  1. Hi -

My name is Brenda and I am going to my first information meeting next week at Presbyterian' date=' Dallas. (I did have an informal conversation with my general surgeon a few months ago). I am excited and worried about the prospect of such a radical change. I guess my biggest concerns are: how will I deal with depression if I can't use junk food, will I end up with lots of loose skin and what if I go through all of this and it doesn't work (or I gain the weight back). I'm also concerned about the extreme reduction in calories post-op and what that might do to my already low energy level and metabolism. I am very anemic and have low Vitamin B levels which both require supplements - I wonder if GS surgery will worsen these levels.

I have several problems due to my weight: mild hypertension, pre-diabetes (my dad has type II diabetes), hiatal hernia with GERD, arthritis, a heart murmur (my cardiologist says will likely go away with weight loss) and I had to have umbilical hernia surgery last fall.

I believe I owe this to my family - especially my daughter. I want to be around to see the grandchildren I hope to have someday. I want to be able to go out and do things with her without being slow, in pain and possibly embarassing to her.

I would appreciate any advice on if Dr. Davidson at Presby Dallas and his skill level, and also regarding the several concerns I have.

    Thank you in advance -

Hello Brenda... i had my surgery August 23, 2012. Dr Davidson was my surgeon and he is excellent. You are in great hands. I had my concerns and was so nervous the morning of my surgery. He came to speak to me and explained what he would be doing and how i would be feeling when i woke up. He then did a prayer with me and my family. It helped calm me down. I am very pleased with my decision. The first five days were rough but each day got better. Day of surgery i was a size 22 and today i am a size 14. I haven't kept up with exercising but I want to change that. My energy level was low in the beginning but it leveled out now. I feel great.

  2. Jodi....I can't get Dr. Nicholson's clinical dieticians to answer or call me back' date=' it's their number that is in my folder regarding the support group at Forest Park. Sooooooooooo, I called Forest Park directly, and was told NO support group tonight, it's next week.....[/quote']

Couldn't find kevin on here... the guy we were talking to towards the end

  3. Wish i could have made it tonight. If it was on another night would have been perfect. Im in Richardson too. Hopefully i can get to one of the meeting soon and meet some ppl soon.

That would be great. This was my first meeting i went to. I think this meeting wasn't like their typical ones. We introduced ourselves but really didn't have much discussion because they took us to the pharmacy for samples tastings. I think the usual meetings would have more discussion between us and issues we might be having or advice. Just guessing of course since it was my first one.

  4. Hi' date='

I live in Richardson. Let's plan on getting together somewhere. I would like to meet some of my sleeve buddies. Any ideas??? Let's keep this going.

It would be nice to hang out.[/quote']

I just moved from Richardson to garland so still close. I agree it would be nice to all meet up.

  5. I was just fixin' to check when those support groups are held. I'm not up to driving that far yet, I'm in Flower Mound and only 1 week post, but in the near future, we should meet up at one of those at Forest Park.

Sent from my iPhone using VST

    We should..

2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm

The next one is 12/12/12 -- but that still will be too soon for you. Maybe the one is January?

  6. I used Dr. Davidson at Forest Park in Dallas.I started at 381lbs and IM down to 202lbs 9 months post opp! I've been waiting for someone to get a meeting together for dinner or lunch but nothing has done yet.My surgery was 2-17-12.

You have done amazing, I also had Dr. Davidson as well. Do you go to any of the support group meetings at Forest Park? I haven't been to any of them yet but thinking of going. I had my surgery on 8/23/12.

  7. I am having my surgery at Presby Dallas also. Can you tell me how you liked the experience there and any pointers in general for the location? Thank you!!!

Hello Aimee! I had a good experience there at Presby. The nurses were great there and the ones that come in to do your blood pressure were too. They get you walking around about 2 hours after surgery and you feel so nauseas or at least I did. I stayed 2 nights and they brought me my medications on time each time. I didn't have to call to nurse station. I really wanted to go to Forest Park but insurance said Presby but it turned out to be good. There is still a lot of construction around the hospital but if you go to the main enterance the surgery admitting is right there to the right. Their OR is in the basement of the hospital. Any more questions feel free to ask... jodi.battles@gmail.com. The first 5 days were tough but it does get better and I feel great now. Almost there and I think you will like Presby as well.

  8. Hello everyone...I was sleeved 10/23 ! So I'm curious to know how much weight you all have lost ?

Hello attractiveval! -- Garland --- I was sleeved on 8/23/12. I am 12 weeks today. I had my surgery at Presby Dallas. I have lost 42 lbs since surgery day. My highest weight was 314 -- surgery day I was 282 - and today 240.2. I go 3wks without losing then will drop 10 in 2 days. Well that has happened with 20 of the 42 I have lost since then. I went from size 22 to a 16/18 (depends brand). It was rough there in the beginning but now I can't say I really have any complaints. I still have hard time getting my 64oz of Water in but I was never good at that.

  9. I see a lot of us are in the "Dallas" area. I had my surgery 8/23/12 at Presby of Dallas Dr. Davidson. Maybe at some point some of us can meet?? I am 35f and 5'3. My first weigh in was 304 -- Day of surgery 282 -- at 7wks 251. Hate to admit but still haven't worked out.. guess at some point real soon I need to get on that!
