    Beer - Ouch

I don't think it is nonsense. I think the reason why any data has come out is based on the fact that the lapband and gastric bypass have been around longer. There is very little data about the long term affects of the sleeve since it is still very new as a means of WLS. Hence why most of the articles are revering to the gastric bypass. However, it is an interesting correlation since many on this site alone have expressed a new found addiction to shopping. And there have been studies about people going from alcoholism to other things, so the argument can be reasonably made to suggest why not WLS too. We have addictions to food, why can there be no transference. All and all, I agree with IrishEyes that they were merely trying to share information with fellow Sleevers and give food for thought (pardon the pun). I know that it will keep me on guard once I get sleeved since alcoholism does run in my family. So I, for one, say thank you.
  5. Awesome job!! You look so happy in your new pic!! Keep it up and I hope we keep getting updates.

    Beer - Ouch

Here are some articles that support why the NUT was trying to caution their WLS patient about the issue of addiction transference. http://www.medicaldaily.com/news/20120611/10250/gastric-bypass-addiction-transfer.htm http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/articles/features/11622-weight-loss-surgery-and-the-new-addiction-part-1-of-2 http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/articles/54-feature/11725-weight-loss-surgery-and-the-new-addiction-part-2-of-2 http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/news/health/after-weight-loss-surgery-some-find-new-addictions-442508/ http://calorielab.com/news/2006/07/18/bariatric-surgery-trades-obesity-for-alcoholism/ Interesting that they are mention this. If we look harder we will see that. And I read "Bariatric Times" and this was covered there as well. I can't figure out how to link it because I subscribe to it as an app on my iPad.
  7. S there anyone with Florida Health Care Plans on here? How long did your approval take to come back once you completed your 16 week Weight Management Program? What doc are you using and hospital? Or if you're sleeved already, how was your approval process experience and how are you doing?
  8. Listen...you're making progress. That's the key. You treat your sleeve right, it will treat you right. And look at it like this...go calculate your new BMI and compare it to the old one. I'm sure it will tell a different story than you think you can't see in the pics. Great job, amazing really. Keep it up and we all expect to see more updates.

    4 Months Out

If you can't see it today, you will one day. Work towards the day that your packaging matches the gift within. You're beautiful and don't let anyone, including yourself, tell you any dang different!! LOL

My Advice To All Newly Post-Op Sleevers...

I've tried P90X and it's crazy tough. One that is tough but is doable for us ladies...Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. Start easy and go at your pace and then repeat the series if you need to. It is crazy fun too. I cannot wait til I drop a few pounds and start it again. I have a very week knee and I am just too heavy for it. But one day I will.

    Plastics With Cigna Insurance

Call again and ask them to send an "explanation of benefits". It should say what it covers and what it doesn't. Along with any stipulations.
  12. Actually 12 step programs did originate from the bible. They're based on the Beatitudes. However, most 12 step programs have attempted to distance themselves from organized religion. Unless of course you're talking about Celebrate Recovery, which is a Christian based recovery program that follows the original 12 step program format.
  13. Thanks for the update. I have been reading that your extra skin will tighten up in time to a degree. But it's hard to be patient.

    Starting Pre-Op Diet Today

Girl, you have a plan, you have the drive...rock it out!! You want babies...keep that foremost in your mind. My psychologist I saw for my eval gave me a couple good ideas to use in my journey. He said to take an index card or something and write down my top 5 reasons for changing my life with this surgery. Don't worry about bing vain or anything because this is for YOU and your eyes only. You need this in order to keep yourself motivated when you feel like it was a bad choice or when you want to make bad food choices, etc. I'm working on mine. And since I'm so out there anyway...I'm going to use a dry erase marker and post them on my bathroom mirror too. Good luck!

    Minor Set Back

Thanks peeps! LOL. Every once in a while I have a good moment. Regardless, my statement is true. Every day we work towards a better us, is a total win.

    Minor Set Back

Glad to hear all is well. The hardest part of exercise is starting. So just have your cannon ball moment and get to walking. Everything you do exercise wise...do it. It's only going to help you. And I know we are here to lose pounds, but so long as I am losing something (pounds, inches, emotional hang ups, etc) then who cares?! Progress is progress regardless of the increment used. Take care of you!!
  17. Define started late? We all have issues with food, diet, life, etc. it's not so much about when you start but that you do. And just know that if you matter to you, you will make it work. No excuses, no failure. Every day will be a win...simply because you are proving to yourself that you are worth it. Begin now. Start small. Pick some post surgical lifestyle changes that you can implement now. If you start making changes now, it's not going to seem anywhere near as overwhelming when you have surgery.

  22. When you feel like this Bean. Post some before and after pics. You can see the difference and get a lot of support in the process. Also...are you tracking your measurements? Even if the scale isn't moving....doesn't mean your body isn't still changing. Hugs. You will get there.

    2 Days Before My Surgery-And I Cheated

Pain is temporary. You're life is changing and it's time to enjoy the process. You will feel better soon. Don't be afraid to take your pain meds as prescribed. Your body needs to heal...toughening through the pain is NOT the way to help your body. Take it easy....good luck!!
