  1. I'm 61. Getting sleeved on 11/12.
  2. Is this anxiety talking or is the "no nail polish" rule reason enough to back out of surgery??? Really, all this extra protein and the biotin have made my nails beautiful and now I have to strip these these puppies of their beautiful color. Boo hoo.
  3. Guelia, Did you call about getting on a cancellation list?
  4. George, OK, so now I'm jealous!!!! You can't eat? Swear to goodness, My appetite has been so strong. I've eaten bad things that I haven't even touched in years. I'm nervous and anxious. I have hives from the anxiety so actually sleeping is easy since I have to stay drugged up a bit to control the itching. I bet you'll get a gazillion responses to this post because I'm sure each and every one of us is experiencing similar feelings. Isn't it great to know you're (we're) normal? Only a crazy person wouldn't have some fear, doubt or anxiety of some sort. I just wish mine killed my appetite instead .GRRRR!
  5. OH my goodness! I'm gone all day and this page is lit with posts. The excitement grows. MY quick replies to all: Welcome Kathy from Youngstown (Toledo here). 20 days to go, Nov,12. I agree we should stay together post op Costco Premium shakes 30 gr. protein 3gr. fat 5 carbs 160 calories 25% MDA of a long list of vitamins And, finally, What, you didn't see my Halloween costume? Hugs to all. Goodnight, sleever friends.
  6. Italy was awesome. My surgery is in 20 days!!! November 12.Just got back from all my pre op testing What do you teach? I miss teaching. I just started subbing a little. LOVE IT!.
  7. Welcome, Guy. This is the best place to find support. Another great place is your surgeon's weight losss support group. I never miss a meeting. Every time I go, I learn so much and I've met such wonderful people. It could be just the thing you need right now,As for your partner leaving, I want to say congratulations. I know that sounds weird but here's my thinking. You decided to have this surgery, which is a big deal mentally, physically and emotionally. If your partner decides to leave just when you are embarking on this life altering journey, that person wasn"t there for you and would have just been in the way, emotionally. You need to surround yourself with people who really care about you. We all deserve to be loved and appreciated. Do not let any negativity fill your heart/soul. I'm guessing that for many of us, that's part of how we got here in the first place. At my last support meeting a psychologist spoke. He said that a typical WLS patient is one who takes care of others first and we need to take care of ourselves first. My new mantra, "take care of me first". Not that easy, but it's time.
  8. Twenty two days!!!!! Who else is having difficulty controling your appetite? I've misbehaved a lot this past week. My nutritionist said it's fairly common to gain weight just before surgery. GRRRR! I don't like it. This morning I decided to try just protein shakes and vitamin water to see if I can reign in this wild appetite. I hope the rest of you are doing well.
  9. I had to go to a costume party this weekend. This is my last Halloween at this size so I decided to embrace it. Here I am.

  11. Welcome to the 11/12 sisterhood of sleevers. I think there are three of us.
  12. My surgery is November 12! Apparently, the staff likes me. They squeezed me in to see the surgeon and bumped up my date. I should have been scheduled for late December but I am traveling to Viet Nam in March and I was so worried that I wouldn't be ready. I go all of the support group meetings. I think that helps.
  13. Marilyn, WELCOME! This is the place to be if you want support, information or just to vent. Are you on a cancellation list? It happens occasionally. Just ask. Again, welcome.
  14. Dexter, they weren't your friends. Your experience confirms for me that I made the correct decision to not tell anyone but the closest friends. I am not telling my siblings or my elderly dad. I've told only my very closest friends who would always supoort me no matter. Dexter, your life will change (for the better) and new people will come into your life. Keep only people who love you. That's what we all deserve. Your former friends made a poor decision when they quit on you. Too bad for them. Hold your head up and be proud that you've taken a major step toward health and happiness.
  15. Hello sleeve sister! I am the 12th as well (10:45 to be exact). I live near Toledo. Two dogs. Grown kids. One lives in Victorian Village (Cbus). I'm getting excited!
