Coffee
I was told decaf as well, but the last couple of times I mixed some in with my protein shake, my stomach started to hurt, so I've left it alone for a while. If it doesn't bother your tummy, do decaf

I Got The Feeling....
Yes! I had the thought before and after my surgery, but it all is worth it to me when I can finally walk around the grocery store without feeling like I'm going to pass out and I can play an entire game of Kinect Sports with my girls and it's only been 3 almost 4 weeks! Just keep in mind what you are doing this for, my reason was for me but also my children. They are still young and I want to be able to play with them without saying I'm tired and them having a disappointed look on their face.

When Should I Expect To Return To School Post Surgery
Congrats! I am also a college student and it is really dependent on how you feel and if your professors will work with you. I had to withdraw from my classes, because mentally I just couldn't do it with the calorie requirements, and my body is still healing. I had online classes but physically I knew that I did not need to sit at my computer for to long to prevent blood clots, if my classes were on campus, I probably would have tried to stick it out, then I would have had the added benefit of walking.

In Need Of Many Prayers Tonight
I am praying for you and your family, believing that the Lord is more than able and will bless and perform a miracle that will have the doctors scratching their heads. Praying God grant you peace, everything will work out, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Be encouraged :-D

Pain On The Right Side Of Belly Button
I have the same thing of and on. I really noticed it one day I went to take my dog to the vet, came home, went right back out to the video game store, then left there and walked around Meijer grocery shopping for an hour, I figured I had done too much. When I went to bed that night it was gone when I woke up a few hours later to use the bathroom. I think it's normal too I also thought it was weird cause I don't have an incision in that area, mine are just above it.

3 Weeks Out
I am exactly 3 weeks out today too!! I've healed good as well, and I also have had those moments when I thought what in the world was I thinking. Some of my main issues now is figuring out how to fit extra protein into my meals, and wean myself off of crystal light and my soy protein shakes. I start my soft diet tomorrow! I can finally chew my food, but it has to be well done and soft, so I think I'll be sticking to fish and eggs for protein. I have also had some bouts of acid reflux, but I was told to take prilosec, and so far it's helping. Over all I have lost 30lbs from the pre-op diet, I haven't weighed myself yet, but my next appt is on the 15 of November. I know I've lost some weight since because my clothes are a lot looser than they were when I left the hospital. Good luck to you on your journey! :)

Soy Protein
That still bothered me and gave me horrible lactose intolerant symptoms, I'm just really sensitive to it I guess. There's also egg protein, I thought about trying that one too.
-
Soy Protein
I am currently taking soy protein, not by choice though, I am very lactose intolerant, and the whey, just didn't agree with me. I do not like consuming any soy because I found out a while ago it has hormones in it. I say if whey protein sits well on your tummy then go for it. Hope this helps!

Puree Diet...how Much Should I Consume?
Should I purchase a food scale?

Puree Diet...how Much Should I Consume?
Hi all, I am finally in my puree stage, I've been doing well on it, so far I've eaten, hummus, pureed white chicken chili, pureed peaches, and fat- free re-fried beans with fat-free cheese since the 12th of October plus my protein shakes. I average about 75 grams of protein with my shakes alone, but I have been just eating a tablespoon or less of pureed food each time I want to know how much should I eat? Because to day I did about 15 to 20 minutes of low impact exercise, twice today, where I was sweating, but afterward I felt hungry? Is this normal? Am I eating enough?

Whag Are U Craving
I have a craving for the cornbread muffins sitting here in front of me LOL I made them for my children and hubby to go with the white chicken chilli I made for dinner. I pureed me some, and I tell ya, pureed chilli is ok, but chopping it up like that just took all of the fun out of it....I can't wait to make it again and actually chew it, with a nice warm half of a cornbread muffin on the side.

400+ Sleevers?
@ keya yes, I hope I'm off of the BP meds soon too, I'm tired of taking all of these pill+vitamins, it's getting hard to remember to take them. Hope the time goes by quick for you, my surgery was first scheduled for aug 30th but I had to reschedule to sept 27, that was the longest time for me LOL @humnopnop No problem! I didn't think this was something I would do either, I had been back n forth over the course of 6 or 7 years with the decision of WLS in general. The first person to suggest it to me was my obstetrician right after I had my daughter, and I had already lost 30lbs from that. I wanted to kick him in the neck LOL, definite NO then, but as the years progressed and I kept packing on the weight, the idea of going through with it became more of a reality for me, because I thought of all the time I wasted, summers of not going swimming, picnics, the zoo, amusement parks, winters ,no snowball fights or sledding with my children all because I was too ashamed of my appearance and got winded to quickly to really play with them. This is what made me really consider and decide to do this, because I was tired of being over weight, my children have grown so fast, I don't know where the time went, so before they are "too old" to want to run and play or ride bikes, I want this weight off before I miss out on their childhood. Sorry, I've gone on again LOL.

