    Holly Go Lightly

It will be two weeks tomorrow since I had my surgery. I am amazed at the changes that have taken place. In fact, I want to do the Snoopy dance because I am so grateful. As if this am, I weigh 204lbs unofficially. So, when I began four weeks ago I weighed 227lbs. I had two weeks of the Pre-Op diet and weighed 217. One week after surgery, while on the full liquid diet I weighed 211 pounds. Hopefully, at my two week visit on Tuesday(4 days away) I will be at 200 or (AHHH! Angels singing) One hundred and ninety-nine. Heavy sigh, it's been a few years since I was under 200 lbs. I believe it was 2005ish. I feel like I am getting my body back and I can move without being out of breath, slow and heavy or in pain. It's amazing!

    Holly Go Lightly

I am having a hard time getting in all of the protein and water. The only thing I can say is I use Synrax Nectar and Matrix and add 1-1.5cups of FF milk and emersion blend it. So the numbers are 23gms of Nectar protein and 8-10gms of Milk protein = 31 to 33gms of protein for each drink. Also, I use Premier Protein from Costco/Walmart = 30gms. Now if you can get in another 10-20 gms from 1/4-1/3 of another shake you will be golden. In the mean time, I drink SF Arnold Palmers in the tubes, Crystal Light, water, SF popsicles, chicken broth from the packets in the ramen package. There have been many days when I haven't gotten all that I need in. One day, I just was fet up with the shakes and boycotted them. Yuck!! What I was told was that I can add more milk or water to it. If you do, you can add the extra on to your fluid intake. So, I watered it down and drank it will day. I just suggest you start early. Have one in the am, one at noon and one at night. In between, drink the clear liquids.

Bundle of nerves. April 18 is my day.

My surgery was two weeks ago. After the surgery, I was hooked up to a PCA pump with Morphine and it did it's job. I had no pain, a little nausea and no dizziness. I stayed in the hospital three days, and by day three I felt normal with a little twinge in my side. After I came home, I slept and walked and drank. All in all, the process was simple. The hard part comes when you have to drink all of those super sweet protein drinks+water+meals+vitamins. Now, I am over twenty pounds lighter on the verge of being 199 lbs. It's crazy! You will feel so much better. Good luck to everyone!

    Post Op Week 1

So, tomorrow is my first week Post Op and it's been interesting. I seem to have a lot of head hunger. So, I ended up eating more than usual and drinking less than usual. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day. Thank goodness, I one have one more week of liquids. As of this morning, I am down 6 pounds. Amazing! Finally something that works! I cant wait until I am in one-der land. Until then, I need to figure out this new body because I think I'm still eating too fast, too much and too often.

    1 day Post Op

Day one: Well let me just say drinking everything I was suppose to drink didn't happen. It was tough to get 1 1/2 servings of protein and a 1/2 a bottle of water. Now what was easy was the walking. I walked a lot today and had almost no pain. I am a little tired. All in all, it was a great day. Tomorrow I will be posting some Pre-Op pics from the hospital. My goal for tomorrow is to get in all of the protein I need.

    1 day Post Op

Thank you so much! I am feeling better. I am still trying to get in enough liquids and protein. What a process.

    Post Op!

Wow, the surgery is over and I am home, sweet home. All in all, it wasn't too bad. I found out that I am having a weird reaction to Zofran. When I take it, I turn beet red however, it goes away when I take Benadryl. Funny weird, oh well it's a good thing that I'm not nauseous. The only thing I have to say about this whole process is the wicked gas pains. It's been three days and I have gas but it won't come out. So... now I wait, exercise and drink water like a fish.

    Half Way Through Pre-Op Diet

I am finally half way through the this! I have to admit that it's been hard. It's not because I've had stomach hunger or head hunger. It's because I miss eating. Last night, I went to my mother's house and it was tapas night. This morning my roommate made ham, onions and eggs. I love eggs. (heavy sigh) Oh well moving onward, all of this will be over in one week. Woo Hoo! Not to mention that as of friday I've lost 5 pounds. A pound a day is pretty good. If I could only do it for 86 days in a row. Hahah! I have been think about getting a few tattoos. Here are a few ideas: 1.) Promise tattoo on my pinky finger, for the promise I am making to take the best care of myself from now on. 2.) "You never know how strong you are until being stong is is the only thing you have left" 3.) "Enough" because no matter what anyone says, I am good enough, smart enough, thin enough and beautiful enough. In addition, I have to remind myself that I have enough food and stuff. I think I like this one the most. What do you think? If you are reading this, good luck in your journey. I wish you the best of everything.

