My band was a great tool to teach me to stop the abuse of food. I too was hungry, too tight, refluxed, slimmed and vomited. THAT was life with a band. I am revising to sleeve 9/6 since I've had mechanical failure again- the repaired tubing is leaking. I am converting to sleeve to maintain my weight loss-- offered by the surgeon and I feel like if I dont sleeve I will be a regain statistic. i am none too happy about self pay for mechanical failure twice. Sleeve wasnt an option at the time, its on the table currently and I'm taking it as I dont want to start over. My friends and family dont see the need for the sleeve since im "normal weight" -- healthcare in preventative terms works well. Im hoping my sleeve CAN be done same day and Im praying I have an easier go, less pain and fewer complications since my band got me ready for this next step. The band is a tool-- its not perfect-- given the choice I would opt for the sleeve the first go. I hope to never look back, have no complications, and embrase the mental and physical constant baby sitter and rule enforcer back-up of the sleeve that i had with my band--- its still about food choices and lifestyle choices- thats why its so hard.
I am thrilled most of the sleevers are happy-- seems to be a 7-14 day window to realize it gets better-- hunger is not my concern- after all i've been hungry for 6 years with my band---pain and complic's are my only worries..
Actually know people who had "ulcer surgery" in the 1950- 60's--- it was a sleeve they had--just not called that.
Good luck to all-- if your friend has a choice my recommendation is life-long, non mechanical device, one procedure----sleeve as your only WLS.

Chew it up and spit it out!! You only want the mouth feel anyway- - then it wont jeopardize your surgery. I did this post band and may have to use it post sleeve.

Im "getting sleeved" next week and thrilled to see happy converts!! I was banded 2006, 225#, Repaired broken tubing Nov 2009 165#, now the repair site is leaking Sept 2012 150# BMI 25, I am converting to maintain my loss and hopefully get to 140 goal. I was self pay for band, repair and now the sleeve. Im parying GOD will guide the surgeon and one step success. I didnt fail the band , it failed me !!! - - - mechanically!! Im thrilled to see so many have done so well. I will too I am determined NOT to gain!!

I was banded 2006, repaired a broken tubing 2009, leaking again so im converting next week- - no weight gain to convert. I am a 24-25 BMI, Im self pay so insurance is not dictating the decision. My surgeon is converting since Im a band success but I am tired of mechanical failure. I dont trust myself to maintain the lifestyle and Portion Control, I need the mental sitter of the band or sleeve. 5-7K every three years for band repair is getting old so Im converting and hoping to be done with surgery for weight loss. I want the "irreversible last surgery" and to never have to see my weight loss surgeon again. I completely get the need for emotional control and the desire for the sleeve.

If you have a supertarget - mine carries all three- - the pistaschio is good the banana is ok- -havent had the cheese cake- - I have a HUGE sweet tooth but with all the Protein being sweet I dont use those as much. Unjury protein in the allowed wet/looser cheesy grits is good!
