  1. Hey Gustavo I have nothing nasty to say to you! Infact, I appreciate your post. I have actually read many of your past post and appreciate your advice. My point is that it is frustrating to ask a question on these posts and have certain people who feel "you need therapy to deal with YOUR food issues" is a bandaid answer to any question. I have no problem with therapy at all. I just feel judged when that is the advice I get. That's all. I am sorry if I offended you.
  2. I have your same bmi and my doc is only making me do the 7 day liquid. I have also heard of others who can actually have a protien and veggie at dinner during the entire pre-op. I wonder why there are so many different pre-op diets if they are all doing the same thing! I have a work dinner on the 2nd night of my pre-op and am thinking of drinking my protien shake before I go and then just picking at a chicken breast during the dinner to be social and not draw attention to myself.

    Pre-Operative Liquid Diet

Hi Kelly, I am with Dr. Barker on Sept. 17th. I start the liquid diet on the 10th so I am right there with you. I have had a couple questions too about the pre- diet and am looking for ways to get through it! Are you at Forest Park or Doctors Hospital?

    Where Did It Go?

You can look on youtube and they show the actual sleeve surgery and the stomach that is removed being taken out of the incision. It was a very informative video!
  5. I am going to be sleeved on 9/17. I weigh 240 because I regulary overeat to a point of discomfort, make poor food choices and do not exersize enough. I have been on the diet yo-yo with all of you and have lost and gained. During a "diet" a would make better choices, eat smaller portions and move more, after a couple hours, weeks or months of the "diet" I would cave in and quit, to regain anything I had lost. Here is my question.... How is the sleeve going to stop this behavior? I want and need this surgery and I am commited to do what I need to do to be sucessful, but I have been committed on lots of diets to only end up frustrated and end up quiting soon after. I can't have major surgery and fail, seeing everyone do so well is encouranging. Can you tell me what the difference is now post-sleeve? Thank you!
  6. Kids are in school and the surgery is 300 miles away. A quick non-stop 1 hr flight from my home. I would like my husband to stay home with the kids, my surgery is Sept 17 at Forest Park in Dallas and I will be released on Wed. the 19th. Can I do it alone? Thanks for the help!

    First Time Throwing Up...

What does the "restricted" feeling feel like? Is it in your throat or stomach? Does it feel like being full, pre- sleeve? I'm not sleeved yet and trying to prepare myself!
  9. I agree with Dorrie about the sleeve being a tool and there are ways to "ruin" it. The comments about being physically being unable to eat help, I think I need a consequence or physical stop. I also think once I get some initial weight off I will start liking myself and wanting to take care of my body better. Thank you for the help!

    Any September People

I am scheduled for mom sept 17 with dr. Barker in Dallas! I start the pre op diet on sept. 10th. I am so ready! I live about 300 miles from Dallas and think we will drive instead of fly so we can stop, take our time and I can walk? Any thoughts about that? Do you think I will hurt too bad to be in the car? Thanks!

    What Do You Tell People?

I was thinking about not telling people either, but now that I am aware of how I will be eating, I have been recalling lunch meetings with certain skinny friends and wondering if they had wls. After fighting my weight my entire life when I ask someone how they are losing weight, I mean it! I am not asking to get into there personal business, I am asking because I have what I feel to be a "uncontrolled self-inflicted disease" and if someone has found a way that I have not tried and they care about me, they will share it with me.

Bcbsil Ppo Approved In 2 Days!

You are very smart! I pulled the medical policy too and knew I had it that is why the waiting was killing me- worried they would find something I missed but I didn't know how- it was so clear! anyway, I am good now and got approved this afternoon. I didn't wait for a letter, I had them fax me the approval and I emailed it to them! Are you having your surgery at Forest Park? I am using Dr. Barker at Forest Park. I live in Lubbock and he has opened a new office here so we just go there for the surgery and all of the pre and post is here. Thank you for your help!

Bcbs Of Rhode Island....waiting On Approval

On mine they wanted my History and Physical from the surgeon. I called to see if this was something additional I needed to do and they said they already had it so I wondered why they didn't send it in the first place! Maybe it was just a mistake, it only added about 4 days to the process but caused me some anxiety!
  14. The doctors office submitted my info last tuesday to insurance, today (Mon) I called and they have sent a letter requesting from the surgeon my history and physical. Anyone else have experience with this? I am waiting to see if this is something they already have or something I need to go do. Thanks,

    Bcbs Il More Info Needed

Got my approval via telephone and fax today! So happy! I can now move on and to the Pre-op boards and quit calling the poor ladies at BCBS everyday!