400+ Sleevers?
Hello, I started out at 480 at my per-surgical testing visit on Sept 20th, and I was devastated because I had gained 10lbs doing a "bye-bye bite" to everything since my birthday on the end of August, on top of that my BP was 190/100. After looking at that and the surgery was only a week away, I had to pray and tell myself you gotta stop. That day was the fist day of my pre-op diet, (again) and I knew I had to stick to it because of the liver issue. I was very emotional and furious because my family kept eating McDonadls, Taco Bell, 7-11, and each time would order something I would like. Nevertheless, I stick to my protein shakes, raw veggies, and baked chicken, sugar free everything. Instead of salad dressing I used 0 fat plain Greek yogurt mixed with one of those hidden valley ranch powder packets to add flavor to my salads and protein, as well as tuna. The first few days was ok, but toward the end, I started to get leg cramps, dizziness, lightheaded, and I just wanted to eat one final gigantic burrito from taco bell, but I didn't. The nutritionist did tell me I could eat a banana or a potato to stave of the cramps, I ate just a little bit of both, and that helped. I almost passed out in the shower too the last day but I was on a mission. The day of surgery, I was taken back to be prepped and I was weighed. In 1 week I had jumped down to 453, and my BP was 163/90! I had the surgery on Sept. 27th and the only complication I had was my BP went back up into the 200's. I don't know if that's my body's reaction to surgery or what, because the same thing happened when I had my youngest daughter it was in the 200's after my c-section. After a few days it dropped down back into the 150/80 range and I was released. My doc was a little nervous about releasing me because I was a little dehydrated, so I went home with a picc line in my arm. I was weighed and I was 456. This was the 29th, and even though I didn't want to, I made myself keep sipping liquids all day, all night, because I did NOT want to go back to the hospital. My urine output picked up a lot, and I started having more energy. That Monday, Oct 1st my picc line was removed and I went back on Thursday to have my staples removed. I have six laparoscopic incisions. I also had to have a hiatal hernia repair, My doc said my liver was fine. I was also weighed again and was 461, but I didn't panic because being a woman, hormonal fluctuations cause extra fluid and bloating, also they pumped me with several IV's in the hospital. My BP was 142/79 when I when to my family practice doc, he was so excited LOL. I also monitor my BP on my own, because I am on a lot of BP meds, and one day I took it it was 127/72. Gotta be careful with that and taking the meds. I also home school my children, which made it easier, and my mom kept them for a few days so my husband would not have to drive an hour away back and forth with the kids. The only problem was not having a dog sitter, so hubby still had to drive home to feed her and let her out. I was afraid too, mostly about being under general anesthesia. It wasn't like I thought though, the anesthesiologist was really nice and talked to me before they put the meds in my IV and he told me, now we are putting the meds in, and I started to feel sleepy and the last thing I remember was the anesthesiologist's eyes, and I was thinking wow he has some blue eyes, and the next thing I know I heard some one say my name and say your surgery went fine we are taking you to recovery. That was my experience, I hope I helped you! Pray, Keep researching and make certain you have a good surgeon. Oh I forgot I am between 5'7 and 5'9, I think I lost a few inches because I am so heavy so I can't stand up completely straight. There's like a curve in my back.

Anyone Not Tell Family Or Friends?
I kept mine under my hat too. I discussed it with my husband, then told my mom and cousin at the begining. I didn't tell my in-laws until afterward. I told my sister I was thinking about it and she said that I shouldn't do it, so I didn't say anything else about it to her. My mom told my sister again, and brother after the surgery. I wanted to keep the circle of people small that I told because I didn't know how they were going to react to me having surgery. My cousin has been very supportive, because she is trying to get her surgery done as well, It's nice to have someone so close to talk about this with. My mom and hubby have be awesome too, my mother even opened her home to my dog, even though she's not that fond of them LOL, so my husband wouldn't have to drive an hour away home and back to the hospital. I haven't gotten any really negative responses just yet but I am prepared to defend why I did this if the need arises.

