  1. Yesterday was my 6 month surgi-versary and I'm down 76 lbs. I'm 8lbs from my surgeon goal and about 30 from my personal goal which is just into normal bmi range-- for 1st time since I was 3 months old! (not exaggerating) I don't post a lot but do check in frequently. So many of your posts are so inspiring and really keep me going and focused. I just wanted to drop a note to thank you all for going through this with me. Really couldn't have gotten this far without you! I haven't gotten a good "after" picture lately but I'm going on a cruise next week (after a few no-vacation years because the thought of a beach or shorts in public didn't sit well with me) and will be sure to post a good one when I return. Thanks again!

Little late -- but thank you all!

I live in Boston so all winter I felt like I was in Alaska! Warmer location for me --Disney cruise to the Bahamas with the kids. Enjoy Alaska!

    Newbie from Boston MA

I had it at Faulkner with dr Chung 10/23. Planned on the brigham with shikora (had my kids there and he did my husband's band) but Chung did the seminar and I really liked her. She does most of non-complex ones at the Faulkner. I had never been there before but I liked it. Easier parking than the brigham for sure! Plus no traffic issues during red sox season! Good luck on your journey. Whichever hospital you choose you're in great hands!
  4. I was at a birthday party this weekend for my nephew. It was at one of those inflatable house places. I've been there tons of times with the kids. This time I'm 5 months out and 73 lbs gone. There's a huge slide my 5 year olds love to do. They were climbing up the inflatable stairs to get to the top and I decided to surprise them by following. They turned around and the look of pure joy and ear to ear grins on their faces was priceless. One of them said "oh wow my moms coming up with us!!" I'm not an emotional person at all, but it really hit me that this tool has given my kids a mother that can really interact with them more than before. So glad I did this. 30 lbs to get to my personal goal, but already such a huge difference in the quality of my life! Thanks for letting me get that out. Not a lot of people outside this group would understand!

    No More Advil.....EVER!

Surgeon gave the ok for NSAIDs at 3 month visit. Didn't specify an amount but had no specific issue so didn't ask. Now I seem to have done something to my shoulder. Saw pcp and recommended 800 mg ibuprofin 3 times a day. But also told me to increase my Prilosec from once a day to twice a day. So far so good on day 3 of it.
  6. Hi, wanted to see if any of you had similar issues. My husband had the band put in almost 2 years ago. No issues. No great weight loss but he was a pretty low bmi to start. Not unhappy with it, but hindsight (and me being sleeved with no issues) makes him think he should have probably gone with sleeve. 3 weeks ago he was at work and got a really sudden and intense nausea. Within a matter of a few minutes, passed out. They took him to the er and all was ok with his heart and labs so they chalked it up to a fluke and sent him home. Was doing ok, then Monday the nausea came back same as the previous time. I picked him up from work and he passed out in the car on the way home. Went to the er and they admitted for 2 days and said heart looked fine. Not sure why it happened. Might just be a hunch, but I feel it might be band related. They dismissed it in the hospital but I insisted they call his surgeon (at another hospital). He ordered an upper gi and according to them, band placement was fine. They sent home today and we're seeing the surgeon tomorrow. Just wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone had anything similar. Sorry for the long post!
  7. I am officially in ONE-DERLAND!! Can't believe it. 3 1/2 months since starting 2 week preop. I always thought I would be the one this didn't work for. It better not stop now
  8. Not those ones --yet-- I'm thinking I got collar bone implants at some point. I didn't know I had them! Sleeves 10-23 down 49lbs since preop!

NEVER eating a french fry again!

Feel your pain. 3 bites of Chinese food (chicken nonetheless!!) new years eve and I wanted to die! Crazy! Live and learn I guess. Small price to pay for a healthier life!

Did you have a patch behind your ear for nausea? That was what caused my pupils to dilate for a few days and had no near vision.
  11. I'm 5'5 and surgeon goal is 170. I got to 170 once as an adult for about a year and was in size 12. Other than that I think I hit 170 by 7th grade :-) I'm aiming for 150 ish. Started 253 sleeved 10/23, at 205 today. Would also love to see single digit sizes!

    Dilated eyes after surgery

Freaked me out. Couldn't read or even see my phone. I believe it was a patch they put behind my ear to help with nausea post op (didn't help either!!) took a good 3-4 days to see up close again.
  13. I hear ya! The study was finished while I was on like day 4 of 2 week liquid preop. When they called with the results all I could think was am I having a steak or a shake for dinner! Hang in there and good luck! The doc did tell me that the bypass (not sure how or why)would cure it if I had a problem. I was just so set on the sleeve I figured it was worth the risk.
  14. When I had my preop upper gi, they found slow emptying. Surprise to me since I had no symptoms like food getting stuck or anything like that. They did a study where they put a tube down my nose into my esophagus and stomach to check the muscle tone etc. I guess anything 60% or greater is within normal limits. I was right at 60. Doc preferred bypass over sleeve for this reason as well as some reflux (which was also found in this study despite very little symptoms). I was still ok for sleeve knowing there was a 50/50shot of needing a revision to bypass if things got worse. 8 weeks out now and knock on wood --no issues.

    Help! This Is Not Working.

I hear ya! So frustrating. 4 weeks out and down 25 but 13 preop. Scale just bouncing back and forth the same 2 lbs all week. I agree the frustration is not so much the weight not coming off immediatley, but why.
  17. I went back to work at day 7. Thought I was feeling pretty good. The following week a coworker came up to me and said thank god you have some color back, you were looking pretty grey last week! Still felt good though!
  18. Incredible! Congratulations!

28 And Mom To 17 Month Old

Had the exact same fears. I have a 19 month old and 4 year old twins. I figured it was time to roll the dice. I thought the 1-3% risk of something happening was better odds than the 100% risk of leaving them early due to my weight. I was sleeved 10/23 and honestly the only issue I have is the lifting. The pain was pretty non-existent for me which in a way was bad because i forget and still lift the baby. It's really impossible not to (in and out of the car seat etc). So far no issues but holding my breath I don't pop a hernia. Good luck!

    October Sleevers-How Ya Doin?

Oct 23rd here too! Feel really good. Started soft foods today. Can't believe how little I can eat. Made some turkey chili and could do less than a 1/4 cup. Baked ricotta (which I've been waiting to try since I was preop!!!) delicious but 5 bites and done. Down 20.5 total but 13 of that preop. Still working on getting my water in.
  21. I was the 23rd. I agree it's amazing how much energy I have only on the shakes. I used to be exhausted driving home from work and now wide awake. No afternoon crash. I'm thinking all the carbs from before must have really affected me. Hope it lasts!
  22. congrats!! Good luck keep us posted. you'll do great!
