  1. My surgery was two weeks ago. After the surgery, I was hooked up to a PCA pump with Morphine and it did it's job. I had no pain, a little nausea and no dizziness. I stayed in the hospital three days, and by day three I felt normal with a little twinge in my side. After I came home, I slept and walked and drank. All in all, the process was simple. The hard part comes when you have to drink all of those super sweet Protein drinks+water+meals+vitamins. Now, I am over twenty pounds lighter on the verge of being 199 lbs. It's crazy! You will feel so much better. Good luck to everyone!

  2. I love this post. I have been vegan for the last year. I just don't understand why we are instructed not to juice or eat veggie only salads during the pre-op phase. I believe if I can have 1 lean mean green juice= green apple to 3+green vegetables, I can shrink my liver and get Vitamins, Iron, Protein and yummy goodness at the same time. So, I am going against medical advice and having a small salad at night and/or one lean mean green juice during the day. My doctor liked the idea, the nutritionist didn't. I think I will get much more bio available vitamins this way.

The thought of going against medical advice is new for me. I am a go by the rules kinda girl but... I just don't see the harm. Do you?

  3. Hello Everyone,

My VSG buddy and I are having our surgeries within the next month. Woo hoo! :D I would like to give her a big party. I need some ideas and a catchy theme. Can some of you please tell me what you did to Celebrate?

I would love to hear about your last hurrah. Did you say something prophetic, drink till you dropped, burned your big girl bra or just quietly said a prayer? Thank you!

    Thank youThank youth

  4. It doesn't sound great but it's not too bad, especially if you add the Unjury to it. I will attach my two favorite recipies:

    Chocolate Tofu Pudding

    Makes 4 1/2-cup servings

Soft tofu makes it easy to prepare a smooth and creamy chocolate pudding. Be sure the tofu is fresh by checking the date on the package.

    1 pound soft silken tofu

    2 tablespoons cocoa powder

    1/4 teaspoon salt

1/3 - 1/2 cup maple Syrup (to taste) or Splenda (to taste)

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until completely smooth. Spoon into small bowls and chill well before serving.

Moroccan Lentil Soup by the Happy Herbivore

The only thing I do differently is soak the Beans longer and put it in the blender after cooking. It is soooo good. Yum!

  5. I have a thyroid dysorder and take Levoxyl. Pre-surg was aweful! I was having panic attacks, leg cramps, depression and terrible feelings of being scared. The Primary care doc wanted to put me on anti-depressants. I declined because it just treating the symptoms. I had a goiter that has been removed. I am 5 yrs post-op. Just recently, like 1 year ago-ish I have began to feel normal. My only advice is to go to a endocrinologist. Endocrinology is not primary care cookbook medicine. It is very complicated. Be persistant and don't take "natural" medicine as it is not regulated by the FDA. The natural medicine is not easy to control as the dosages vary by batch. Also, either take name brand or generic but don't go back and forth as their formulas are different. I now work for endocrinologists. Just hang in there and again be persistant! And, finally this is just my opinion as I am not a physician. Good Luck!

  6. Congraulations! I am a patient of Dr. Schuster and am pre-op. I'm just checking to see how others are doing after their surgery. I'm glad to hear you are doing well.

Sorry to hear about the gas. Maybe it's the air that they inflate your abdomen with when they do the surgery. It's like a balloon, that why it takes so long for it to be expelled. Some people get gas pains in their shoulders.

Good Luck and please keep us up to date with your transformation. :D

  7. Hello All, I am in the process of getting sleeved by Dr. Robert Schuster. It is my second go around with pre-op to being sleeved. I decided to try to lose weight and go vegan for a year. The year has come and gone and I havent lost anything. I feel healthy. Anyway, I have been dealing with Banner Gateway for a little over a year. I have to say, everyone I've come in contact with has been awesome. Dr. Schuster has been very personable and I feel like he is an exceptional surgeon.

The only thing I would like more of are the support groups. I work in N. Scottsdale and it takes me over an hour to get to Gilbert after work at 5pm. The chances of fighing traffic only to get there late is slim. I know having support is key to my well being. So, I am looking for other avenues.

BTW if you are a Banner employee there is talk about the co-pay going down. As employees we have to pay a $5000.00 co-pay. It's crazy! So, hopefully it will go down. We will know next month.

I hope to get sleeved in January.
