  1. I'm a Valentines Day sleever too. I feel great! Started my two week preop diet on 1/31 at 397. I weighed 365 this morning.
  2. Sleeved about 5 hours ago. Feeling awesome. Pain is about a 2 on a 10 scale. Dr Kim is great!
  3. Awesome! That will be me in another 24 hours. I'm scheduled for noon surgery on 2/14. I'm down about 25 myself.
  4. I go to the one in Coppell. It's close to my work near 114 and PGBT. It's going to be a while until I'm back there though. One of my last big meals before pre-op was at the Pecan Lodge. It keeps the doors open at the farmers market in Dallas. We waited almost an hour, but it was great.
  5. I've had bbq from about 200 different places from all over the country. Gates is my favorite. I live near Dallas so going there is a bit of a haul, but my Mom lives outside of STL and the Walmart stores around there stock the sauce.
  6. Going in on 2/14. I'm down 25 lbs from pre-op dieting that started on 1/31.
  7. Me too! I'm CCIE#34420. Surgery is 2/14, I'm planning on returning on 2/25.
  8. The problem is when you are type 1 on a pump and you disconnect your body gets zero insulin. You can get very sick in a very short amount of time with zero insulin. People have gone into comas and died from DKA (diabetic keto acidosis) . I had it once and spent three days in ICU.
  9. Yeah it's not happening. I see the surgeon Tuesday and I'll be in touch with my endo Monday. I'm comfortable doing it at 7 or 8 in the morning, but midnight is a trip to the emergency room. I have 100% confidence my endo will call bs on it too. There no reason to do it more than 4 or 5 hours before surgery. That's about the total lifespan of Novolog in your system. The whole point is not to go hypoglycemic in the OR. Even if I d/c'ed an hour or two before surgery there's no way I would go low.
  10. So I did my preop today. It went fairly well, but one thing really concerns me. My surgeon wants me to disconnect my insulin pump at midnight day of surgery. I'm scheduled for 12. I take tons of insulin a day like 160 units a day. This seems like a very dangerous thing to do. I've heard of people who have had their cats chew their tubing in the middle of the night and have to go to the emergency room in the morning. Am I the only one who thinks this is borderline suicidal? Damn! I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of my high confidence level in Dr Kim. I'm talking to my endo on Monday. I'll have her talk to Dr. Kim about that.
  11. I also checked out Nick Nicholson. I'm not exactly fond of my insurance requiring me to go to a hospital and hour and a half away. Dr. Nick can do it much closer to my house. Dr. Nick is great doctor and probably a very good surgeon, but his staff seems a little sub-par. They seemed a little overworked and understaffed. I really didn't get that impression on the two visits I've had a Dr Kim's. Dr Kim's staff is very organized and very responsive. I'm going to have a lot more interaction with the staff, so I picked Dr. Kim.
  12. I spoke to my big sister and she's willing to hop on a plane with my niece on 2/13 to entertain the kids and manage them at my house. They will fly out on Sunday. What an awesome sister I have! We fought like cats and dogs as kids, but she's there for me. Looks like my wife will be with me the whole time.
  13. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that Dr. Kim is the complete package. Not that I'm a expert at medical practices or anything, but he runs an efficient operation and his staff and facilities are excellent. I do find it mildly annoying to go in his office and hear the sales videos loop over and over along with the billboards everywhere. I can overlook that. I realize that WLS is a big business in the DFW area and it's a cut-throat business just like cellphones, Internet service, etc. He's got the funds to do the media blitzes because of his success.
  14. Greetings! I have my surgery scheduled for 2/14/13. It's me, my wife, a 2 yo, and a 6 yo. My closest family is almost 12 hours out and my hospital is 90 minutes away. My plan was to get a hotel room the night before surgery with whole family. Report to surgery the next day and keep them in the area. They would either visit me in the hospital, hang out around the town, or be in the hotel until I'm cleared to go home. Does this sound reasonable? I know most patients spend one night in the hospital, but what's the typical policy towards kids in recovery? Should I put my sister on plane to help out? I'm afraid my wife is going to be overwelmed with the kids, but she wants to be by my side at the same time. Any advise would be welcomed. Thanks!
  15. I'll second the Premier Nutrition ready to drink shakes. They taste good and are a bargin at Costco. I've had the chocolate and vanilla. They aren't super thick either. I had a sugar free shake (I think it was muscle milk) and I just about puked. Sour and chemical tasting. Drank part of one and tossed the other 3 in the package. Muscle milk light are okay, but not as good as the Premier.
  16. Plano, TX - Surgery is scheduled for 2/14/13 with Dr. Kim at Wise Regional.
  17. 407 lbs now with a BMI of 47(I'm very tall). I hope to be 380ish before the preop diet starts. I'm scheduled for Dr. Kim on 2/14 at Wise Regional in Decatur, TX.
  18. I just bought a Ninja 1100 with the 40 and 72 oz containers, dough paddle, and few other things. costco had them on sale for $94 with coupon. It's nice and works well, but not vitamix nice! :-) It's a good balance between quality, functionality, and cost. A smaller container one might be nice. I'm making smoothies now with it, but 40 oz is a lot for a sleaver to drink. I get about a 32 oz drink out of the 40.
  19. Several Things: 1) My wife and young family (6 yo girl and 2 yo boy) 2) I need to stop the insanity. I weigh 400 lbs, have sleep apena, out of control diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. I'm not even 40! 3) My gut doesn't fit in a booth at a restaurant. 4) Very hard to buy clothes that fit at regular stores. I have a 50 inch waist and need 32 inseams. Almost an impossible combination. 5) I love hiking in the mountains. Extra weight and thin air make this extremely hard. I took a hike last fall and couldn't hike 15 yards up a steep trail without getting out of breath at 6000'. 6) Amusement parks/go kart rides, etc, etc
  20. Dr. Kim 2/14 at Wise. I'm going to give myself some time to get adjusted to daily workouts and dieting before starting the pre-op. We are doing the long drive to Decatur from Plano and we'll all (wife and kids) be in a hotel the night before surgery.
