Saturday my hubby took me to Breakfast at a market we work at every Saturday. We are vendors there and so once a year we get a free breakfast. I ordered bacon and pancakes. He ordered a breakfast burrito. As my hubby got up to get coffee and tea out food was being set before me. the lady who delivered it said this is a lot of food for such a little thing like yourself. she then smiled and walked away. I stared in disbelief because I still see myself most times as fat. oops. when my hubby came over I told him what she said and he smiled and said you are tiny. I looked at him and then stared at the woman who had said it. Then it dawned on me that I recognized her from somewhere but could not put my finger on it....Then I broke down crying. It just happened. I remembered her. she was one of my favorite nurses who looked after me when I finally came home from the hospital. I called her over and asked if she remembered me and was she still a nurse. She said no she did not know me and yes she worked part time as a nurse. I told her who I was and of course it was not hard to place me as I was the only patient who had a category 5 bed sore. She stood there and clasp her hand over her mouth and said OMG I would have never known it was you. I told her how much I liked her and how much I appreciated her honesty with my health and that she meant a lot to me. She came over and hugged me hard and thanked me for the compliment. I turned to my hubby and repeated what she said and she said yup. It's true I did say that. We laughed and she asked me to remind her husband that she was a gem....We laughed and she went back to work serving. After breakfast I got up to get my coat on and a lady behind me asked me how I was doing. I said fine. Do we know each other? She said you don't know me then? I said no. She said I worked at the drug store but no longer do. I have been wondering how you are doing. You were so sick. We thought you were not going to make it. I said me either and I laughed. She told me I looked amazing and so healthy and she was so pleased to see that. I thanked her for remembering me and for the kind words. My day was wonderful yesterday. All this hard work and trouble has been so worth it. I face surgery ( repair work on my butt from the bed sore ) on Thursday and no longer feel bad or fearful. I am going forward not backward and these people helped me see that.... Sorry for being long winded but it was an amazing feeling for people to say such lovely things.....

LapBand Forum going away?
I don't understand. To me there is positive in all surgeries that have the results of weight loss. And a building of a new relationship with food. All information is critical to the success of anyone who undergoes this life saving process. I know that thirty years ago it was stapling the stomach that was used to help with weight loss and a lot of professionals felt it was barbaric. But many lives were lived longer because of it. I know of a woman who's aunt had it done and to this day she has kept her weight off. And became healthier because of it. It is what it is and just as they have made strides in other surgeries and cures for different diseases it does not diminish the one who came before them and benefited from the former treatments. My surgery is a compromise between the sleeve and by pass. What would I have done if it had only been the sleeve and nothing more. I would be dead now. I hope that they do come up with easier ways of helping the obese of this world without taking such drastic measures as they have in the past and even now with these new surgeries. But and this is the point I want to make. People who are successful with any one of these surgeries have a lot of information and experience to share with those who are learning, having or living with these procedures. Those who have had Lap Band have a lot to offer to help everyone who has had any type of WLS because there is more to it then just the surgery. There is the mental, emotional and physical changes and demons to deal with. We need the help of those that came before us. So please keep up your posts and help those who need you in other areas besides actual surgery choices. It is all in the name of good health and well being. So many have left this forum for different reasons. We need all of you Lap Banders and Sleevers and By Passers and Yes even the Roux En Y like me who offer assistance to others. You are important here and I respect you so much for your success. Jane

Hormonal acne
Your funny! Humor is good . I broke out for a while as well. But I do not have the condition you have. So it could be that a visit to the dermatologist is the thing. But you are still a very funny lady!

Hormonal acne
I know that within each layer of fat there is toxins held from the time the weight started to go on. And as each layer is released by dropping weight the toxins come out of our bodies in our pores and other ways..... Bowels and urine as well.

Depression
It is a rough go to get to the point that you need meds. But I give you thumbs up for recognizing your need to get help. When i was in the hospital for 5.5 months they decided to take me off my depression meds and 2.5 months into my stay I started to slip into the dark black hole once more and began to shut down. It was my families insistence that made them put me back on them and I started to once again build the strength it took to get through that ordeal. Having WLS is not a one dimensional thing it covers all facets of our lives and the things we truly feel about ourselves esp. when we have chosen WLS to help deal with all the issues we feel about ourselves and the fears and anxiety of what may or may not happen to us... We know why we feel the way we do it is just that we are unable to reach deep to figure out the triggers that bring on the episodes. For some of us it is temporary until we come to grips with whatever brought it on and others are chronic like me. I will never get better. The surgery made no difference as far as my depression went. Take time to figure out why you are feeling the way you do and when the panic starts pause and think what am I thinking about or what has happened to make me panic in this way. Sometimes it is easier to get up and do something to get your thinking in another direction. I am so hoping for you it is a temporary condition. Hope this helps even a little.

Just got the call from the hospital!
I will take what you said and apply it to this situation. you are right. I had so much stuff for her to fill out that I know she was getting frustrated. she said so. I can't help what has transpired in the last two years but she was concerned with getting all the information down and so her tone was as if I was keeping secrets. But I think she in reality was upset that these things were not on my chart as you say.....I think today I have a better feeling about it and thanks to you a better understanding. So far here I have been really treated like a freak and they the doctors and even my own doctor has told me not to tell anyone what I did. It has all been too much. I have a friend of my daughters who has run interference for me a few times and brought Doctors in special for me. There have been 2 so far that treated me well. Most have given me their opinions on WLS quite quickly and have wasted no time telling me that it was not the thing to do..... So it can get frustrating when one more person has a type of communication that is abrupt and sharp. I will look at her as if she had 30 people to get the information from and give her slack. You could be right and I appreciate your spin on these situations for me. It really does help me to look at it differently....Thank you so much @@MichiganChic

I baked
Sounds like something my skinny hubby would like. Can you PM me the recipe. Thank you... sounds like your being very successful because you could have a piece if you wanted to. Even that crust, but you chose well this time. Each little success leads to us retraining our brains in regards to whether we are hungry or just want it for the wrong reasons.. If I have a treat it is just because I want a treat not because I need it..... Great isn't it how we change!!!!

