    Tomorrow

Oh, just take a deep breath and relax. I think we all had those feelings right before surgery and also feelings of 'what I have I done" right after but even 1 month out, I can honestly say, it has been a great thing for me. I am off all my meds for blood pressure, high cholesterol and insulin resistance. I am already feeling so much better (although there were some difficult days) and have already lost 30 pounds!!!!! Now, if you really want to back out, then go with your gut but you have already been through so much to get where you are. Know that I am thinking of you! Best wishes!

    Feeling Down 5Days Post Op

Sorry you are feeling bad. I had my sleeve a little over a month ago and I can remember 2 times thinking "what have I done!!!" Those first few weeks are the hardest (as far as I have been through) Day by day it will get better. I know it is difficult especially with your little one but just look at how much more you will be able to do with him very soon and how much longer you will be around to watch him grow because of your health improving. Just since my surgery, I have been taken off both of my blood pressure meds, my cholesterol med and my insulin resistance (pre-diabetes) med. Just hold on, dont expect too much from yourself and take deep slow breaths and just keep telling yourself that you can do this!!! And these instances will only be for a short time! Feel better!

    Feeling Down

So sorry for your problems! I hope you will soon feel better. Thinking of you!
  6. Well next Thursday, will be my birthday. So, my husband wanted to plan and give me a big party. I had asked that he not plan anything because I am only a month sleeved and still on purees until next week. But, he and some of his friends decided I needed a party and since I had been wanting hummus since I was on purees, he planned my whole birthday party around the theme "Hummus". haha We had Greek marinaded chicken kabobs, falafel, hummus, cucumber sauce, pitas and baklava. YEP! It was my big fat Greek birthday party! Someone also brought a big beautiful strawberry cheesecake from one of the best bakeries in town!!!! They even put FELIZ CUMPLEANOS candles on them and I blew them out. But no matter what everyone else ate, no matter that I cooked most of it and blew out the candles on that tempting cheesecake.... I ate my hummus and was happy. Everything looked really good and was good from what everyone was saying but I am praying that as I continue on this journey that by next year, I wont have any BIG FAT anything!!! My husband actually made some mini cheesecakes out of stevia and I had a 2 tiny bites of one. It was really a sweet and special thing for him to do for me. Everyone at my party had known about my surgery and that also helped with accountability as well. I could have easily just taken a few bites here and there. So that is one good reason to share this news with those around you. Anyway, although I was really dreading this party, I have a tool that helps me not overeat and my mind is finally catching up and I realize that I can enjoy a party without gorging myself. Happy Birthday to me!

My Big Fat Greek Birthday Party

Cinders, I have to tell you that my husband is definitely a keeper. We have been married almost 24 years and he has loved me unconditionally and has never ever made me feel inferior because of my weight. He is a good man and a great father!!! And the poor guy planned my party etc while still in a leg cast and on crutches.

    Why Are We So Embarrassed?

I have been pleasantly surprised at the support and encouragement that I have received from the people whom I have told. I didnt make a big Facebook post about it and tell the world but I have told the majority of people I work with, run around in social circles with and of course all of my family. I have not gotten not even one single negative comment about it. It does seem like when I go to outings or see friends, I am the topic of conversation, with them asking how I am, how much I have lost, what I can eat now etc. It has been helpful for me to have told those people because when we get invited to their house, I dont have to worry about them being offended if I dont eat or if I bring my own food. I am not advertising it to the world, but I am definitely not ashamed should anyone ask.

  17. Congrats! Great work!!!
  18. Hey there. A week before I started my pre-op diet I decided to go ahead and cook some food for the family and freeze it for them for the first few weeks so I wouldnt have to worry about it for the first few weeks. I knew that my husband and son could take care of themselves but it was something I decided to do so I wouldnt worry and do more than I should. It was good that I did, because the same day of my surgery, my husband broke his leg and has been in a leg cast and on crutches since then, so it really has helped alot. I just cooked some things that would be easy for them to heat up or stick in the oven. They have really appreciated it and I am so thankful that I did it. I also took the same time to prepare a few broths and cream soups and I packaged them in small bags because I knew I wouldnt be able to eat much at all. Funny because I actually ate a lot less than I thought I would. I have been out to eat twice since my surgery. Once during my full liquids stage when I could have cream Soup. We looked at the menu online and made sure that they had something I could eat. The second time was just last sunday and I am now on pureed foods and mushee foods so I had some baked fish and mashed potatoes. Actually I ate on that one meal for 4 more meals. Talk about a money saver! I have been able to start cooking where the whole family can eat at least close to what I can eat. We have had blackened talapia this past week that the whole family loved! I have red Beans in the crock pot for tonight. They will have red beans with sausage and rice and I will have a 1/2 cup of the beans smushed up. The first few weeks are hard. Hard being around the family eating whatever they want and it is hard for them because my family felt bad eating things around me but I had to keep telling myself that this was my decision and not theirs. Just take a walk, take a shower or read a book if it bothers you. Now I can pop popcorn, bake Cookies and make meals for the family and it not really be an issue. Heres hoping for great success for you!

    Not Drinking With Meals?

I am glad that you are practicing right now because I didnt think it would be a big deal and in reality it isnt, except when I go out to eat at a restuarant and everyone has a glass of soda, or tea or something and that surprisingly was the biggest problem I had. It had nothing to do with drinking, but the social aspect I guess. After it hitting me like that the first time, I took time to think about it and it was much easier the second time (Only been out to eat twice since my surgery) It doesnt bother me at home at all though. I dont think my tummy could fit anything else in it after getting in the protein I need.

    I Find It Odd

I was sleeved almost a month ago on Sept 11 and less than a week ago I was allowed to eat pureed foods (mashed potatoes, creamed veggies, refried beans, fish) It felt like it took forever to get to this stage but I couldnt imagine being able to eat anything yet. I still have a week and 1/2 before we start introducing new foods. Cant even have chicken yet.

How Were You 2 Weeks Out?

As far as what you eat, you will probably need to plan ahead in order to have your liquids/meals available for you, because it might be a little difficult to get what you need on the road.

    Water

I am not a big drinker either but I do know that it is important, so I have to be super sensitive to it because I could go all day and really not drink anything. I had to play around with the temperature of my drinks to know what tasted better and I could tolerate better. Seems to me and my tummy that the colder the better. I began carrying around a small Water bottle and just trying to sip whenever I saw it. I also have problems with straight water so I have been drinking crystal light and mio. It makes it go down alot easier. Since you are on a full diet and eating Soups and creams, it is likely you are getting in more liquid than you realize. Just keep at it. I even have tried setting an alarm to remind me. haha Good Luck!
