Sleeved July 2Nd - My Story

I would call my Dr. If I had anything like chills or cold sweats, that could be sign of an infection starting. I have not had my surgery yet but my surgeon says that some people do have bleeding in their sleeve after surgery. He says blood in the sleeve will either come up or go down so you may vomit blood or have bloody stools. How long that will last, I do not know. If it lasts for several days, I don't think it would be normal. I would call the surgeon and ask them to put your mind at rest.

    Dr Alveraz

Lots of people say Gas-X strips (for stomach gas) and for the surgery gas, I think walking, maybe a heat pad would help, not sure about that though.
  7. Dr. Alvarez has several Youtube videos about the surgery and he also has lots of questions that he answers in the videos. I believe we all choose our surgeons for personal reasons. I chose not to go to a Dr in Tj and I will not cross the border at Juarez, I have personal reasons for that. You have to do your research and choose the Dr that you feel comfortable with. For me, that is Dr Alvarez. I feel safe crossing the border at Eagle Pass, TX plus that is a shorter flight for me to fly home after the surgery is done. My hubby is traveling with me, my kids would not let me travel for surgery alone, neither would he. I would not want to fly alone 3 days after surgery either. Get all the info you can before you make your choice, the good, the bad and the indifferent. Make up your mind based on what you research about each of them. I believe that most Dr's use the 5 small incision method for this surgery. There is a new spider method but very few Dr's do it yet. After a few years, my scars from my gall bladder surgery have basically disappeared. I wish I could say the same for the stretch marks from my two pregnancies! Our bodies heal at different rates and our pain levels are all different. Some people have very little pain others have more. I would say if you have a higher pain tolerance than you may breeze right through this. Pain of healing in the stomach probably will be around for a few weeks, it takes our bodies about 6 weeks to fully heal. I have heard many people say that the second and third week you are very tired and sluggish, that is from the healing process and not having food to eat. I own a business with my hubby so I hope that I can go in and work each morning and then come home in the afternoon to rest for a bit. I plan to take a full week off, just to rest, after we get back home. I wish you much luck with your decision process.
  8. Seriously check out each of the top Mexican Dr's. Alvarez, Aceves, Kelly, and there are others. Read the boards, Google their names and read as much as you can from former patients. I even talked to people on the phone after I chose to go with Alvarez. Some Dr's put you in a house with nursing staff and many other patients after surgery, they don't keep you in a hospital. I prefer the hospital route, just to be safe. Some do several surgeries per day, Alvarez does 2, MAYBE 3, per day. I liked that fact because they can take their time in the OR plus have more time with you bedside. In the end, you have to have do your research and weigh the options. Go with your instinct, you will know in your heart which one meets your needs.

    So Anxious

Sometimes we have to experience pain to know how good we feel once it is gone. I am still waiting for my sleeve on Aug. 2, so I have not felt the pain yet. I have had two c-sections and my gall bladder removed so I understand pain. I have found that days 3 and 4 are the worst as far as incision pain. The gas pain does hurt after abdominal surgery, walking the halls in the hospital helps that. Once our bodies heal and the weight begins to come off, we will look back and say it was not that bad

Yes, I used to think surgery was the easy route also. After years of struggling with my weight and health, I know this is the tool that I need to lose the weight for the last time. I understand that some days will be tough. I struggle with sweets and carbs, but I will not allow them to be a part of my daily life any longer. I am sure that I will struggle to get used to water and protein but I am determined to do it. I will win the battle. As will you. We are making a choice to change/ save our lives.

    Husbands

I agree with this. I thik if we are not careful that our spouse can feel we are starting over and they will be left behind. Marriage truly is hard work, I have been married for 29 years and I have to take time to make it special. Our lives are busy and somedays we lose track of what truly is important. IF you love him and want your marriage to work out, reach out to him NOW. Let him know you care and he is important. Let him know that you need him and want your relationship to be special. Most men do not feel loved unless they feel appreciated. Sometimes we have to work at that He probably is also a bit depressed since you have gone through a major life change and he does not have family or friends in the new location. You are probably everything to him and he feels another change is coming. I hope that you can get it worked out.

    Dr Alveraz

Crazy question here......The gas pain, is it from the gas pumped in while the surgery is performed? I see lots of folks post about Gas-X but how does it work for that type of gas? I can't understand how it would help with gas that is not actually in your stomach. I hate acid reflux or heartburn, I hope that I don't have that after surgery. or vomiting

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I downloaded the app to my phone but I probably won't use it until after surgery. I am really not very good at doing things like that but I have to get it in my head to start

    Where are the 50s ???

vhoke1~ That has to be miserable. I hope that you feel much better very quickly!
  20. I am partial to Dr. Alvarez but choose the Dr. that yuou feel most comfortable with. I did alot of research, called Dr. Aceves and spoke to his coordinator also. I chose Dr. Alvarez for lots of reasons (one of the biggies was his location). Closer to home and I felt more comfortable with that. Plus, he has great feedback, very hard to find anything negative about him. He has done several people that have YouTube videos that traveled alone and no problems at all. My hubby is my travel partner and I know he will be well cared for too. I always belive that you have to go with your gut instinct. Mine usually never fails me.

    3 Down, 2 To Go :)

Yeah for you It is great once you have the date set . Helps it to seem real.
  22. I get really nervous if I THINK about the actual surgery. I try not to dwell on that part, hopefully it won't get worse as the day gets closer. I have never met my surgeon yet but I trust the people I have talked to about him and his good reviews. I know he is a great doctor and he will do his best on me. My husband has told me that he gets scared for me SO I try to be strong and not show concern. I don't want him stressing over my stress. The morning of the actual surgery I am sure that I will be a nervous mess!
