  1. This has nothing to do with giving up or not giving up. Your body has been through a major operation. Not to mention all the meds. Not to mention the stress on your body. Not to mention the swelling and the fact that it takes weeks for your body to heal after this surgery. Stop weighing yourself and be patient. As long as you are following your surgeons advice it is bound to come off....Put the scale away for now and bring it out in a month or so. In my case in a year or so. It is self sabotage when you weigh yourself this early and expect big things... This is not Jane lost more weight then me at a week out or Rose lost less then me. This is about your health and healing right now. Nothing more. You need to rest and move like walking but this is asking way too much right now!
  2. There are a lot of things in life that we have no choice about. It is just what it is. Health problems as we grow older are bound to happen. They are offering you a solution to your weight gain. To me there is really no difference in the surgeries. All give restriction. All help you lose weight. All are a tool. The sleeve helps more with absorption of food while it is still in the stomach. Starts the break down before it goes into the small intestine....No matter. The issue seems to be that they are afraid your weight gain will continue due to your other issues. But it is YOUR choice whether you do it or not. It is your body and the decision is yours in the long run. I know myself I was caught between a rock and a hard place regarding my health and I chose WLS as a way to help me get to where I needed to be. You have the right to decide for you what is best. Don't let them take that away from you! Keep us posted!
  3. I was the same way....thought cold would be so much better then feeling sweltering heat all the time.. Well not so..2 years out and looking for wool everything. It is so scary to see winter showing its ugly face in our country...Since hibernation is not an option. I must look like I gained 30 lbs every time I leave the warmth of my bed......With the layers of clothing.
  4. I never weighed myself before I got to goal. I saved the drum roll for the surgeons office. Now that I am at goal I weigh once a week. just to keep on target!
  5. Nope still having complications. About to have my 17th surgery in a couple of weeks.....It's okay though I am still here alive so all is good!
  6. It doesn't matter which surgery you chose. They all work because it is a restriction and tool that gives you the tools to get your mind healthier and fix the reasons for the self abuse of food addiction. I was going to have the Lap-band but decided on the sleeve. My choice but like I said they are all successful procedures that will help with the underlying problems. The rest is up to you hun.
  7. Personally. I think you are just asking for trouble. And trust me...you don't want it! If you tear even one of those stitches you are in for a heap load of pain and anguish. I think you know better but want to push the limits to see just how far you can go. Don't do that for your health and families sake. Get back on track and allow your sleeve to heal. You are addicted to food otherwise you would not be taking such chances with your life. Think about what you are willing to suffer if you keep this up. The sleeve is not a miracle it is a tool to be used to get your head together and fix how you view food and the reasons why you abuse yourself. Your being self destructive. You need to figure it out. Get some help and stop the self abuse now! okay!
  8. When I had WLS I told people I loved that it was my time no matter what to regain my health and well being. It was my time to be healthier and live better and make healthier choices and it was my time to stand alone and no longer be someone who stood out as an example of what not to do. It was about me! No one else. That is how I approached it because I thought I was going to do this alone.....I WAS SO WRONG! After all the complications and every struggle I went through they were with me helping me get better and better. They were the ones that saw it in a different light and knew that it was going to be and still is a long process to fight the addiction of food. Like any other addiction. When asked by my sister why I did this to myself I answered that I was tired of being the fat on of the family and that it was my time to be invisible in that respect.....I told her it was her time as well. To lose the 'at least I'm not as fat as her' crap comments. After talking with her gently and giving her not only the information but also expressing the emotional changes in me she is having GP on Dec. 2. That is her coming to terms with her life choices and what she wants to gain from her personal journey. If she were to look at me and all the complications I endure, a normal thinking individual would run like h*ll. But she knows she is not me. By gently mentioning the emotional changes not to mention the health changes. She may come to the same conclusion as you did. But that is about her journey. Not everyone gets there the same way. Some people on here have had WLS before it got out of hand. Thinking back I would have given my eye teeth to be that in tune with myself. But I was not..... By giving all the love you can and I see you do. Who knows....But concentrate on the positives of your journey and it may make all the difference....
  9. I started out with 5 and after I had a leak and surgery to repair the septic damage and came out of the 19 day coma I had 12. Added to that now are 3 more from drains from a second leak at 18 months. So altogether there have been 15 holes on my stomach. I look like someone took a Gatling gun and shot me in the chest. Two years out and do I care... No because I am here and have survived. Will there be more I don't know..I think there are worse things then counting incisions. yup I do believe there are.....just saying!
  10. We have to learn moderation and balance. That was the issue as to why we got as big as we did. It starts before surgery and will be a lesson to work on for the rest of our lives. We will never be perfect and complete abstinence is a recipe for a big problem. We live in the real world and must learn to eat in one as well. There is no way that anyone can stay completely on track and expect not to fall. We all fall. We just don't fail. This is not a limited time offer. This is changing how you view food and correcting your relationship with food and learning how to nutritiously maintain our bodies. Recognizing sliders and finding new and better ways to deal with them. It is all part of the new you that must come into play for you to be a successful weight loss patient who is happy and feeling well.
  11. Thank you @@CowgirlJane I am slowly working myself back up to I don't care what one person think if he can do his job and do it well. I am fighting 10 lbs. It does not want to go....I lost it when I was 2 weeks in the hospital and it came back on hard and fast....My hubby says I am nuts to worry! oops.... He's so sweet!
  12. 2006.....you are now one of my hero's..... congrats on the many years of success...I hope I will do it as well. That's the plan anyway!
