    Questions questions !

The meal was one lean beef patty, 1/4 cup greens and 1/2 baked potato no toppings. I eat the beef and greens. I took a few bites of potato and knew I should quit but thought I need these calories, I lost dinner.

    Questions questions !

One thing I noticed was how much less I need to feed everyone now. It was a reality check to how much I was really eating. This life to a healthier way has been a journey. We no longer fry or bread meats and veggies. Process foods are alot less. Sodas are out long ago. The trick is to do things gradually. I never make anyone feel like they have to but both my children and my husband have slimmed down not even knowing they were making an effort. They were never big but better eating couple with a busy schedule full of fun activities has made them very healthy!
  4. Dee dee We are all learning. Our doctors all have different opinions. This is a learning adventure. It was suggested I up my calories and my surgeon told me my carbs was to low at 20-30 carbs per day. He said my body needed more carbs than that to be healthy. Not to sound like I know it all, this evening as I ate supper I knew I was behind in calories today. I felt the chest pain and I took a bite felt it again and took another the I thought I need theses calories I am going take another bite. We can now mark most of supper off my intake. I had a lean beef patty, 1/4 cup greens and 1/2 small potato baked no toppings. I eat the Protein and greens but that potato should have stayed on the plate. I tell you all that because we are learning to try and balance what the doctor says we should do verse what our bodies tell us we should do. It is an unperfect journey. Tomorrow we fight again!
  5. I had been in a stall, my surgeon said my body was at a set point and was holding on to everything it could get. He said I was way to low in carbs and fat. My carbs were 20 to 30 and my fat was low as I was eating mostly lean meat. Can't remember fat number off the top sorry. Any way he suggested I up my calories from around 600 -700 to 1000. Some one on here suggested I eat every three hours to help boost the metabolism. I took all of this under council and the scale did move down Yay! Today was a busy day and I got a bit behind in calories. I tried to eat a beef patty, 1/4 cup greens and 1/2 small baked potato. I ignore the first chest pain and the second one I thought I am behind just one more bite and I will stop. Bad idea we can now remove most of supper from my intake. Oh how bad it hurt! Vomiting was actually a relief. Every thing is such a balance. Next time I will just end the day short of calories.

Am I ever going to be normal?

My surgeon said the body has a set point where it feels it needs to hold on to everything at that point. He said increasing calories may signal the body it is not starving and does not need to hold every calorie. Get 1000 calories means more healthier foods not junk. When he reviewed my food journal he told me the fats and carbs are not suppose to be extremely low just low. I was keeping my carbs 20 to 30 a day. I was mostly eating only lean protein. I have been trying to eat a more balanced plate including healthy starches. When he said "healthy starches" I was like what? I was a diabetic for years so I am use to all starches are bad Lol! The thing abut the eating plan for each of us is so different. Maybe you guys are losing at 600-700 calories but I wasn't and when I work hard at get 1000 healthy calories in I started losing.

Am I ever going to be normal?

I am surprise how small y'all eat. I was doing around 600-700 and my surgeon said to up it to about 1000 when I hit a two week stalk. I eat every three hours. I focus on protein and fluids when not eating. I am eating 1/2 cup to a cup at one time. I don't feel so obviously different when eating but maybe to others I am.

    hello,

You have the right idea! Switching to decaf and halting bad foods. Are you a soda drinker? If so the sooner yu quit the better. I had to break the habbitts of drinking with a straw. I think your Protein shake idea is a good one. It makes the whole think mentally easier to practice the new lifestyle preop. Do you exercise? Starting now can help your body recover faster. Do you drink 64 oz of Fluid now, that was one I had to work on. I don't think I had ever drank that much daily. Discuss with your doctor the possibility of scar tissue if you have had other surgeries in this area. Also ask him or her about complications they have experienced in their patients. Do not think I do not want a doctor who has had complications because if you do develope a leak you really do not want to be the first your doctor has ever treated. In the same thought a doctor with a high rate of complications could be a sloppy surgeon.

    3 weeks post-op

I get back into full swing next week. Work for me consist of helping my husband with his little Debbie distribution route and then volunteering to teach at three after school bible clubs, one Wednesday night children's program and a Sunday Children Church worker. Between the route and chasing down kids I get lots of walking. I need to get back to the gym where I swam, walked and lifted weights I have not been since September. I do keep myself busy at home with the same household things as you. I even cleaned out the attic with my hubby's help in the lifting. That sore muscle pain happen to me at around the same time as you. Thank God it does not last long. I think when our calories get so low our bodies cling to all they get. Try a few days eating more if it does not work you can change back.

