  1. Ha! I had my surgery in Mexico and that is exactly what happened. Walked right in there, climbed on the table, the anesthesiologist said here comes the relax (lol) and I started singing Tina Turner. I was more mortified they wanted me to take my panties off. Lol my husband kept laughing at that one.

Omg that's hilarious!! Singing Tina Turner! Ha ha! Love it!

Well I was awake when they rolled me into the room but what killed me is when I woke up I was in a different gown. About an hour or two after I was out of recovery that dawned on me and for a moment I was mildly horrified that I had been completely naked in the operating room! Well DUH....LOL! :P

  2. Tara on tonite is she the first one to have the sleeve done on this show...I have seen a lot of them have gastric bypass

I'm watching it now. She's not the first to have the sleeve, Penny had the sleeve done. I think these are the only 2 tho, the rest I've seen have all been gastric bypass.

  3. I know exactly how you feel! I was the same way, I never cared about what anyone else thought. I was me and I was comfortable in my own skin, naked or clothed. I had the surgery because I wanted to be healthy and live longer than I was going to. Now that my body looks very much like a half melted candle I'm less likely to walk around the house in my panties and bra like before. The loose skin grosses me out. Mostly my stomach. I just had a breast reduction in Dec and I had a complication. The dr thinks because of my inability to eat enuf to get proper nutrition to heal is what caused the complication. I have an open wound the size of my palm on my left breast where my skin practically dissolved and my stitches opened. It's closing slowly but I have to do wet packs on it probably for another month before he can go back in and stitch it back up to close it. I know others wls patients have had plastics and had no problems but I am very leery now of any other surgeries. For now I'll just stick to my Spanx and try to get used to this new body!

  4. I wish I could watch this!!! I only have basic cable and netflix. I've seen Melissa's story on netflix which really hit home with me.

Her story was amazing! I love that she got off all her weight, reached her goal, had a baby and continued to keep it off. She was very determined and worked very hard. I like that she went on to work for the dr helping counsel other patients seeking wls.

  5. Take it very easy on the food. . And take the alcohol totally in moderation. .. 6 week s is early. Try half a glass of wine or half a shot of spirit absolutely drowned in non fizzy mixer. As long as its not fizzy or acidic you should be able to enjoy :0)

I agree. Stay away from carbonation! But wine or a shot I think would be ok. Just beware it will hit you a lot faster than before surgery. Take it slow and listen to your body. As far as food, eating out on while on vacation can be tricky but just remember to pick things on the menu that will benefit your body not hurt it. Get in that Protein and watch your portions. You can do it! Also, enjoy your vacation, have fun! The Caribbean is beautiful, enjoy the beauty of where you are! :)

  6. Yes, James story was a good one. I love when things totally turn around for these people on the show. So many times obese people are perceived as having zero willpower and that's just so not true. I think it's great that this dr is willing to help those that are 600+ and give them second chances at life. I really do wish the best for them and for all of us that have struggled with our weight.

  7. I agree! I mean I'm a year out of sleeve surgery and even a little fried food tears my stomach up so I avoid it! She was eating a ton of those things after only being sleeved a few months! And don't get me started on the husband....he's no dr but he thinks fried wontons are better than takeout?!!? Omg!! And asking her in the hospital if she wanted ice cream, I almost fainted! She's very selfish in my opinion and she took the whole thing like a joke. Saying the dietician was stupid and she wouldn't even try anything during physical therapy except give excuses! Geez....

It's not easy. God knows I'm not perfect but I try. It takes work and with her it's like she has given up and doesn't want to try. Yes I would also be interested to see how she's doing today.