Droopy Inner Thighs.... :-(
OMG STOP!! you are going to make me hurt myself laughing LMBO I have that too, I think deep squats should help that area, the bum bum area as well. I noticed everything after my surgery is drooping lower now, it's only been 10 days for me. I can't wait to be cleared for exercise. It's getting boring walking.

Feeling Floppy And Bloated...
LOL yes I know what you mean, I definitely don't want to sweat and cause anything to get infected. I will stay away from my girdle for a while, I want new ones any way. The washcloth is not to bad actually, but I will try an old tee shirt too. Also, when I got the staples out the nurse completely covered each incision with steri strips. Is this normal? I remember when I got my c-section some years ago, after the staples came out, the doc put steri strips on there so they were evenly spaced apart just enough to prevent any separation of my wound, and to still let air hit it. I was kinda worried about that, do steri strips let the incisions breathe?

Feeling Floppy And Bloated...
Hi Ladies! I was just sleeved on the 27th of September and I have lost 30lbs so far including the pre op preparation. I gained 3 of that back before I left the hospital. I did not receive any compression girdle for my middle so now I feel floppier than I used to in my mid-section. The only thing I have here is a panty girdle and one of those tank top girdles I purchased from the Avenue which I wore before surgery. Should I wear the girdle now? or is it too soon? I REALLLLLY don't like my belly swaying to and fro when I walk, especially at the store. Also, I'm having a boob issue, they are ginormous and cover one incision, I think where they did the hernia repair, I put a washcloth under there to wick away any moisture. How do I give this area so extra ventilation while it's healing LOL. Thanks!

African American Sleevers
You were sleeved on the 26th right? That's the day before mine, It sounds like you either need more fluid or protein or could be a vitamin deficiency. I would call the doc just to be safe, praying for you. Feel better and let us know what the doc says.

Hormonal Cravings - Anyone?
I was sleeved on the 27th of Sept. and my cycle started on the 4th, I did not notice the normal ravenous cravings I have, but a subtle craving for chocolate and salt. I was OK after I had my chocolate protein shake and my chicken broth. I don't know what I will eat to satisfy that in my next food stage LOL

Is This Dehydration? Can I Drink Enough To Hydrate Or...
I agree, monitor how you are feeling and your urine output, and get to the ER if you don't feel better. I almost stayed in the hospital after my surgery extra time because I was a little dehydrated. They also sent me home with a picc line because of that fear. I did not want to stay longer and I wanted the picc line out of my arm so what I started doing in the hospital was drinking vitamin water, sobe water, crystal light, in intervals. Each minute I took a sip, but I didn't know what a sip was so I took a few of the small cups they used to give me my pills in and filled it with whatever I was drinking to 30cc and drank half of that in a minute and then drank the other half in the next minute, and kept filling up the little cup until the whole 20oz bottle was gone. After I could tell what a sip was I just kept counting and drinking and pretty soon my urine output picked up a bit, I was released, and at home I keep vitamin, water, or Fruit 2 O beside my bed because I usually have to go in the middle of the night so before and after I go to the bathroom I take a few sips. Also make sure you aren't taking anything that may be a diuretic, like tea, or for me it was a water pill, so my medication had to be adjusted. Hope this helps and that you feel better

Lactose Intolerant Woes...help 6 Days Out
@Piplula I know now that I cannot tolerate any dairy without gas, the yougurt is giving me gas now, but not as bad as the shake was, and I totally understand what you mean about the explosive diarrhea, LOL I've been there many times on holidays when I just had to have some of my mom's baked mac n cheese. @sue yes I'm finding now that I won't be able to drink those any more, I can't handle the gas, it hurts. I like almond milk, soy milk taste like cardboard to me LOL I can't drink chocolate either, it has to be Almond or Soy @Louise I know what you mean, I really didn't want to go back to soy, definitely don't need the extra hormones. I will wean myself off of this soy after I can eat solid protein again. My lactose intolerance started right after I had my second daughter, I was so upset because I thought I would never be able to eat cereal again. Thanks everyone I found another protein powder, its soy, but at least I can get my protein in. I added 8 oz of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 16 oz of water, and 2 scoops of Naturade chocolate soy powder, some Torani caramel flavored sugar-free syrup, shook it in my blender ball bottle, and happy to say I think I'll be resting easy tonight, no more laps in the hallway at 3am LOL.