I baked
Sounds to me like you are slaying the dragon. Good for you kid! And your right it has always been my thing I'm on vacation attitude....I don't use that anymore either..... I am proud of the changes I have made and hope for more as I travel this road.... Try Pinterest and put in Bariatic recipes and then Hot drinks. You may find something there. I drink a sugar free hot chocolate now and then it helps!

Struggling with fears... normal?
Science is always making new headway in the medical field. But do we look for the possible future if's or if not's they come up with something better or do we grab a hold of the surgery that has come a long way now and do what we can to become healthier so that we can do the things we need and want to do. Right now there are three options but the first option of stomach stapling still worked. There are thousands of people around today that had it done and are still living the weight loss journey. If I had the choices I had now back when I was in my late 20's early 30's I would have taken it. Weight problems for me only made my life more difficult. And as the weight piled on from failed diets my health got worse. What if's can paralyze a person. You have to be sure you are ready and being informed is the best way. What you are feeling is indeed normal. If you were not feeling that way I would be sure you were not entirely ready for this kind of commitment.

I baked
Last night I baked a beautiful banana cake and covered it with butter frosting. then I made Cookies. They are called boy scout cookies. They have cranberries and chocolate chips in them.... I have walked past both at least 20 times today and have not even looked at them until this last time when I got some Water to drink.... I am wondering if I am finally getting a little farther in my journey. Am I learning new eating habits after all. And how much of these baked goods are going to hit the trash can in a week....hmmmmmmmmmmm This is so cool! How are you doing with your relationship with food?

Haven't started surgery process yet. What can I do in the mean time?
Start looking up recipes for post surgery. Reinvent the wheel by trying new foods you have never tried before. Keep on researching and read and look up as much as you can not only about the good things but also the possible bad things that can happen so that you are completely informed before you decide. Find a support system and use it to the max. Like people who are striving for the same goals. Start looking at yourself positively by making one kind expression about yourself every day. Start a journal of your thoughts and fears and share them on here if you wish and some of us can help I am sure of that. Know that not every day is going to be happy while you are preparing. This is an up and down adventure which is yours.... Don't compare yourself to others now or ever. This is all about you...... I hope the best in your process!

Just got the call from the hospital!
As always the pre contact with the hospital just happened where they take down allergies and meds and the whole nine yards about you before you have your surgery. She implied that my Bariatric surgery had nothing to do with this surgery. I told her she was mistaken. That is when she started to ask questions. Out of the blue she asked if it was all worth it and I said YES. She said then we don't have to talk about it do we. I said I guess not but this surgery is because of the surgery in 2012. Oh she said. I thought you said it was worth it. It was I said but it was not something I planned is it to have s**t left in my a**. she said oh well lets get on with the questions. I said sure..... But my stomach flipped because it is just one more person in the medical field that is not interested in hearing about WLS. It is like doors slam in my face all the time. When we were about to end the conversation she asked how much weight I lost. I told her and she said well at least your knees will be happy. I said what does that even mean. She did not answer..... I really don't like dealing with the medical field in my area since I had my WLS. It is like I am a fly buzzing around their heads and they just want to swat me away. I am unnerved about this call.

The most positive post on this site
I agree with @@☠carolinagirl☠ there are too many people to mention. As everyone has affected my trek through this new wilderness of WLS. Even those that have told me straight or been unhappy with how I respond to them have made a change in my life for the good. I could not have made it this far without all of you. Those who are new and those who have come and gone. My hat tips to all that are on this journey with me....I am not alone and you have helped me realize that... Thank you all!

dumping syndrome
I get the dumping syndrome when I am really hungry and I foolishly eat to fast. I also get it if I eat certain foods like ice cream...So I don't. Sometimes I get it and don't even know why. But I know my body is telling me something and that is that I can no longer tolerate that food. But I also have the Roux en Y so it is a combo of BP A VSG. I always drink a weak cup of tea after and it seems to help settle things down. Happens maybe once or twice a month for me. But it is true it is less likely with the VSG.

Video – A tribute to Dr. Edward Mason, the father of bariatric surgery
I had no idea who pioneered this life saving surgery. Thank you Dr. Mason. And thank you Alex. For giving us a chance to meet him. I wonder how many of us would not be here with out his vision?

Unprepared for this complication
Hi Tammy. I am so glad they found the leak and have fixed it with the Roux en Y. Now it will take time to heal and then you most likely will be on your way to good health and well being. Attitude is 50 % of the healing process. So please keep a positive attitude as you go through recovery. I know the drill all to well myself and know that it can be so disheartening when you know others have gone through WLS with little or no complications. I believe it makes us appreciate our journey in a way that some can never understand and it makes us stronger people when it does not come easy.... Please take the time you need to heal Tammy. Your body has been through a lot. Go easy on your new Roux en Y. I am so happy that you are getting better. It makes me cry when others suffer severe complications when the decision was made to better your life. You got this Tammy. You are very strong! Jane
