  1. There are many schools of thought on this subject...here is mine... it has ZERO benefit to me... carbonated beverages should not be counted towards your liquid intake either...so, truly ZERO... that said, I choose not to have it. I haven't had a carbonated beverage in over 2 years, and do not miss it... like anything else that you purge from your system, once you are "cleansed" from it, you don't miss it... I know (I believe) that if I have a Diet Coke, etc., that it is just a matter of time before I start back on my DC habit...and I'd just rather not. Good luck...it's truly WORTH IT!

Bowls of Candy Are Appearing Everywhere!

It's not appetizing to me at all anymore...I don't crave it, I don't want it ... looking at LARGE quantities of sugary substances make me sick to my stomach!!! So, I'm "good" For Halloween, I bought McDonald treat coupons for the kiddies... a win/win all around, IMO

    Clear Liquid Pre op Diet

@@Elode, I use those broths with chicken in the slower cooker...YUM, they add a LOT of flavor! I am surprised you can't have Protein...that's rather unusual... but you will get thru this, I'm sure Good luck

Anyone take methadone for chronic pain

I haven't gotten that, yet...but they have tried ALL kinds of stuff for my RA pain...nothing helped. Lyric was helping a bit, but then my insurance changed up and it was WAY too expensive for my budget, and didn't help enough to make it worth that kind of money to me. Sometimes your body has to get used to a new med...sometimes it's just not meant to be...speak to your doctor about your concerns

Deppressed w/ no idea what to do

Don't panic...follow the guidelines...eat slowly; you'll be fine. Juicing is not good for us...all that carb/sugar content and little Protein... if you throw some protein in it, then, maybe, not so bad try smaller "meals" at intervals of like 2 hours apart and see if that helps... when I was grazing, I found that if I set up a mini meal at an interval of 2 hours, I knew I had that to look forward to, and didn't eat (much else) Ask your questions, this forum is great for responses!

post op time off from work

I HATE my job, so I was off for 5 weeks, but I did have a little complication with dehydration ... fortunately we all caught it in time, and a fill up later-good to go Most people have a problem with the anethesia more than anything else...so once that's out of your system, you will do better. Just no LIFTING! What most of us forget, is even tho there are just a few small scars on the outside; on the inside we look like Frankensteins monster...so we have to wait for all that to heal up before we feel good all over! Good luck!

What to do what to do ?

I take it you don't have insurance, or it doesn't cover the surgery... Anyway...this is NOT the easy way out... you still have to follow a dietary program and exercise...the surgery is a tool that helps you lose and keep off the weight, but you can fail after the surgery if you don't follow the guidelines. Don't let anyone tell you that... you have to do what you feel is right for YOU... if your health is at risk, this is something your should explore!!! Good luck!

What Every Weight Loss Surgery Candidate Should Know

Wow, that's a shame! I LOVE my post-bariatric meetings, Anisa follows Colleen Cooks Bariatric Guidelines ... she may be the facilitator, but each week one of us is in "charge" of the topic! We have great interaction with the "vets" and the "newbies", I think. As far as your questions go, I think, for the most part, the doctor (Whipple) was informative and helpful before/during/after. I have a supportive group around me as well, my sister, and a few friends have had the surgery, so I was able to talk with them about the questions I had. As someone stated earlier, these days (especially with the Internet availability) the information is at your fingertips... you can find out and learn as much as you wish to about any subject!

Deppressed w/ no idea what to do

With doing the boot camp exercising, your body is changing; and a weight gain is not uncommon as you are building muscle, not fat. That being said, STOP the alcohol as much as possible; all empty calories!!! Have Water with some fruit in it (or bring one of those flavor dispenser/packets with you)...be the designated driver... that stuff is not doing you ANY favors... Next find out if there is a bariatric center near you and if they have meetings, a lot of centers have to have a monthly meeting for post-bariatric members to keep their certification. It has been proven that if you attend these meetings you are more likely to succeed in your endeavor! Helpful hints are always given at these, including easy recipes! try "The World According to Eggface" for recipes, she's got some great stuff... your weight loss is nothing to sneeze at...it's great! when was the last time you lost that much weight in that amount of time?!?! If you are like the rest of us, the answer is "never"! Don't discount yourself...you can't compare yourself to others! And lastly, remember, Protein FIRST! Good luck, you've got this!

