Post Op Octosleevers 2012. Welcome To The Losers Bench!
Once you get to "real" food it gets a bit easier. I find that I have my go-to foods for break lunch and Snacks and then dinner is the variable. It takes a lot of that stress of deciding what to have out.

Post Op Octosleevers 2012. Welcome To The Losers Bench!
How is everybody doing? Just curious to see how my other October sleevers are progressing. Any challenges? Any NSVs? What are you eating? I was sleeved 10/11/12 Starting Weight 278 Day of Surgery 273 (Weigh day tomorrow) - as of last week down 33 pounds 245 I am eating 3 meals (2 ounces of protein and a bit of other stuff, one shake per day) and some days one snack, some days two snacks (a cheese stick or an ounce of turkey pepperoni) I am watching my carbs but not really concerned with my fat. Average about 60 grams protein a day and low 600 calories. Carbs are usually in the 20 - 30 gram range. What about you?

What Are You Eating These Days?
I have been able to tolerate pretty much everything except for beef (other than ground beef). I have a shake in the morning, some type of protein rich lunch (cold cuts, seafood salad, egg & cheese omelet) a cheese stick for a snack and then whatever my family is having for dinner (minus the starch). I have had a bit of sweets (sliver of pumpkin cheese cake on thanksgiving, a bite of fried ice cream when we went out to dinner) but that is about it. I am staying away from bread, pasta and rice during the "honeymoon period." I set my goal of 600 to 800 calories but it is usually low to mid 600's each day. I am walking 30 minutes 3 times a week (should be more, but happy that I am doing anything)

Has Anyone Ever "failed" At This?
Try to go about your life eating this new amendment good for you way and try not to put all you focus on the numbers. It will come off and you have your whole life of good health in front of you.

...........calories?
I am starting my 7th week. I set MyFitnessPal for 800 calories but it is usually in the low 600's. I shoot for at least 60 grams of protein and set my carbs for 60 but it is usually in those 20's or 30's. I have been at the low 600 number since I started "real food" at 4 weeks.

Ok Ladies Level With Me Here ... Gas?
For me it wasn't overly loud or smelly (sorry - couldn't think of a nicer way to say it) but there was a lot of flatuence, a bit of burping. I still have a lot of flatuence and the burping is only when I eat. The farting is really annoying!

Calories, Carbs, Fat, Protein, Oh My!
You are doing great. Are you able to add more foods or are you still on soft or pureed? If you are still on pureed then it will be harder to get all the calories in. When I was on pureed I had 2 shakes a day. Now that I am on anything that I can tolerate I have one shake (or protein coffee/hot chocolate a day). Once you get to "real" food I think you will be able to get your calories in. My NUT told me don't worry about fat at this point, get your protein and your calories in. I eat quite a bit of cheese (some reduced fat, some full fat) and chicken. I am trying to cook for my family and eat the same thing, so it is better for them and I am not making two meals. Today I made our free holiday ham and garlic mashed cauliflower. My family had mashed potatoes and boiled cauliflower. I will have 2 ounces of ham and probably about 1/3 cup cauliflower mashed.

What Are You Eating Tomorrow?
I am 7 weeks out. I plan on having spinach, my mom's stuffing, a little turkey, red cabbage and a sliver of dessert. Afterall, it is Thanksgiving! Then I will get my sister to go for a walk with me! I am having my shake right now and will have a piece of cheese or cheese stick for a snack.

Nectar
I made it with milk - 8 oz. It tasted like an orange smoothie to me. I had the sample packet so I am not sure how much it would be from the big container. I think they do say to your taste so if you think it is too thin you could add more.

