  1. So cool!!! SoReady' date=' where are you having your surgery? Are you in the pre-op diet?[/quote']

Hey Pinktink-yes, I've been on a preop diet since the 29th...my Dr only asks for 10 days, but I wanted to b sure my liver would b ready-so I started a wk early...I'm being sleeved in Mexico @ the Obesity Goodbye Center in TJ...Nursegirl & I both will b stayin @ the Lucerna afterwards..can't wait to meet her :) Where r u havin yours done?

  2. Tuesday will be one month post op for me and I have not had one single regret. NOT ONE. Woke up from surgery with some nausea' date=' but the nurses were great and got it under control. Had no pain (RNs gave me pain meds) and I was up walking a few hours after surgery. I was discharged less than 24 hours later and honestly felt great. The only complaint I had was some gas pains and my belly was swollen from the gas. That took a few days to stop. I was able to sleep on my side immediately. I prefer my belly and found that with pillows, I could even do that after a day or two. I equate the belly pain with the soreness I would feel if I had done a lot of sit ups. Totally bearable. I only took the pain meds at night.

I did have an issue the first few days with drinking. I wanted to take big gulps, but could only take tiny sips. I also hiccuped and burped a lot during this time. My MD and NUT had warned me about all of this. Every week, drinking is easier and easier. I was encourage to start working out immediately, but not at high intensity. Treadmill was good for me. Plus you need to walk, walk, walk after surgery. Prevents clots and pneumonia and helps get rid of the gas.

You could go to the gym and count calories and lose weight that way. For me, losing weight was never an issue. Keeping it OFF was my issue. No one I ever spoke to told me this was a magic bullet. My doctor and his staff were very honest and explained it is only a tool that needs to be used with healthy eating and exercise. The weight has fallen off of me so far. I lost 16 before surgery and have lost 41 total at less than 4 weeks out. I feel better than I have in YEARS. I am down a few sizes.

It is a personal decision whether to have surgery, but please know there are many who have no regrets. I think sometimes unhappy folks (unhappy with the surgery I mean) post more than others. It's a good place to come for support.

Good luck with what you decide.

Well said!! & congrats to u!!

  3. I was sleeved on the morning of the 7th and my worst fears were unfounded. Got home from the hospital at around 3 today' date=' and it's no picnic, but not as bad as I imagined it would be. For those of you going later this month, try to remember the Biotene spray for your dry mouth, and the Gas-EX strips for the gas. They really do make a difference.

We don't own a scale, so I have to wait until my Dr. appointment on Thursday to find out if I lost anything yet. Best of luck to the rest of the September Sleevers.

    Much love,

    MC[/quote']

Congrats MCM!! Happy to hear the event was a success :) I pray mine goes as well.

  4. I have heard good about both those doc's too' date=' the one thing that bothers me is the 2 hr drive down to mexicali from San Diego, I would rather be closer to san diego. I have an appointment on Monday with my PCP so I am going to put a list of links together so he can see its gonna be a good thing, I just always worry about the first gut reaction of people when they hear you are going to Mexico I want to back it up for him so he can go check it out himself. That being said I havn't told alot of people because I don't want to deal with alot of comments, I will tell people maybe when I get home lol[/quote']

I'm having surgery the same day as Nursegirl! Dr verboonen is doin mine & his surgical center is 20 seconds from San Diego...

  5. I didn't need a robe. I put my own nightgown on as soon as I could get up and wore it to walk around it. I was in Mexicali and I was pretty warm in just that. I actually asked for a fan in my room cause it seemed so warm to me. If you will have a drain' date=' I suggest 2 nightgowns. The night my drain was removed, my bandage got filled with the gunk and it went everywhere. I had to change. So glad I had brought another one.[/quote']

Idk if I'll have one-(drain) I just assumed everyone did...

  6. yeah no prob!! I had just thought of it too. I guess AT&T offers a plan also for like 5 for the month for calls but all you get is a 'discounted' rate of 59 cents/min LOL I added it too just in case I need to make an emergency call but I'm pretty sure I've seen people posting that either the hospital or the hotel has an 800 number we can use to call the US if we need to.. but don't quote me on that hahaha I've got my gas-x strips' date=' heating pad, Kindle and charger, my favorite pillow, and believe it or not I don't own a robe so I looked online this week and found one at walmart.com that is 16 and comes in plus sizes.. should be here Monday. Just wanna make sure I'm not flashing my rear at people when I'm walking the halls LOL[/quote']

AHHHH-a robe! Yet another item I need to get!! I think I can get away with just a carryon...my facilitator says, but what about all the shoppin ur gonna do post op?! Lol how optimistic!! I hope I feel that well ;)

  7. I applied for my passport and it took exactly 3 weeks to get it in the mail.. I have also heard many people say they went back n forth across the border with just a DL and birth certificate but I didn't want to take a chance LOL

and yep I'm the one having surgery next Friday the 14th in TJ with Dr Ponce! can't WAIT!! SoReady219 and I are gonna be at the hotel at the same time so we're gonna have a sip-a-thon hahaha

There u are girlie!!! Its gettin close! I got my txtn plan all taken care of last nite! Tks for lettin me kno-that was one thing that NEVER crossed my mind!

  8. Getting sleeved on the 20th by dr verboonen at obesity goodbye center (wow' date='I like the sound of that) , so u guys will have to tell me how things went and what to look forward to. I'm so anxious! I start my liquid diet Monday, just went out tonight and picked up some Protein shakes to get started with. I'm gonna try to go ahead and start slowing it down over the weekend so I don't go into complete shock, lol. My problem has never been eating at work, half the time I don't eat breakfast and lunch which may hurt me even worse but I pig out when I get home, while cooking I snack heavily and then eat a full meal and go find a place to lay down. I can't wait to have the energy to exercise or be active with my kids. I'm pooped by the time I get home and I get irritable if I know I have to keep going when I get off work. I have a 10 day liquid diet so if anyone has any creative ways to make it through. I don't think I will have a problem but then again you never know until you get into it. Just not sure what to expect. Do you get sick or nauseated, what about headaches from not eating or hunger pains? Just curious, not complaining or whining by I am ready to do this, just want to be prepared.[/quote']

Yea, I was to do a 10 day-but I made myself do a 14 day...if Dr V wants my liver shrunk-I want it invisible!! Just when u start-have a Protein shake for bfast-I'm not a bfast Water AT ALL-but it dd help with hunger & I didn't get any headaches...I work 12's & 16's hour shifts do I always had to pack shakes or broth cause if b ravenous by the time I got home...it hasn't been bad, I just keep my eye on the prize...

Although ur choices r limited-I'm sick of sf Jello...I'm pushin thru...eat to live, not live to eat...I'll let u kno how it goes!! Super-psyched right now :)

Also, don't forget to add an international txt'n plan to ur cell for the trip-I never thought of that...big tks to Nursegirl for that info!!