    ADDICTED TO DIET COKE

I have a dear friend who was diagnosed with melanoma stage 4. We all use to tease him because he always and I mean always had a diet coke near by. I read diet coke increases the chance of this cancer 425%. I don't trust all statistics blindly but it sure makes me think when I saw my poor friend suffering so.

Congrats to all those loosing! For those on the stall try eating every three hours! It worked for me. I was stall for two weeks. I was only getting 700 to 800 calories. I pushed it up to about 1000 eating every three hours. Made sure I got protein and fluids. I was so glad to see the scale move again.

    hello,

Annabelle I too had a wait for my surgery. I started in Feb of 2012 and was sleeved Dec 5th 2012. I am really happy that I followed my NUT suggestion and stopped caffeine, carbonated soda, and empty calories back in early Feb. I read post of those who only stopped those foods when they reached the preop diet and they are miserable fighting craving while trying to adjust the sleeve. I am only unhappy that I got so caught up in "let's hurry up and make this happen" I failed to look at the risk objectively. The surgeon's office is selling a product so they gloss over everything unpleasant. Those here on the form do not, so read about complications and find out the truth of what could go wrong. I got a pierced bowel because my surgeon made a mistake cutting scar tissue. It made for a week hospital stay but worst my family feared they were loosing me during the hours/days it took to get things under control. Read about leaks. Yes they are all rare but I a proof as are many others on here rare happened to real people. With that being said I am a type 2 diabetic, and have hypertension. All meds were gone days after surgery.

    ADDICTED TO DIET COKE

I gave up carbonated soda and caffeine at the beginning of my six month preop supervised diet. I am so glad I listen to my NUT and did that, I am now one month and two days post op. I have no desire for soda or caffeine. My whole family drinks decafe ice tea and the kids rarely have soda. I never forbid them but they just sort of drink what is available. My husband stop soda too so that meant less soda in the house unless the children requested it. So they became more accustom to low sugar juice, v8 splash, decaf tea, SF kool aid and crystal light. Now there sits under my sink several sodas that where left over from a training class we organized in November. The kids know it is there but their taste buds and habbitts have changed for the better. BTW I enjoy decafe coffee as well. My NUT said decafe was only neccasary before, during and for a short time after surgery but never any carbonation again. I say we have gotten so use to decaf why change back!
  16. Today I fixed my family the traditional southern New Years Day meal! Hog jowls, black-eyed peas, greens, and corn bread. I am still on purée so I may blenderize a bit of black eyed peas and collard greens but I am not about to blend up those nasty jowls yuck! Tomorrow I start with the regular stuff chewed well. Man it has been 7 weeks of no normal food. 5 weeks liquid ( one extra due to surgery being a week later than expected) 2 puréed. To be honest there is not any one food I can't wait to eat. I am just glad to give the blender a rest. I wanted to eat 3 meals at roughly 20 grams of Protein a day, however I can't eat the volume even in purée that it takes to reach 20 grams each meal. So I guess I will try to get 15 grams per meal and 2 Snacks with about 8 grams. That sure is going to cut on to Fluid time that will be 5 hours I can't drink. Share with me your eating schedules. I find it hard to believe I am going to eat five times a day I don't really want three.

    3 weeks post-op

Hi everyone, I wanted to report back the scale is moving again. I started trying to get at least 1000 calories and eatting every three hours. I make sure I get my Protein but be sure it is not just protein. I am on to regular foods so I am trying to work the fruit and veggie back in. I am also drinking my 64 oz of Fluid. I was in a stall for a solid two weeks at 260/261 and today I wake at 258.6. I don't know what part of that made the stall end or if it just did so in spite of what I did but YAY the scale moved! I just want to share hope it works for you guys!

    Sleeve Date Dec 5Th

Curious how much weight every one has lost this month? I lost 17 lbs. I had lost 20 but 3 lbs came back the beginning of week three and now I am stuck at the same weight week 3 and 4. I started yesterday trying to eat every three hours to get more in and to keep my metabolism up. Focusing on the Protein and fluids. I did see the scal move from 261 to 260.4 so maybe that is going to help me get going again.

How do I tell him or should I bother?

I would tell him. The more he becomes a part of your life the more he is going to discover. It is unfair for him to be caught off guard and have a reaction he would regret.
  20. Congrats at you lost! You to honeybee! Both of you are doing great. I hope at six months I can feel as happy. 3 week stall hanging on for two weeks now.