  8. Does anyone watch this show on the TLC channel? It's on Tuesdays and it shows people who are close or even over 600lbs who undergo wls to save their lives. This last one on the 21st was the story of a 45 year old named Penny who weighed 530lbs. I was so frustrated watching the episode! She was in the hospital for a month and lost 40lbs so the dr agreed to do wls on her and chose the sleeve. He wanted to do the switch eventually. She never lost any weight!! They followed her for a year and she GAINED weight! She had an excuse for everything they asked her to do. She was bed ridden and refused to try to get up and walk!! She never walked the whole year, it ended her weighing 495lbs and still not walking. I just don't understand why you would uproot your life, undergo surgery and then not follow drs orders. I honestly didn't know it was even possible that you could even have that surgery and NOT lose weight! The dr suspected her husband was sneaking her food! She was griping at the nurse that no one told her she was going to be on a diet and expected to lose weight while she was in the hospital! Are you kidding me?? She was in the hospital 4 months after and never lost a pound so the dr gave up. I just don't get it. I guess some people really think wls is a quick fix and you don't have to do anything but wait for the weight to fall off. It was just very frustrating to watch. Anyway, that's the first one I've seen that had a bad outcome. Most of them have been really neat to see how they get the weight off and go on to living life again.

  9. I'm with ya! It's even worse because I had breast reduction surgery dec 10, 2013 and now I can really see my stomach! So gross! I wear Spanx etc too and once I get to goal will most def have to have plastic surgery. I look like a melted candle...ew.

  10. Oh no!! My husband swears by Emergen-C and will drink it 3 times a day til he feels like the colds not coming on anymore. When he is sick hell still drink it 3 times daily and it lessens the longevity of the cold. Idk, but he hasn't been sick with a cold for a long time! Good luck and hang in there!! :)

  11. My year is almost here, 1/15/14 and my appetite is a funny thing. I still eat an egg in the morning sometimes a piece of bacon or toast as well. lunch I can eat a whole 6 inch sub from subway some days. Some days I get 3/4 of the way thru it and have to stop. I always do turkey with a bunch of veggies. I love sandwiches for lunch and when I don't eat subway I just make it on regular bread and that's what I can fit. For Snacks I LOVE raw veggies! Carrots and cucumbers, celery and broccoli. I also love to eat a few tablespoonful of hummus with a few pita chips. For dinner I can fit a chicken thigh minus skin with about 1/4 to 1/2 cup cooked veggies. I also will do fish or some other meat, 4-6 ounces with some sort of veggie. Usually broccoli. I put it in a pan, drizzle olive oil on it and some seasonings and bake it, holy cow that's delish! I can definitely eat more than I could in the beginning but I am still limited. For me it's all about making better choices when I eat. My weight loss has been kind of slow. I've lost 137 lbs to date, but I am still losing so I'm happy.

  12. Once my chest doesn't slap me in the face' date=' I may give running a shot. Even the best sports bra doesn't keep these babies down.

Oh, I might get banished to the powder room if I vent any longer.[/quote']

Omg!! I'm hyperventilating!! That's funny!! I have the same problem! If I ran I'd have black and blue eyes!! Ha ha ha! Thanks for the laugh!

  13. Yeah I'm not sure why someone would delete all of their postings when they could possibly be helpful to someone later on. The op originally sounded like he was trying to share some information' date=' but clearly sharing was not the intention or the posts would not have been altered.[/quote']

I agree!! I was really looking for information on this and wanted to get others opinions on the subject! I know that ultimately it's up to me and my dr but I want to be sure I have thought about every aspect before making any decisions about another surgery. And I haven't made my mind up. So I have experienced only a 5lbs weight loss for the last 2 months, that's not to say my body might kick back into gear and I may go on to lose weight. It's just scary when I'm still at 305lbs and I'm already slowing way down. I'm happy if I can keep losing, don't get me wrong, I just wanna be sure my body isn't preparing to quit losing all together. Because then yes I would feel like a failure.

  14. I must disagree with the first part of this post

The sleeve WAS the first part of the DS yes' date=' but through the years has proven itself an effective method of weight loss on its own. It is now considered a stand alone surgery. Mind you it's been perfected in the last couple of years with things like smaller bougie (60 bougie is all but unheard of these days) making sure to eliminate all of the fundus and so forth.

It sounds like you feel like something was not told to you? Like you were deceived?

I could be wrong, but I think that most of us that did our research on the VSG surgery know its origins and know that it is considered a stand alone surgery.

Now in mrs G's case her surgeons plan was the DS so that is a totally different case in my book, because obviously the DS is still the plan of action for some surgeons and patients.[/quote']

Exactly! When we went to seek approval from ins she suggested going for the DS because my ins covered it and she felt like it would give me options. Right after surgery she came to my room and told me they were able to do the sleeve and we would see how it goes. She said I may shed 100lbs then stop or I could get all the way to goal. No way of knowing til I got further out from surgery and to see how my progress is going. I guess I should just ask her what she thinks. I'm just thinking I should give it some more time.

