  1. By the way, this is anything but minor. Do you have benefits? FMLA? Anything you tell your boss should be confidential. There is no reason they would ever need to tell your coworkers what is specifically going on with you. I would say, I'm having surgery on this day and will be out for this long. If they as which, ask If you are required to disclose that. If you are, be honest and also state that this is to be kept confidential. If not, be vague.

Where to get protein foods and samples

My coworker who just had bypass says that GNC will let you sample in store. He also swears by their rewards program. I guess on a certain day you get buy one get one half off and 15-20% off the stores? I'm not sure if the details vary by store.

    Night Shift Sleevers

When I journal, I use my bedtime as end of day instead of midnight. I'm 3 on 4 off unless there is OT. I'm probably just thinking too much about it

    Morning Wood

I was actually over in the ladies area and someone mentioned something about their sex drive. I consider myself an overachiever in that area, so I was interested. I hope my libido doesn't die like a lot of the women were mentioning. I admit it, I was snooping. I'm also a perv, so anything to do with sex, I read!

Thanks for the support! Today hasnt been bad so far. I'll tell you what, I'm super gassy. I have always been moderately gassy, though. We will see what tomorrow brings! I don't know what everyone else is required to do for the pre-op diet. Some people I read only have to do the day before of Clear liquids. What does yours consist of?

My surgery is scheduled for 9/4 . I am only required to do an 8 day liquid diet, but I started today. I keep getting these "lasts" cravings. I want my last burger for a while. I want my last bunch of fries. I want my last steak. If I don't start now and restrict myself and gain some control and simplicity, I'll eat the last 18lbs I lost right back on my body. So, I started today. We will see how it goes!

    Sleep Study Hell!

Ugh! That's awful! I'm sorry that was your experience. Some people shouldn't work in healthcare. I would ask for a different tech. I would also call the lab and report them to the office manager. They shouldn't be lying to you like that and bedside manner is a huge deal. We have surveys to rate the patients experience. The scale is 1-5. If there are ever 3's or lower, they call the patient. If you still get crappy care from the OM, try another lab if available. Also, if you do have to go back there for CPAP, make sure you try out the different style masks. I tell my patients all the time that just because you are claustrophobic, it does not mean you will definitely like nasal pillows because they are minimal. Often, a full face mask ends up being preferred because you have the option to breathe with your mouth. Also, don't let them shove you into a full mask because you mention you are a mouth breather unless it's the one you want to wear. Half the time, all you need is a little extra air and your mouth will close. Good luck in the future. Don't stand for sub-par care! It's not the norm and shouldn't be tolerated!

    Just Started My Pre-Op Diet!

What are your limitations on the Pre Op liquid diet for y'all? I'm to drink 6-8oz non- calorie liquids like Water with crystal light or mio and tea and then 6-8oz glasses of fat free milk with the Carnations Breakfast essentials no sugar added powders. There are some other options of lactose intolerant things but this was the main one. I can also have sugar free Jello or popsicles and broth as long as it's less than 15 calories per serving. How does this compare to the other diets out there? Oh, and I'm only required to do 8 days, but I think I'm going to do 12 for good measure.

    Sleep Study

I'm sorry your lab has crappy beds! One of the ones I used to work at has Tempurpedic beds and my current lab has sleep Number. I'd also suggest the sleeping pill, but depending on the size of your town there may be another lab. You just need to make sure they take your insurance. Home studies are becoming more common, but a lot of labs are still not taking the bait yet. Plus, you can't do a CPAP titration at home. Well, you can, but I wouldn't recommend going that way.. Unfortunately with movement, leads (especially leg) can come off. In order to get a solid study and even possibly diagnose periodic leg movements, all the wires need to stay connected. Also, don't be afraid to bring a fan or noise machine if you usually sleep with one. Feel free to bring your own pillow and blanket if that will put you at ease. We try to accomodate. I just ask that you wear clothes. LOL I've seen TOO MUCH!

    Sleep Study

Price that you pay depends on your insurance. At the lab I work at, I believe our studies run between $2500 and $5000 depending on which test you are getting done. I'm not completely sure because I don't do the day stuff. I'm the one that tortures you with the electrodes, cannulas and masks!

    Sleep Study Hell!

As a sleep tech, I would suggest talking to your doctor about getting an anti-anxiety med. We do Pre-op patients all the time. We also do all ages from infants to elderly. Some people come in with your same kind of anxiety. Personally, I always try to talk people down in a calm voice and be supportive. Between the people that are here for bariatric surgeries, truck drivers and even husbands who their wives sent them, it's not always a desired test to have. Just keep in mind this is to help you. If you are found to have sleep apnea, it doesn't mean you will be stuck with CPAP. Though obesity isn't always a guarantee to be the cause, I usually tell the patients if it came with weight it might go with loss. Even 10-15 lbs can make a huge difference. So just think that this may only be for a short time. Also, please don't think I'm mean. If my patient were texting and posting on their phone all night during their sleep study and not trying to lay still taking deep breaths in order to try to relax and then telling me they are anxious. I would be personally a bit irritated. I tell my patients all the time that I will try and work with you as long as YOU try. Otherwise, I would be trying to get them to leave instead of wasting my time that I could be spending monitoring my other patients.

    Liquid Diet

The surgeon told me this liquid diet is to help shrink the liver ( or the fat on the liver). I'm assuming this will make it easier to retract to gain access to your stomach and minimize complications. That's my best guesstimate.