    Zombies in my stomach

Maybe a bit more protein... and sit in the back! LOL
  15. Hello Everyone To avoid the candy issue of Halloween, I buy McDonalds Treat Coupons... 1 pack of coupons is $1 for 12 coupons for things like a hamburger or apple slices, etc. So it's less than those mini candy bars that average 10 cents each! Mom's don't have to worry about what you are giving the child ... and you don't have to have the temptation in your home!!! It's a win/win! I have been doing this for years, I tell the kids they are McDonalds coupons, and they look at you funny when you put a piece of paper in their bag... but it's found when they get home and it's all GOOD! Just putting in my little "trick" for "treats"
  16. @Elode , a NUT is the nutritionalist... I also was a HUGE Diet Coke drinker...BIG TIME!!! Haven't touched it since 2 weeks before surgery, and don't plan on it...no need to... I have decaf iced tea or some of those drink flavorings or Water, and all is good... it's up to you, but like many, I'm following the advise of my surgereon and not tempting fate. Like I said, to me, it's not worth it!

How Not To Be Tricked by Halloween Treats

I have been buying McDonald Treat Coupons, you get 12 for $1.00 and they are good for a hamburger, milk, apple slices, and something else (can't remember now)...so IF I have any coupons left, I don't have to worry about it... I give them out at work for my co-workers kids, or send to my nieces and nephews...a no hassle treat... Mom doesn't have to worry about the "candy factor" or choking etc... I LOVE giving out the coupons (tho kids may not understand it until they get home!)

    Yoga---It's for US!

http://health.usnews.com/health-news/health-wellness/articles/2013/04/10/yoga-for-people-who-are-overweight-or-obese I have been contemplating yoga classes for some time...have to get my "rear in gear" and find one here...but I read this article and got inspired again to find someplace, or, at the very least, use YouTube or buy some dvds! I have heard wonderful things abour yoga for the joints (I have RA) and other ailments can be helped with yoga training... I know my "inner core" can use some work, for sure! I live in Savannah, so if someone can recommend a place they have heard of, that would be awesome, but I'd like to get your thoughts... have you tried it? do you like it" what do you feel are the benefits to YOU? Thanks BGP...
  19. That is an excellent idea...I haven't been to an OA meeting in...well...decades...but that seems like a good plan... I wouldn't think WLS and OA have to be hand in hand in the meeting...the OA just gives you some of the added support you need... I may look in to it as well. I go to WLS meetings here, but I am struggling and need some additional guidance... I like your idea very much!

    I'm 5'5" , 370# which surgery?

@SugarFreeMe was just thinking about the lightheadedness thing...experiencing that right now with "stars" in my eyes...not good... I was as heavy, but a bit taller than you...as everyone stated, you have to figure which one is best... I would NEVER have gone with the band either...not good for someone with over 100 pounds to lose, most doctors are getting away from it anyway, The sleeve keeps your intestines in place, just makes your stomach smaller, so you still absorb Vitamins thru your foods etc and you don't have to take the vitamins like you HAVE to with gastric bypass... I'm sure you will make the decision that you feel is right for you when the time comes

    Belly button leaking after DS?

I didn't have it, but I'd say, call your doctor! You don't want to get an infection or anything...just check in with them to see what they have to say... good luck

  24. This was the topic of our last montly meeting...they had a lot of good articles (you can google them)...but, unfortunately, I'm not aware of books on the subject, tho, I am sure they exist. A good motivational book is the "Success Habits" by Colleen Cook
