  1. Do not buy a lot of things before surgery. I did not believe that your taste changes and I bought a ton of protein drinks, powders, soups, flavored drinks and Crystal light. I have a whole big box of things that I will never use. I cannot stand the taste of any ready to drink protein. The only powdered protein in choc/ vanilla I can drink is Unjury, and that is starting to be nasty tasting to me. Only buy one or two samples to try, do not buy huge cans of protein powders. They are costly and you may hate the flavor later. I really do recommend Unjury chicken soup protein. It has been my protein of choice since surgery. I am three months out now and still use it daily. I add it into homemade soup, grits, and other foods for my protein. If you buy Isopure for the clear stage, just get a couple of bottles. I only drank one bottle in three days but other people really seemed to like the stuff. I used the little chicken stock packets that you can find at Walmart, they have good flavor and are easy to take with you in your purse. You just add them to hot water. Your taste buds really go through changes after surgery, things I used to love, I do not like at all now.
  2. I just get lite juice, all juice has natural sugars. Mr surgeon said that sugar juice was ok right after surgery. If you are not able to eat much, I do not think that juice with sugar would hurt, it gives you some carbs to help your body keep going. Lite juices taste better to me, I am not normally a juice drinker so they are very sweet. I have to water mine down now, cannot take the sweetness of anything right now. Just drink as much as possible ( SIP), you need to stay hydrated. Hope you are feeling better!
  3. I went to speak to my PCP about my surgery in MX. I was self pay and chose to go to Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras. My PCP was very gratuitous about me having the surgery. He has watched my weight go up and down for years. I tell everyone about my great experience and if you need the surgery, do not feel bad about crossing the border to have it done. Pick your surgeon carefully and you will do great. check out Endobariatrics.com. If you Dr. Says he will not continue to care for you after surgery, find another Dr.

Food For Family, Etc After Wls

Most boys love frozen meals, so go to Sam' or Costco and stock up for about 2-3 weeks of meals for them. Put back some cash so they can have a couple of meals out during that time. My son lived off of frozen chicken strips through most of high school, by his choice. You can also make up taco meat and burrito filling, they love that too. Chili is good, they can make frito chili pie by themselves. Sand which meats, cheeses and bread with a salad. They will survive for a few days while you heal and get your rest.
  6. Take it when you can get it. Next year you will look back and say it was the best Christmas gift you could give yourself! Glad it is working out for you!
  7. I was told to chase any yucky tasting meds with grape juice. That is the first drink we got in the hospital and it was so good. Are you needing to swallow pills? I would call the Dr and ask for liquid meds, you should probably not take pills yet. I got very sick about 4 weeks after my surgery and had to take 2 rounds of liquid antibiotics. I am so sorry you are sick. You will feel better once you get over the strep, it takes time for our bodies to heal since we are not eating enough calories right after surgery. Get better very quickly!!

    August Sleevers..what Is The Progress

I am still waiting for the energy boost too. I have not gotten it yet. I do feel better but I still wear out pretty quickly. I think it has to do with calorie consumption, mine is still very low so I have no energy most of the time.
  10. I used Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras. He is located just across the border from Eagle Pass, TX. He is a really great surgeon. Endobariatrics.com is where you find his info. He is in a hospital, does only 3 surgeries max each day and has a really good staff.

    Another Water Mx Water ?

Mine were glued and I took 2 showers and have had my incisions heal perfectly. My surgeon used a brown stuff on my skin, he said not to scrub it off, it killed bacteria for several days.

    How Many Times Did You...

I never really feared my surgery. I guess I knew it was my oportunity to get the weight off once and for all. Once my surgeon walked in the room to meet with me, I was totally at ease, I was ready! Best thing I have done for myself and my health!

    Sipping Water

I use a straw daily but it does not bother me, I started about 4 weeks out because I drink more with a straw. I fight the battle daily to get in enough fluids. If you feel like it bothers you do not use one. I know lots of nutritionists say NO.

    Costa Rica

I had surgery in Mexico and never felt unsafe at all. Crossing the border was easy, you stop for the guard to view your passport and move on. The hospital was safe, I walked to a restaurant with my husband and sleeve sister, had no issues at all. Piedras Negras is a safe place, safer than most large US cities. Watch your local news any day and hear about the violence that goes on here, it is not just in Mexico.
  17. That is really great for you , but muffintop did not have such a great experience. She told her story and that is what I responded to. She paid the same $ that other patients did but did not have a truly good experience. That is really too bad. I am sure she read lots of good reviews and expected that to be her experience also. It is a bad deal when Dr's and staff are stressed out or over worked and the patients get a not as expected kind of surgery experience. We all go into this hoping for a great experience and when yours is not so great, you have the right to tell your story. Those that are planning to use these surgeons need to know what to expect if they choose to go with them for surgery. You may get lucky and be treated great or you may not be so lucky. I am glad that she was brave enough to tell her experience. I know that I would have been upset if I had read hundreds of good reviews about my surgeon and then had a terrible experience. We all want to be treated like we matter to the Dr. And staff that we are entrusting with our life. Good luck to you, muffintop, I hope that you are healing well and that your weight loss is going great!
  18. I think you are doing great. We can't compare our weight loss to others, all of our bodies work differently. I am 3 months out tomorrow and down 32 pounds. It has been very slow for me lately. We will reach the goals we have, it just takes time
  19. Reading your story makes me feel bad for you. I went with another Mexico surgeon and had a really great surgery experience. I feel bad that people are made to wait all day to get in to surgery. I was sleeved about 10:30 Am and I was # 3 for him that morning. The less expensive surgeons must be so busy that they tend to forget about each individual person in their care. I am glad that you are doing well and that everything went well in your actual surgery.

    Stupid Candy!

I had a mini pack of M&M's from the leftovers but I try not to let the guilt get to me. I know last year I probably had 10 treats while I was passing out candy and more the next day, week and month. We are working on breaking a lifetime of bad eating habits. I have no bad reactions to sugar so I have to tell myself that one small treat is OK, just cannot make it a habit. I know that through the rest of my life, I will have to remind myself that. :0

    I Am Not Losing!

Hide the scale if you need to! I was there just a month ago but I am determined to stay off the scale. I am a really slow loser too, that is just how my body works. Do not compare YOU to anyone else. You will lose the weight at your own pace. I tell my self that every week before I step onto the scale. The surgery will work for us!
  22. You go through times like that, it seems like it is a bother to eat only two or three bites and it does not even taste good. I hated those days! It really gets better, in two weeks you will be eating a couple of bites more and things will get better. This journey really is "one day at a time", especially for the first two months. It really gets better each week hang in there!

My Day Is Nov 5Th Yayyyyy!

Congrats to all of you! I remember how excited I was in the days my surgery! I hope that all of you have a great surgery experience. In the first days after surgery you may question your reasons for doing it, but in time, things get SO much better. Take it one day at a time. I wish all of you the best!
  24. So happy to read that you are getting some help, I pray that this Dr. can find the source of the problem so you can feel better!