Pre-Op Diet and Juicing with a Juicer

Oh boy, I am sorry. I can't imagine working in a factory and drinking those protein drinks. I work in a very small doctor office and I have to run next door to use the bathroom because everything is so loud, but I can leave at anytime. Good luck!

Pre-Op Diet and Juicing with a Juicer

I love this post. I have been vegan for the last year. I just don't understand why we are instructed not to juice or eat veggie only salads during the pre-op phase. I believe if I can have 1 lean mean green juice= green apple to 3+green vegetables, I can shrink my liver and get vitamins, iron, protein and yummy goodness at the same time. So, I am going against medical advice and having a small salad at night and/or one lean mean green juice during the day. My doctor liked the idea, the nutritionist didn't. I think I will get much more bio available vitamins this way. The thought of going against medical advice is new for me. I am a go by the rules kinda girl but... I just don't see the harm. Do you?

    Pre-OP Party Ideas

Thank you! Better start planning the big one. What are you going to do?
  16. Hello Everyone, My VSG buddy and I are having our surgeries within the next month. Woo hoo! I would like to give her a big party. I need some ideas and a catchy theme. Can some of you please tell me what you did to Celebrate? I would love to hear about your last hurrah. Did you say something prophetic, drink till you dropped, burned your big girl bra or just quietly said a prayer? Thank you! Thank youThank youth

The First Day of the Rest of my Life

Good Luck! I know your doctor wants you to drink the Bariatrics stuff but Syntrax is having a sale on its Nectar Sample variety pack there are 12, 1 oz samples with shipping for 13.99. Just go on to the website and call the phone number. Nectar and Matrix was made for bariatric patients and has protein isolate as the first ingredient. It is just as good as the Bariatrics stuff. Some of them are amazing tasting. I especially like Matrix cookies and cream and strawberry. Yum!

Wish the weight loss would stop now!

Why don't you work with a dietitian to see what you can do? Unless you got your surgery in Mexico, you should have this already built into your treatment plan.

    1st Day on Pureed Food

It doesn't sound great but it's not too bad, especially if you add the Unjury to it. I will attach my two favorite recipies: Chocolate Tofu Pudding Makes 4 1/2-cup servings Soft tofu makes it easy to prepare a smooth and creamy chocolate pudding. Be sure the tofu is fresh by checking the date on the package. 1 pound soft silken tofu 2 tablespoons cocoa powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/3 - 1/2 cup maple syrup (to taste) or Splenda (to taste) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Place all ingredients in a blender and process until completely smooth. Spoon into small bowls and chill well before serving. Per 1/2-cup serving Calories: 150 Fat: 3.5 g Saturated Fat: 0.7 g Protein: 8.4 g Moroccan Lentil Soup by the Happy Herbivore http://happyherbivore.com/recipe/moroccan-lentil-soup/ The only thing I do differently is soak the beans longer and put it in the blender after cooking. It is soooo good. Yum! \
  22. Awesome picture! Are you lactose intollerant? You might want to try a different protien powder or some Lactase before you take your shake. Oh and I heard you can take Beeno with your beans and brocolli to stop gas. Good Luck!

    Dreams

I finally went to a support group meeting last night. I had this crazy dream that I was just released from the hospital and I felt great. So great I didn't realize that I had the surgery and I ate something.... I wasn't suppose to and got a huge leak, that was when woke up. Oh no! What do I do now? So, talking about it with the support group really helped. The people were so warm and friendly. Unfortunately, when I told Banner that I was going to Scottsdale Healthcare support group meetings they were not happy. I promised that I would attend a Banner support group at least once a month. How I am going to be able to do this, I don't know. It's crunch time. Dec 7 I have an EGD, Dec 12 will be doing my Pre- op labs/EKG etc... Dec 19 will be the education class and I will just need the surgical consent from the primary MD and I can schedule my surgery. Wow. I think I need to see someone to talk about why I am so scared about changing my life, because my life will forever be changed. Is it a fear of the unknown? A fear that I won't be invisable? Fear of change itself? Or, what if I am beautiful? What will happen then? Yep, I need to talk to someone.
