    Hunting with Petunia

From the album: Things I Love

Petunia was a good hunting dog, flushing grouse at just a few months old. Her mother was a black occker spaniel and her father was a black lab. Great all 'round hunting dog, but 4-wheel drive over the old logging trails made her throw up on my new suede gun case! This is an old picture, but will serve as inspiration simply because one of my main goals for losing weight is to be able to hunt again.

    Tuuli Tahti

From the album: Things I Love

Karelian bear dog from Finland. Tuuli Tahti (means windy star, in Fin) is now 8 years old. Karelians are a sptiz breed, an arctic dog whose sense of smell is greater than most other cirtters. They are used for tracking and hunting bear, moose, wild boar (even squirrels!) or even people for search and rescue. They are stubborn, hearty and very intelligent. Tuuli has had one litter of puppies and we still have one of her sons, Taivas Taht (blue star). They both weigh about 70 pounds. Bear dogs are very people-friendly, unlike the Russo-European Laika, which is often confused with the Karelian. They will hunt until they drop from exhaustion unless the game is dispatched quickly, and they never give up.

  10. Finally got the ball rolling again and will soon have the first appointments lined up with the surgeon and for the seminar. They are kind enough to try to schedule as much as possible in one day for those of us who live in very rural areas. That way, we dont' have to take so much time off work to get things done!

    Putting Off Surgery

It looks like I will have to put off surgery for now, in order to save up paid leave time off. The good thing is that the insurance company has offered to put me on the fast-track for the surgery, due to some comorbitities, so I know when the time comes it won't be a problem getting the okay from them. I just had a total knee replacement and had to have a second procedure to get rid of scar tissue, fortunately able to borrow sick leave...which now has to be paid back, of course. Just grateful to have had it. It will be about 9 months before I have enough time built up to have the surgery (barring anything else coming up in the interim). This forum is much appreciated, and I am learning a lot!