  16. George, you will be just fine. Most of us have at least had kids so we've dealt with the temporary pain thing. Just think, George, you are giving birth to a new you! A new lease on life!! We will all be cheering and praying for you. Your November Sleevers family will be with you in spirit and can't wait to hear how you do. I will be sleeved on the 12th, just a week after you. Please post how you are doing before I go in.
  17. I'm 11/12 too. 10:45 at Toledo Hospital, to be exact. Not that I'm excited or anything! Dr. White is a genius, according to other sleevers but I almost wish I was doing this in Mexico because Ohio is already just too cold.
  18. My pre op testing is 10/23. Today I researched abdominal binders. I've read that they help with pain the first week. I've been eating poorly since Thursday evening. Starting over tomorrow on low carbs and high protein. I love how I feel after a few days of no carbs. Not so hungry. And this high protein eating has made my nails grow like crazy. I love it. I decided that when/if I reach a normal weight I'm going to treat myself to a nice ring. Getting excited.
  19. Wow. I'm not the only mature (age, not attitude) getting sleeved in November. YAY! 61 and counting this as my rebirth as well. I have a good 25 to 30 years of active living left and I (you too) am going to live them healthier and thinner than the last 25 years!
  20. Hello November Sleevers. My name is Christina. My sleeve date is 11/12. I feel like I might be older than most at 61. I am pretty nervous, yet excited. I've chosen not to tell most people, except for my closest friends and family. Not telling my elderly dad. He'd be so supset and worried. Like alot of you, I am a WW failure, also I flunked HCG, HMR(hospital supervised with their shakes and food), cabbage soup, slimfast, sensa, juicing (I like juicing) Atkins, sparkpeople.com. You name it, I tried it. It didn't work. Before kids, I was a runner (40 miles a week),118 lbs. no diet needed. I added maybe 10 pounds a year after kids. I want it gone, I want to be in control of my weight, I want to have the desire and ability to exercise regulaly. I want to not hide from cameras. I want to walk in a room without scanning it to see if I am the fattest person in the room. I want this to work. I get it that it's just a tool. I am willing and able to follow the rules so this tool should work. I hope so.
  21. November 12 ! The countdown begins. I am happy to have some November sisters! Scared, happy, anxious.
  22. I recently got back from a two week tour of Italy. I probably walked a good five miles a day. Lots of steps and hilly terrain. When I got back, I helped my daughter load and unload a moving van. She took a new job as an ICU nurse in a city a few hous away. I got to drive the truck!!! At 4'11'' getting in the truck was a challange, but driving it was so much fun. This week I am taking it easy, just trying to play catch up at home. Back to the gym next week.
  23. I am November 12. Today I bought vanilla and chocolate protein shakes from Costco and a bag of chewable calcium. I am trying to do two shakes a day and one regular meal just to start training my brain. I found a lot of clothes in my closets that may fit in twenty pounds and hung them up. I take turns being really excited and really scared. There's not a word for excited and scared. Maybe "scacited" would work! How about you?
  24. My date is November 12 as well! I never thought of losing weight before surgery as the last I'll see of it. What a great way to think! I am getting nervous, but I won't look back. My family just got back from two weeks in Italy. OMG, those pictures are horrible. I do not want to spend the rest of my life being ashamed and humiliated by my size. I,m not worried about the Protein. I found Costco's Premium Protein Drinks with 30 (or maybe 27..can't remember) grams of protein and I like them alot. For hair loss, I am being proactive. I started taking Biotin twice a day last week. I figured it makes more sense than to wait for a problem. After surgery I plan on doing hot oil treatments every week or two. I've been drinking zero Vitamin Water as well as taking my Vitamins now. If I don't get low on vitamins and nutrients, stay hydrated and keep my protein up, I am hoping for fewer problems. Please keep in touch. I hope we both do well.