Yummy Shakes?
I like Syntrax - most flavors. The strawberry tastes like strawberry milk to me. The double stuffed cookie is yum. I like the fuzzy navel reminds me of an Orange Julius. I like Syntha-6 but I think the carbs is kind of high. I haven't tried their light brand (something like Lean Dessert or something like that). And

What Are U Eating 3-4 Months Out
I have cheese sticks for a snack. I made crustless spinach cheeses in a mini cupcake tin for breakfast or lunch. Tomato and fresh mozzarella, salt, pepper, balsalmic vinegar for lunch. Also can do the same with a portobello mushroom and melt the cheese for dinner. hummus and zucchini sticks for a snack. Turkey pepperoni for a snack. Last night I made dinner for the family and they ate all the chicken before I got to it - so I had the broccoli and stuffing (like a casserole) and added

Sugars Or Carbs?
My NUT said 60 carbs per day - try for no carbs at 3pm. Right now I have cut out all bread, pasta, rice and sweets out of my diet. I figure for the honeymoon stage (5 weeks out) I want to be sure that I am making good choices and building a new lifestyle. I have usually around 20 carbs per day right now.

When Could You Swallow Pills?
I have resumed all my pills (without crushing) with no problem swallowing, except for my fish oil. I agree, I think they are too big. I am five weeks out.

Sorry, Have To Ask... Constipation
I am 5 weeks out and having the same issue. My doctor and NUT suggested 2 stool softeners a day and miralax every 2 days. Also I was taking 1000 Calcium and really only needed 500 so that was "binding" my doctor said to cut out the calcium totally for a short time till things get more regular and then only do the 500. Also drink, drink, drink. My nut also said two bags of fresh spinach a week should do the trick. (I love spinach and it shrinks down to not much so I made spinach quiches to have for breakfasts and am going to make stractiatella (spelling is wrong) Soup this week too. Oh, and coffee sometimes helps But I think it is a problem that a good number of sleevers deal with.

What Vitamins Are You Taking?
2 Celebrate multi, 2 500 Calcet calcium, 2 2000 Vitamin D, 1 5000 Biotin, 1 5000 Fish oil (normally, but not taking right now, hope to add in eventually) I am going to ask my NUT about the B Vitamins tomorrow.
-
Vitamins=Nausea
I hate my Multivitamin. Hate, hate, hate it. Tried the Flintstone's - gross. Trying the Celebrate now - not as gross but gross. The Calcet chocolate calcium is yummy though LOL! I suck on the Celebrate and try not to think about it too much, the gritty, Vitamin taste makes me nauseous too but I am really trying to remember to take it. And these Celebrate are TWO per day. Yuck! I go to the doctor tomorrow so I am going to check with my NUT on what else she may recommend. So I am not much help. But even though sucking on the multi prolongs it, it makes it a bit more palatable.

Slow But Still Exercising
I was sleeved 10/11/12 and started walking the week after surgery. Slowly, leisurely around the block once. After about 2 weeks I picked up the pace and added a little more to the length. Now 4 weeks out I am starting 2 times around the block at a normal pace (not fast and sometimes stopping for the dog LOL) Today it was raining and I wanted to make sure I got in some exercise so I decided I would walk the stairs. I read an article that at my weight 248 I would burn 10 calories per minute. I said I would do 10 minutes but could only do 5 minutes. Afterwards my heart rate was super high (didn't time it) and was coughing quite a bit. When I had my pulmonology appointment before surgery the doctor said he thought I might have a bit of asthma (which I never had before) but after all the coughing I am wondering. I have basically sat at my computer 10 - 12 hours a day, 6 days per week for the last 4 years and had put on a lot of weight and virtually NO EXERCISE. My heart muscle has suffered greatly but I know it will get better as I continue to do what I can. It is embarrassing to be 46 years old and struggle with climbing the stairs but that will change, just like it was embarrassing to only be able to make it around the block once and now I can do two times. I just wanted to share that although my exercise is a pittance compared to what I could do even 5 years ago (used to do zumba 3 days a week and cardio/weight training the other two days), it is still EXERCISE and it is helping me get healthy. I think the rain has cleared out so I think I will get that walk in today too. And now I am going to do my walk each day and add to that five minutes of climbing stairs. 10/11/12 278 11/7/12 248
