Tanya, I'm sorry you are feeling some regret. I was so angry because I've been having pain, nausea (severe) and diarrhea with all of the Protein shakes/powders. At my post op visit the nurse practitioner said, "I don't know what to tel you. You just have to do it." Only an idiot is going to purposely continue to make themselves sick. Luckily, I figured out it was whey and lactose and eliminating them has helped. Each sleeve is different and it sounds like yours is particularly sensitive. With the fluids, does temperature or taste make a difference? I love McDonald's tea and I'm drinking a couple of those a day because they go down so easy. Popsicles are one that I do well with also. As for meats, I am finding that tilapia is my go to source. I don't love fish, but it's light and agrees so well with my sleeve that I am becoming a fan.

I bought Syntrax Nectar, and I loved it pre-op. I also bought Unjury, all flavored, GNC lean shakes, and Isopure. I think I'm now lactose and whey intolerant. I just went out and bought soy Protein and brown rice protein. The soy I tried today and so far no pain, nausea or diarrhea. It's good to be prepared, but you have to be ready to be flexible. You can't predict what your sleeve is going to let you have:).

I have figured out I'm lactose and whey intolerant right now. I bought a soy Protein and a brown rice protein. I had the soy tonight for the first time and I did great. No pain, nausea or diarrhea. Thank God.

I love all the updates. I'm 2 weeks out today. I've lost 13 pounds since surgery and lost 12 pre-op. I'm at 210 now. Yeah! I'm supposed to be on full liquids for 4 weeks but I quit doing it this weekend because.... Since surgery, every time I had a Protein Shake or Protein Powder, I would get terrible stomach pain, nausea and diarrhea. When I told them at my post op visit Friday, the ARNP said, "I don't know what to tell you you just have to do it." Well, I'm 43 and have worked in health care long enough to know that when they are full of s--t, you have to take responsibility for yourself. Clearly my surgeons office does surgery and not aftercare. I did some research and I believe I'm lactose sensitive and whey sensitive now. I started soft foods and feel 100 percent better. I was getting maybe 2 or 3 hundred calories. Today I had about 1000 calories, hit my Protein goal and feel human again. I did go to GNC today and bought brown rice and soy protein. I plan to try those as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep at it. I'm relieved no one said I was going to die imminently:)

Well, I'm 11 days post op. I'm losing fine and I am feeling better every day. BUT, I cannot get the Protein in. I'm struggling to get 25 to 30 grams a day. I wake up feeling great, then I have some protein and start feeling nauseous immediately. My stomach hurts, I suffer around and belch a lot, generally feel like crap and then it goes away. I decide I have to try to get some protein in and the whole process starts over. I went for my follow up at the surgeons office and the nurse practitioner said, "I don't know what to tell you. You just have to do it." Well. That was helpful. I've tried several shakes, Greek yogurt mixed with some Protein Powder, pudding mixed with protein powder, Soups with added powdered milk. I'm at a loss. Am I going to shrivel into a hairless flabby ball bc I'm not getting all my protein in? Is this "normal"? Will it improve? Ack!!!
By the way, thin things with no protein don't upset my stomach. I can drink like a champ, eat Popsicles, and tolerate several types of Soup with little to no problems.
-
Definitely have your friend come. I needed help getting up from time to time. I couldn't bend over either. For one it hurt and the physical therapist said not to. I dropped a Popsicle the first night and just kicked it onto the tile till morning;). Good luck. Your feelings are so normal. I'm 11 days post op and doing well. I just spent 3 hours at the mall doing back to school shopping with my kids. You will do great.

Tanya, you are rocking your sleeve. 46 pounds is a preschooler!!!! I am 9 days out and I feel you. I am not getting my liquids or Protein in. The protein is nasty. However, I don't think you are doing so bad at all. You have some things you can't handle, but you seem to have found some your tummy likes. You stomach has been majorly insulted and it is probably a little ticked off at you:) It will get over it eventually. My doctor says to stop and take a step back if you have trouble with moving forward. Give yourself a break and back off on the solids for a little bit. I can't handle any mild based anything because it sits so heavy and causes me to feel like an Iron fist has grabbed my insides. I am just doing broth based things at this point. It's frustrating, but I think it's got to be normal for many. The meatballs are also super processed and maybe your body doesn't like that part of it. Have you tried fish? Good luck.

Only you know if that's really true or not. I had similar feelings pre-op, as I'm sure many do. However, deep down I knew that I could not stick to a diet on a permanent basis or I already would have lost the weight and kept it off. I am 9 days post-op and I'm so glad that I did this. It has been no picnic, but it's not the worst thing I've gone through, by any stretch. AND, I've lost 21 pounds in 3 weeks (that includes pre-op diet). I feel thinner and for the first time in my life, as I say goodbye to those pounds, I know they are gone for good. Do some soul searching. Your right answer is in there:) Good luck.

