Need to get back on track!

Thank you Pookey for posting this and to all the others that posted after you. This topic is so crucial to our success. We will all slip, some more than others, but it will happen because we are human. I am 4 months postop. For me, I've been really concentrating more on eating healthy, working on my lazy eating habits, and trying to develop a better overall healthier life. That is more important to me than losing weight quickly. So with that in mind, my question to all of you: has your post-sleeve way of living been relatively easy to slip back into once you were ready to admit that you'd gone off the path? We've all done a lot of work post-op to develop new habits. Do you think that has helped you come back to the healthier lifestyle? Thank you!!! And lots of luck to all of you.
  2. Let's post them here. Doesn't have to be WLS related, just something that is a goal. And in....shall we say by Valentine's Day....we see how we've done so far? My resolution is to get into exercise full swing. Go to the gym 4x a week. Judy

That is SO awesome! What a fun feeling.

    Vitamix

The fancy one is almost $500 at costco. It is REALLY worth that much? And if so, please tell me why. What can it do that a good Oster blender or food processor can't do? And if it is worth it, how had it helped postop. Thanks!!

    Pain...

It sounds to me that you need to get your surgeon involved & have some narcotics prescribed. Something stronger for you. Enough is enough of this pain you are going through! Hugs!
  6. Sannah, I really hope you get lots of inspiration!! Hugs to you.

    NEW YEAR's Resolutions!

Thanks!! I don't always do NY's resolutions, but this feels right. Remember, 2/14/2013 is only a check in date (although we can update at any time!) So after that date passes we will pick another one. This isn't really a challenge, it's more like a goal to incorporate something healthy into a lifelong habit. We WILL be successful in our goals even if it takes all year. :-) Good luck everyone!

    Pain...

Wow. That's the first time I've heard that before. I hope you feel better soon. Try really hard not to use your stomach muscles for a few days. Sleep on a recliner or w lots of pillows. If you are laying down, to get up have someone help you from behind. The less 'sit up' type of strain you put on your tummy, the better you should feel. And try not to bend to pick things up either. Good luck!

    Tamale Yay or Nay?

I'm 4 months out and a few weeks ago had 1/4 of one. It sat in my sleeve like a lead balloon. It was very uncomfortable.

8 weeks out and feeling doubt...

SERIOUSLY?? Omg! What a jerk. You are losing weight at a perfect pace. I am continually stunned at how awful and unprofessional doctors are these days. What on earth is going on that they treat patients w such disrespect? I am sorry that happened to you. Hugs!

    Pain...

I'm so glad you are heading to the ER. While it certainly could be that you pulled an internal stitch, you absolutely must be looked at by a professional. Please let us know what's going on when you are able. Hugs!!

    pain under right rib

I bet you pulled something. It could be referred pain from an internal stitch somewhere else. 12/10 isn't that long ago. It can take several months for all the various twinges to totally disappear. Just take it easy for the next few days.
  14. Oh lissa!! That's so not good!!! You are such a motivation to many people here, me included. I am so sorry this happened to you. When i had my GB out 6 weeks after my WLS, I had a terrible reaction to the anesthesia. Ya know, either people are reporting it more or it's happening more often. It's not uncommon to have a reaction anymore, and that's kinda scary. Have they given you any indication of what to do for a weak heart muscle? Exercise more? Less? I am so glad you are ok. PLEASE let us know on here when you go back in for your GB removal. We are powerful in numbers and we will send prayers, positive thinking, good wishes and all that good stuff for a successful surgery.
  15. I burp or hiccup or burp. I really like what another member on here (twoley?) suggested. Divide what you measured out to eat in half. Put only half of the food on a plate. Eat. Pause for about 10 minutes. If still hungry, then go back for the rest. That avoids overeating. If you put it all on your plate, the tendency is to eat it all.

    Vitamix

Awesome!! I'd say that everything is bigger in Texas, but they sell Vitamixs elsewhere too... Don't make yourself sick!!

You can gain weight after VSG.

This is an excellent post, BTB. I just want to a comment, which will probably be controversial..... But this is why I think (my opinion, no need for anyone to flame me) is why people with low BMI's shouldn't get this surgery as a 'preventive measure.' It just doesn't work long enough to be used as a preventive measure. It' s a tool to temp restrict intake so you can learn how to eat while losing weight. The losing weight is the reinforcement needed to keep people on track. If you don't get that reinforcement because you don't have much weight to lose, then why have the operation in the first place? It's not going to keep you from overeating 5 years from now.

    May to December Transformation!

    You look stunning!!!!
  19. Whoa!! You look awesome! A whole new guy! Definitely motivation material here! Good for you. :-)
  20. Deedee- that's good news. So it was a combo water retention & the 'dreaded 3 week stall.' I hope that things have gotten better or will get better soon. Hang in there!

33 BMI and scheduled for VG...

While I wholeheartedly agree that everyone should be able to have this surgery for whatever reason, my concern/question is the future. We've heard over and over again that a few years out if people haven't relearned how to eat and live a healthier life, then the weight comes back. We've read on here that the sleeve is a tool to teach us how to eat, but that it's restriction and feedback isn't permanent. So if you start with a low BMI and don't have much too lose, will this surgery still help them in the long run? Honestly, I hope it does. If I had been told in my 20's that this surgery could prevent 30 years of yo-yo dieting and unhealthy living, then yes, I'd get the surgery even w a low BMI. But from the research I've done and stories that I've read on here, that's just not the case. But, I am not judging anyone. Please know that. I am just suggesting a different viewpoint.
