tell when to stop sometimes. Now my cravings and missing dr pepper.. I only hope that goes away soon! Lol

    Ladies Only!

My period this month (and last for that matter) was a week early.. Doc said it was normal to be out of sorts for a while.. Oh and this one has lasted 2 weeks now... So ready for normal cycles now
  20. I too had the unknown hiatal hernia. Absolutely no heartburn since surgery. I believe it caused a little more pain breathing and trying to go out of bed but that only lasted about a week and a couple days. Swallowing was a tad painful after surgery but tiny sips helped. It did not change my progress on eating. I was on puréed when I came home on day 3. Solids at 2 weeks, just had to be sure I chewed very well, as anyone should. I developed a sinus infection w a terrible cough at day 10 and the coughing and sneezing made things a little sore but doc reassured me that it would not affect any repairs or the sleeve. 2 months out now with no problems at all, and loving this sleeve! 6 incisions for me Starting weight: 256 Current weight: 213.6 Total loss: 42.4
  21. Gotta love a heated debate! As to the who is trolling who.. I see no trolling at all! I agree w the OP. I'm 2 months out and have been cleared for any food since week 2. Small enough bites, eat slowly... Haven't had a problem even w steak or meatballs. That being said EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. And as the OP Stated... Find what works for you...just don't cause yourself undue stress by OBSESSING. Not sure why that is such a bad thing??

    Cramps/sour Stomach

I am right at 2 months out and my tastes are starting to come back. Certain flavors of crystal light I found bland and nasty a few days post op have started tasting like they are suppose to, or more like before surgery. The cramps I had a little of and my doc prescribed Hycosamine and that helped tremendously. I'm not sure your case is like mine but maybe something to look into. Good luck!
  23. To the OP: great post! I have pretty much gotten the same info from my surgeon. Eat what you can tolerate. Since surgery, my only complication was developing a sinus infection which kept me in an ongoing battle w nausea, coughing, and sometimes not being able to keep things down. But it was not from having the sleeve, it was from keeping my stomach in stress from coughing sooo much and so hard. My doc told me when I was having trouble getting things down, that it didn't matter what it was, if I could tolerate it, drink or eat it. This kept me off of iv fluids and pic lines. After surgery I have also noticed that I do not crave all the junk foods as I did before. Seeing a picture of a McDonalds quarter pounder no longer makes me want to go buy one and swallow it in 5 minutes. Do I want one now and then? Sure, but I also know how all that grease will feel and just say no lol. My surgeon also said that when you have a craving take 2 bites. 2 bites will curb that craving while maintaining everything you have done. 2 bites is not going to hurt anyone unless it becomes 2 bites.. Then 2 more a few minutes later.. Then later... I am changing my habits. But as my surgeon said to do, I will never deprive myself of anything just because I was sleeved. Do I eat extremely slow? No. As a teacher I get maybe 20 minutes to actually eat, and 5 of that is to heat up whatever I brought. I don't have the luxury to eat that slow. HOWEVER, I also cannot eat as fast without discomfort. I listen to my body. I view the "rules" as guidelines. I can't always follow them, but I do what I can. If you feel like you have to follow the rules 100% then do it, and know that it will work for you! But for all of us who struggled to stay on a diet and were miserable with cravings while on a diet, the rules can be bent, and some can be broken. But if you break it, keep the duct tape handy invade you need it again!