  13. A goof ball..NOT! Everyone goes through this except maybe me that I have read on here. I was excited and could not wait until they wheeled me into the operating room. It was soon done and over. I think it is normal to be afraid of the 'what ifs' If you don't make an educated decision then you are not ready. I know looking back I was not. Make sure you do know the what ifs and that you can deal with the worst of them. If you can..You are ready to change your life. Your reasons are sound. And you will continue to flounder from one diet to the next for the rest of your life....that is just as hard on your body as WLS. I know after losing my weight I am a changed woman. I love doing a lot more things and being a grand mother has made my life way more active. Your doing it for your kids. Amazing love shown for them......
  14. That dessert probably helped you lose some weight. Look it is not the best choice, but you are going to stop losing if you don't up your calories. The body will protect itself and if you can... up those calories to 1000. Your body needs to eat and use calories to lose. I know it sounds strange but it is fact.... Don't be so hard on yourself. So you ate a little dessert. Don't do it a lot. Once in a while if you find you can handle it. If it becomes a problem and you crave it too much. Then you will have to find other complex carbohydrates to eat. I did not eat for almost 6 months. I had to be taught again to eat. It was not fun...I had complications and so was on a drip. Be happy that you are able to eat. But try to keep the choices as healthy as you can...okay
  15. For me I cook more. It takes time for me to plan healthy meals with a new spin on it. More legumes and fish and always trying something new. I make healthy choices most of the time now and to learn to eat more things that are high in Protein is not just about meat. There are other choices out there and I have been searching for them. Nothing with artificial sugar. Learning to cook with other sweeteners as well as different kinds of rice, Beans and yes even pastas. I use tofu which I used to think was the devil itself. And enjoy the Mexican burger. Great in chili. No for me it is more important now then ever to eat better and so I have expanded my search and cooking skills to include more fish and poultry. Fresh from the farmers mostly! Love it!
  16. I am so sorry for your situation. I am here if you need someone to talk to ..Just PM me okay!
  17. I did start a thread about my experience with plastics. he was more concerned about money then what was best for me. He also treated me in such a way that I felt like dirt. So I left there and things have been difficult since. I was approved by the way..But only for minimal care. I hardly left his office and broke down and sobbed. I have an appointment with another one in Jan. I will see where that leads me! But I have not felt good since that day.....
  18. Having the same issue @@CowgirlJane But mine started when I went headlong into a depression episode after I saw my plastic surgeon. i kinda felt like it was all for nothing....now I am over that but having trouble getting back to basics....Dang..This is for life you know. Just when you think you got it a little figured out something hits you from left field... We got this girl!
  19. I think that it is not normal to not be scared of this life changer. Going through all the what ifs and maybes and could or might is all part of it. But it can drive you bonkers to spend so much time on this aspect. It will be what it is. Prepare yourself by getting as much information as possible on the surgery of your choice. Make an educated decision and decide what you will do in the what if part. Other then that make a list of all the things you want to do and change and enjoy in the future. Once you are there it is go time. I was one of those not so normal girls who did not have any fear at all. Could not wait...But as I look back I did not have all the facts I needed. Still I look back and am very glad I did it and would not change my decision for anything... You got this!
  20. This is one of the many changes that occur when having WLS. Things we found easy to eat before no longer agree with us. I can no longer eat roast beef or any solid meats like that. Pork kills me! Fish and the brown meat of chicken and turkey are my saving grace. I was able a few weeks back to eat a piece of beef and then tried again a week or so later and threw it up. I figure 2 years out...My relationship with certain foods is over! I eat lamb and rabbit and most fish now. Maybe that is what you are dealing with as well. I eat tofu now and other Proteins instead.
  21. Learning and changing is a big part of this journey. Learning to love yourself will take real work. I think it is more then just the weight issue. I think that you do not like most things about yourself and need to look deep to see the wonderful person you are within and out. Being shy is a type of personality. It is not a bad thing. But it can hamper your successes in life. One of your goals needs to be to learn to like you now and in the future. You will struggle like we all do. But you can do this and still be the sweet girl that I just read about in your own words. It would be wonderful if you could enjoy life and not hold back but to be honest it takes all kinds of people to make this world go round and you would be someone I would seek out to be friends with because you are real! Honest and true. Don't lose that hun...... Isn't it wonderful to find out that people think nice things about us when we ourselves see us as some alien that does not belong here. You are not an alien. You are a sweet lady who should recognize your beauty as is and build on it. And as you go on this new journey learn to love you for you as well as making better health choices.....
  22. I don't use either. I call it body at rest. Because your body is taking a break to regroup after a weight loss. It will go into that state to protect itself from any harm. It is an amazing machine that will do what ever it can to see the horizon at eye level no matter what happens to our bodies. So why wouldn't it take a break from weight loss if it feels threatened. Once it knows it is okay and still working its way to health. It will stop the body at rest and continue to lose the lbs. Stall seems so final where body at rest is telling me that your body is figuring out how to fix the problem and when satisfied will go at it again...
  23. That may be the reason you are stalled. 500 calories is not enough for your body to allow you to lose. You will stall if your body is in distress. Unless you up your calories by 3 or 4 100. It will be a slow loss. I know you have issues with up chucking. That is normal as well. Try to work on Protein intake and up those calories. There are tasteless protein powders you can add to smoothies. Also try to stay away from the scale too much. That is only going to lead to self sabotage...Follow the guide lines set out for you and it will happen..okay..
  24. If I had the chance to go back and do it all again. I would have skipped all the try this try that and gone straight for the Roux en Y. Looking back it would have saved so much pain and time. However there are things you will have to watch out for with this procedure as well. But it is the best choice for you or anyone who has constant complications. It will do the job well. I think you have TO TAKE CONTROL TO GET THINGS DONE......good for you girl! Your life is going to change so much..congrats....Keep us posted hun we want to know you are doing okay!