Bcbs Of Rhode Island....waiting On Approval

I just called the BCBS and I was approved. This morning when I called a customer service rep. said she would move it to "urgent" and then about 3 hours later I had the approval. I don't know if that helped but probably. I was super nice everytime I called the doctor and the insurance company but anytime one of them had my "ball" in their court, so to speak, I called them everyday. I learned this lesson a couple weeks ago when I thought it had been submitted to insurance so I was calling the insurance and doctors office just to find out who had it to and come to find out the dr. who did my psyc eval never submitted her report- 12 days later! So, the ball was totally dropped. Anyway, poor BCBS can relax now, I will not be calling tomorrow!

Bcbs Of Rhode Island....waiting On Approval

I am right there with you. Mine was sent last Tues. to BCBS IL, They came back on Monday and wanted more paperwork, which they got yesterday. How long should we wait to hear back? I am at a stand still until this is approved. How often have you called them? I don't understand some of the cases who are approved in a 48 hour turn around then cases, like ours, can take a week or two, with more info requests! Why is this wheel turning so slow? and Why isn't this an emergency to everyone else? I don't know!! I hope you hear soon, please keep me posted, as I am impatiently obessing I will be thinking about you and know that I am not alone!

Bcbsil Ppo Approved In 2 Days!

Oh! Please give me more info! Did you do your nut and psyc visit before submitting? I have bcbs il and am waiting to hear back for them!

    Bcbs Il More Info Needed

Thanks for your input everyone. The insurance company said my packet was 17 pages long before the history and physical request. I guess the psyc doc wrote down every word I said! I called today and they have it now. Now I wait again. I just have to be approved. I read the policy back and forth, and looked for a way to disapprove me. I met the requirments. My BMI is 40, I am over 18, I have stopped growing, I am of sound mental mind to make the decision to do this, I do not have another chronic disease that would advise against wls surgery. I have done the psyc and nut visit. What am I missing? If I meet their criteria how can they not?

    Bcbs Il More Info Needed

    Really Discouraged

OMG! 40 pounds in 7 weeks! That is amazing! Congrats- The surgery is not magic and it is coming off fast. It you continue at this rate look at where you will you be in a year! AND you probably didn't gain 40 pounds in 7 weeks- Good job!

I Wonder What Celebrities Are Sleeved?!?

There are two male actors, Seth Rogan and.... I can't remember his name but he was in Moneyball with Brad Pitt, both of these guys lost a lot of weight fast.
  23. Have you tried just contacting the bariatric surgeon that you are going to have do the surgery and have his office guide you threw the process? I started with an informational seminar, met with the MD, and their insurance person and they gave me a check list of things I had to do. It is still a headache of appointments and follow up phone calls but I feel like there is someone who knows what is going on with me. I just called them again this morning and am being submitted to insurance today! I think you said you are an *** and I am on a PPO so I know that is probably the difference but since the bariatric office deals with both everyday they can help you! Don't give up! I won't and good luck! July 21- Seminar and MD Consult July 24- NUT Appt. July 27- sleep Study #1 July 30- Psyc Eval. Aug.3- Sleep Study #2 Aug.7- Submit to Insurance
  24. I have BCBS IL but it is a PPO, and although I am not approved yet I have too read this policy and in Feb 2012 and took our the 6 mo supervised diet. I think you can still have the diet as a requirement if your employer or doc req it.
  25. Hello, I am new! Can you tell me what to expect as far as pre-op testing, insurance and wait times? I do not want to pester my doctors office to death but I feel like I am being forgotten in all the patients they have! Here is my progress to date: 7/21 Seminar & Consult w/ MD 7/24 Meet with NUT 7/27 sleep Study 7/30 Psyc Interview Now what is going on? How long should I wait before I call? I am the most impatient person on the face of the earth! AND what is next? Also, my bmi was right at 40 and I am feeling really motivated to start adjusting to my new life and cutting out Diet Cokes and eating more protien and smaller amounts. Since I already have my start weight recorded am I okay to loose and fall under 40? Thank you!
