    Attention February 2013 Sleeve Buddies!

    I'm still losing, but it has slowed down a bit. I'm working out like a freaking animal to keep my losing up. I'm going to walk 12 miles today. I was losing 20 pounds a month, now it's more like 12-15. I've always worked out, and I've always had six "meals" per day. I'm down 16 inches from my waistline and 3 shirt sizes. 160+ pounds lost from my heaviest weight.

    If you want to sanity check the Fitbit, you can use the Navy test. http://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy I agree with Will on the float test. It is the absolute most accurate method. It also costs a lot more money than a caliper or tape.
  3. Check with your doc, but I would think it's okay. People fly to go to Mexican surgeons all of the time. And that's just a few days after surgery.

    It's very common to stall. Some people stall for long periods of time too. I have a specific pattern with my body. I drop lots of weight early in the week and then stall out after Wednesday. Don't just watch the scale, take measurements as well. Lots of times when you stall, your body is resizing itself. Take the victories anyway you can get them whether it's at the scale or at the tape.

    There's no silver bullet when it comes to exercise other than just get moving. I tend to mix things up a bit. I'll lift weights and do gym stuff for a while. Then I might go on a walking binge for a month or two. Maybe toss some interval training in there as well. Some days I take my bike out. It's literally a toss-up as to what I'm going to do, but something gets done. In terms of the diet... Focus on hitting your marks set by your doctor. Hit the Protein and Water hard. One rule of thumb my doctor recommends is to pick foods that deliver 1 gm of protein per 10 calories.     thinking about food

    I think about a lot of the things I used to eat, and then I wonder what the hell I was doing! I'm talking about doing 4 or 5 rounds at a buffet or just totally eating way more than any normal person would eat. Things get much easier as time passes. Your weight drops. Your outlook on life becomes much more positive. You will look forward to having an active, healthy lifestyle. It's tough in the beginning, but once that scale really starts moving things will be much better.

    Look at the big picture. You lost 29% of your body weight in 7 months. That's impressive! You'll get there.

    I'm far from an expert on the topic, but I heard somewhere that caffeine can contribute to dehydration. I have 2 cups of coffee a day, but I'm also 5+ months out and drinking tons and tons of water (like 14-15 cups a day).

    I've tried the Click products. Vanilla Latte and Mocha are both outstanding. There is another brand called big train that's supposed to be very good as well.
  12. I was the same way. I felt great about 2 days out with very little soreness. I was weak and needed a nap for about the first week to make it through the day. Other than that I was good to go.

    When does it get better

    Support groups as Don mentioned are an absolute must. Outside of that, just take each day at a time. Things will get better! Your body is still healing. It will be healing for quite some time. I was told after 6 weeks to eat anything I could tolerate (within reason of course). To this day, there are lots of things I stay away from. Not because I can't eat them, but because I don't need the crap I used to eat. Focus on hitting the goals of Water, Protein, and activity that your doctor has. It will help you heal. It will make you stronger. I don't regret my choice to have surgery for a second. That scale keeps me happy :-)

    Congrats! You will do great. Just make sure you get out and walk as soon as you are stable enough on your feet. It is best way to recover. It keeps the gas in check. That will probably be your biggest problem post op.

  16. It was an awesome experience. The last time I was on a roller coaster was 20 years ago. Man have they changed.
  17. Major NSV: I got my @ss kicked by some awesome roller coasters last night at Universal Studios. I didn't even need the larger seats on the ride.
  18. 283 this morning. I was 407 when my preoperative diet started. Sleeved on 2/14. I eat between 800 - 900 calories and get 80-100 grams of protein in. Feeling great. No problems.

    Endoscopy

    I needed my wife to drive me home per hospital rules. I walked out perfectly stable on my feet. I felt a little tired for about 4 hours afterwards. After that everything was like a normal day for me.

    Same here. Mine was discovered in the EGD. I was told that a high percentage of WLS patients have them. It's nothing to worry about. Good luck on Wed Roserie!

    Unjury chocolate splendor or classic?

    I have no experience with the classic, but splendor is very good. It's similar to a Nestle Quick flavor.

    There are tons of options in terms of sugar-free syrups. Walmart usually carry these around the coffee and tea. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard of people mixing small amounts of SF pudding mix in there. Of course once your doctor approves coffee you can get creative with mochas and fraps based on protein shakes.
