  1. George' date=' I also am very afraid. I am a nurse and see the complications daily. I try to remind myself that the complications of being overweight for the rest of my life are much more scary. My new favorite quote is from Bill Cosby, "Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it." We are in this together <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />[/quote']

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I know the benefits outweigh the risks. And I have heard so many stories how this surgery had changed people's lives in the best ways. I'm just so nervous of the actually surgery. And you are right that the complications of being overweight are far worse. I appreciate the encouragement so much!

  2. George' date=' OK, so now I'm jealous!!!! You can't eat? Swear to goodness, My appetite has been so strong. I've eaten bad things that I haven't even touched in years. I'm nervous and anxious. I have hives from the anxiety so actually sleeping is easy since I have to stay drugged up a bit to control the itching.

I bet you'll get a gazillion responses to this post because I'm sure each and every one of us is experiencing similar feelings.

Isn't it great to know you're (we're) normal? Only a crazy person wouldn't have some fear, doubt or anxiety of some sort. I just wish mine killed my appetite instead .GRRRR![/quote']

thanks :-) that made me laugh. I am trying to stay calm over the next 2 weeks. I'm trying my best to stay calm!

  3. BostonGeorge...of course you're going to have anxiety. It's so totally normal. And yes...I'm starting to get anxious too and mine is not until 11/20. When we all started this process' date=' the surgery was way off in the horizon. But now it's within site. And once we gt on the losers bench, it's going to seem like a whirlwind. It's a long process but its so worth it. We are truly here for you and it's going to be amazing.

Let us know anytime you need support. That's why we're all here.[/quote']

Thank you so much. That means so much to me. I truly appreciate it. I'm trying to get a grip :-)

  4. I literally understand everything you went through, and everything that is going through your mind right now. Like you I have tried every diet out there. I would lose weigh only to gain it back with bonus pounds. Im sure everybody on this site can relate. The way I look at is, If I had not tried every other option then I wouldn't be here. I think medifast is the newest trend. and I don't think it will be successful for long term weight loss. I know the sleeve is not a quick fix. But a tool that will help us if we're willing to put the work in after surgery. I'm going to educate myself. excel use, and take advantage of the support groups. I have debated over and over again if there are any other options other than surgery. In my case, I don't think there is. I'm tired of struggling all the time. Im so ready for a chance at a healthier life

  5. Welcome George' date=' nice to see some men among us. I have had quite a few surgeries, nothing to be afraid of, besides they will give you some nice sedatives beforehand to calm you down. You know what my motto has been for years? "I would rather have surgery than a cold". A cold, you just keep trudging along doing what you have to do and feeling horrible. Surgery, it is socially acceptable to recover.[/quote']

thank you so much for your kind, encouraging words! I really like that motto about the cold :-) I am going to try and stay calm during the next few weeks. I have to realize that I've work so hard for this and it's going to change my life in a good way! Im glad I found this site. People who haven't struggled would never understand

Congratulations on getting your date and making the first step to the new healthier you! thank you so much! I really appreciate it. this is so much to take in. I'm very excited but I'm also nervous. I've never had any surgery before.

  7. Hello fellow november sleevers!! My name is George. I'm 29, I'm being sleeved on 11/05/2012..I am so nervous..But, I'm so tired of consyantly going up and down with my weight..I've been really struggling the last 8 years with this..I feel like my weight robbed me of my 20's..I am looking forward to a new me!! I know it's going to take a lot of hard work on my part. But I am willing..This is the kickstart I need. I plan on meeting with dr's and going to the support groups long after my surgery. I want to change my brain too! I'm glad we have this group and can talk with eachother!!

  8. The same thing happened to me. I just told the guy, I haven't slept on my back my whole life. I literally can not fall asleep that way. They realized after I was staring at the ceiling for 4 hours I was telling the truth. They came in and said, just lay on your side. I was asleep in 5 minutes. I was in and out all night too. The sleep tech said they got enough for a study. I think you'll be fine with yours and not have to go back

  9. It's nothing! I am the biggest baby when it comes to medical procedures and this was a breeze. It actually helped me make the decision that I could handle the sleeve. I'm still pre-op by the way. I have my date next month. If there was one thing I wish somebody told me before I had mine it would be to relax. Just relax. It's literally over so quick. You go in, lay down, they give you some valium through the IV. Then, they lay you on your side, prop a pillow behind you so you remain on your side. Next they give you some oxygen so your comfortable. Then they put a little mouthpiece type thing in your mouth with a hole in the middle. The hole is there so the doc can pass the scope. It's not bothersome at all. Then. when the doctor is ready to start, they give you a pain med. Thats all I remember! It took 15-20 minutes..I remember the doc saying "your all set, everything was fine"..Your alittle groggy after but thats all. My throat was a little sore from the scope, but that was it! You'll do fine!

  10. Hello Boston Sleevers!

My name is George and I'm enrolled in the Mt. Auburn Weight Management Program (Surgical) I have decided to have the sleeve done..I see a lot of people have had their sleeve done at MGH and Beth Israel..Has anybody here had theirs done at Mt Auburn? Or heard anything about Mt Auburns program (good or bad)? My surgery is tentative for October..I'm starting to think I should switch to MGH ;-)
