  1. Your throat, esophagus, belly and pylori valve (and everything in between) is swollen and sensitive right now. If you take a 2 liter bottle of fluids, take off the cap and up end it. It's going to drain but not without air causes it to "glug". It's normal, so don't get upset.

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

When you work out your body will go into shock. It's important that you get all your fluids in and protein. Once it stabilizes you will see pounds lost again and lots of inches. You might need to up your protein and fluids though. Because you need more protein for your muscles and water too. Never fear...it's going to ebb and flow but you will lose so long as you're not eating the wrong things. Give it a couple more days, keep exercising and drinking your water. Then weigh yourself and let us know how it goes. We are here for you!

    Need Protein Recommendations

I have found that I can tolerate my shakes now for one reason...I make them with egg whites instead of water or milk. I just like them better. I do not just crack eggs into the blender...I buy egg whites that are pasteurized so there's no salmonella issues. And they don't taste like anything but they make the shakes so smooth, no sliminess and the protein dissolves into the whites so nicely. It's just my little trick.

    Two Days Post-Op

You're going to be amazed at how great you feel in a few more days. I went home post-op day 1. I worked hard to be able to but I'm fortunate that my mother was able to take care of me and help me. She's an ICU and also worked as a rehab nurse so she knows how to work with post-op patients. Just walk as much as you can and I am a huge advocate for getting as much fresh air as possible. It truly does wonders for your healing. And get your fluids in as much as you can. Are you taking Vitamins? What ones? And do something nice for yourself. Get a mani, pedi or facial. This is a major thing you just did...time to pamper yourself. Hugs!! It's gonna be ok!!
  10. ...I am down 17.4 lbs, I'm under 300 and my doctor, the nurse and NUT are over the moon about my success. I moved up to puréed for the next 2 weeks. Made broiled haddock as my first dinner. It was so delicious! It's amazing to be able to chew. Very excited. Here is to many more pounds lost in my very near future...cheers!!

I'm allowed to walk, but only cardio until I see my doc a few days before Christmas. I cannot wait to rock my Jillian michaels videos when I'm cleared. And strength training...I love it.

And did I mention its totally permissible to fart and its even encouraged. Walk, walk, walk. You need to get the gas out of your body. It can take up to a month for some to get the gas out. And I'm telling you I can feel it in my upper shoulders today and I'm 6 days out. Gas is no joke.
  18. This is how I survived thus far...6 days post op. just keep and open mind to what I say. I can have broth, Water and Protein shakes. I cannot stomach more than 4 ounces of anything in a 30-60 min timeframe. And those dang Protein Shakes are so hard to get in...they make my belly gurgle something fierce. So since mixing one serving of Protein Powder in half the Fluid volume is just too much...I use only half a serving in 4 ounces of egg whites. It gets me 27 g of protein this way. That's Breakfast. Then twice throughout the day I will have 1/2 cup of broth that I made. I heat it up and add unflavored protein powder to it. Then drink it like my protein shakes. It's about 14 g of protein. Then I end my night with another shake made the same way as breakfast. So I get in a ton of protein each day and I manage 80oz of fluid a day. It works for me. I also take a multi-vit twice per day, 1 chewable Iron, sublingual B12, and 4 Calcium chews per day. It helps with the energy.

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

It's gonna be fine ladies and any gents preparing for surgery this week. I'm a week post-op tomorrow and the difference in just a week is like night and day. Follow the rules. Get up and walk as soon as you can. Even if its just to the bathroom to brush your teeth. Do it. Makes walking easier later. Hold a pillow against your abdomen if you have to cough or move, especially when standing up. Put the foot of your bed as low as possible, your head up high, swing your feet over the side, then use your elbow to push yourself up so that you're sitting on the side of the bed. And don't forget to breathe. Lol. Then rock back and forth, count to three, on three exhale as you stand up. And just stand...get your bearings before you move. Keep hold of that pillow when you try to stand....your incisions will hurt just moving, standing, etc. that helps the pain and helps you feel in control for some reason. And use your spirometer and do your breathing treatments. And just deep breathe, cuz that helps you get the anesthesia from your system. Most of all...use your morphine pump. I did and its what got me the rest I needed.