  15. >>>Give it at least 2 years. At least!!!<<<

Based on what study or professional advice? I wish I had had the DS at the end of 12 months' date=' instead of waiting two years. It is just wasted, miserable time, during which I became depressed and self punishing. Many have the sleeve as part of the DS,at one time, so waiting past the time the Dr indicates and the insurance approves makes no sense. The regain is a very real possibility and occurs to a lot more people than you

    realize...[/quote']

That's exactly what I do not want to happen. I understand its a process and not a magic wand but am I on a 5lbs a month trend til I stop all together or will my body eventually let me get to goal. I understand waiting a little while and letting things take their coarse but I also do not want to feel that I wasted time trying to get to a goal that my body won't allow. I'm just wondering realistically how long to wait. 2 years seems like a long time. I was thinking a year. Especially if I stop losing all together in a few months, however I don't want to jump the gun so to speak either, especially when considering all things involved in finishing the switch.

  16. I was approved for a DS thru my ins. I've only had the sleeve done so far. I am exactly 7 months out today my surgery weight was 413 and I'm now 305. I have lost very little in the last few months, like 5lbs for June and 5lbs for July. My dr said I should know if I will need the 2nd half of the switch around this time. I'm just wondering at what point do you throw in the towel and say I've gone as far as I can with the sleeve? The 2nd part kinda freaks me out although I don't want to be stuck at this weight either. So do you just keep truckin along and lose 5lbs a month til goal or do you go for the 2nd part. This is just something I'm curious about. I'm also freaked out in that I'm still losing hair from getting the sleeve. Am I going to have to go thru all that again too? Idk.

  17. This gives me hope. I feel like I'm breaking up with a boyfriend right now! LOL! My emotions are pretty high-strung. I had to the surgery on 7/17 and have dropped 10 pounds. I'm having difficulties getting my Water and Protein numbers in...but I'm always close. I'm really living off of Isopure and Water. There are so many Vitamins to take!!! Will the day ever come where we can take Vitamins in pill format? Ugh...I sick of chewables. I'm having some trouble with burping. I feel like I have to burp after every sip I take. Please oh please tell me this goes away! I work in an office with cubicles and I'm terrified my coworkers will think I'm a burping banchee!!!

You will make it thru this time! I know it doesn't seem like it right now but things get so much better the further out from surgery you get. I'm just over 6 months out and I eat pretty much anything only much smaller portions. For me it's all about making better food choices. That combined with the amount you can eat and exercise it works. And yes, you should be able to take pill form soon! Ask your doctor. Mine said after 4 weeks and I was so happy, for me the Iron tablets were the worst! They tasted like I just sucked on a handful of pennies! :P The burping gets better too! Congrats on your sleeve and best of luck to you!

  18. Yes. I had this same thing happen to me around 2 1/2 months out. I never had any problems with different foods etc, no vomiting and then at my 2 1/2 month mark I could only eat half of what I was and twice I almost threw up. I never did but came close. It changed again a few weeks later and I could eat what I was again. I'm not sure what that was all about. Now I still have days where I get full super quick and then days like yesterday when I feel I could eat a horse....spread out thru the day of course ;) just keep listening to your body and recognize signs your tank is getting full and don't ignore it or you will feel sick. Good luck!

  19. Thank you so much. I took 800mg both Sat & Sunday night but took out the tongue ring today. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It was in the way too much when trying to eat & I sounded like I had a speech problem when I talked. I kept telling myself' date=' "You just got it done. Give it time." BUT, no way. It's just not for me, lol!! Oh, I didn't have issues with the Ibuprofen though. It's not something that I will make a habit out of, cause I don't wanna cause myself any harm, but I felt it was necessary Sat & Sun.[/quote']

Aw that's too bad. I've had mine for 6 years. As soon as the swelling went down I changed to a shorter bar and have had no issues, no broken teeth or anything.

As far as ibuprofen I was told it is fine once in a while and take it with food.