I'm 9 days post op. I'm sorry you are feeling hungry. On your full liquid diet can you have yogurt, pudding and cottage cheese? I can. I wouldn't say I feel full, but I'm not hungry either. Sometimes when my family is eating I feel a little pang, but it's emotional. I'm at McDonald's right now and my nephew is in the playland. My sister and he are eating and I sort of want it, but I'm managing with my unsweet tea. Today at Publix I found a Wolfgang Puck Organic butternut squash Soup. It was really good and felt satisfied after I had a small amount. Keep trying different things and good luck. This part won't last forever.

I believe it's H pylori and I don't think it's a big deal. It sounds like your physician has it under control. Don't worry. I would take this as a sign that your doctor knows what she's doing. Good luck!!

Oh!! I was July 23, and I'm in Orlando, where in Florida are you?

Went to my primary care today so I have an official weight.
Highest weight 235.5
Surgery weight 223.5
1 week PO today 214.5
Yeehaw!!! 21 pounds total in 3 weeks and 9 since surgery. Did I mention I love my sleeve?!
I have a feeling there is a stall in my near future;)

Natynat, you will be fine. This is no picnic, but they are prepared. The doc will give you good pain medicine and anti nausea drugs. If the ones they are giving you don't work, they will find something that does. Sending positive thoughts and prayers.

Positive thoughts and prayers newlife. You will do great. Same to all who are going this week. Lanuz, if you have thrush I don't know if I'd wait. I called my doctor and he put me on 7 days of oral meds plus several days of swish and swallow. I started yesterday and today my tongue looks like a horror show. I can't imagine what it would be like if I had waited. Also, to all the people with dark poop. Me too!! I wondered if it was at least in part to old blood, blue dye and iodine. We have ingested so much crap.
Today I drank about 55 ounces. That's my record to date. I got down about 42 grams of Protein. Another record. My mom made her awesome potato Soup (the base is skim milk) and I really enjoyed my coffee cupful. She took most of the potatoes out of mine and then blended it to a thin consistency. It still felt a little heavy, but so good. How's everyone else doing?

I'm 4 days out. I have thrush in my mouth and throat. I'm also having terrible diarrhea. I started meds for it tonight. I am really sore, but I went out and about yesterday and today. My liquids are coming along. I got in about 35 to 40 ounces today. I was able to get in about 30 grams of Protein. That's significantly better than yesterday. I figure as long as I'm improving I will get to the Fluid and protein goals soon. It's just a lot harder than I thought it would be to get anything down. A tablespoon of cottage cheese took 30 to 50 minutes. More than one tiny sip of liquid and I can feel it backing up. I'm just thrilled to be on the other side:). I'm not hungry, which I find so surprising. I hope it lasts.
-
I believe it cannot be uncommon. I got IV antibiotics for the whole time I was in the hospital. That will kill off the good bacteria and allow for the overgrowth of yeast.
-
My throat has been killing me. I finally thought to look at it and it was covered in white blister like things. And I've had horrible diarrhea all day. I called my doctor and he called in a pill plus a swish and swallow and I already feel a little better. My doctor was so nice too. He called me back in less than 5 minutes on a sat evening, said it was no trouble at all and immediately called in the scrips, then texted me to let me know it was done. Love Dr. Jawad. It is thrush. I can't remember who just said they had thrush, but are you taking something for it?

Not all surgeons go to purée quickly. My surgeon has me on clears for a minimum of 3 days and full liquids for a minimum of 1 month. Just follow the recommendations. It's one month of your life and the risks of non compliance don't seem worth it. Your stomach just had a MAJOR insult. Let it rest and heal completely. It's hard, but you can do it!

Thanks Nelliebean. I feel better bc I am exactly 4 days out! I did have to drink a lot of nastiness at the hospital. My body is probably trying to get rid of blue dye and iodine.

Anyone having bad diarrhea. Sorry that's gross. I've had it 5 times in the past hour or two and I'm worried bc I am not drinking enough to keep up with that volume. I don't know what to do.

Cfbarre, sorry to hear that. I hope you will have smooth sailing now. Prayers.

Thanks TamBam. I still can't believe that I have done this. It doesn't feel real. I had a dream last night that I was eating solid foods, which I'm not allowed for another month. I was so relieved to wake up and discover it was just a dream. Anyone else with food dreams? Oh!! I never realized before how many food ads there are! I'm not hungry in the slightest, but when I see an ad, I think, wow, I'd love a piece of pizza;). Awful.

Td, I am so thankful you posted that!!!!! You are the first person besides me who has said that. The doctors office was rude and acted like I was crazy, but I know my body. It was saying no very clearly. How did your doctor respond? My brother told me about the egg Protein and I asked at GNC, but the guy said it was high in cholesterol. Have you had any problems? I may try that too.
