  1. I just realized that I'm only 3 weeks into sleevedom and I've already lost a quarter of my excess weight and the inches are flying off. Best part is that I have SOOOO much energy. My toddler wakes me up around 5:30am and I'm up' date=' moving about, walking 3-4 miles daily and living like a normal high energy person chasing a mini Tasmanian Devil until I pass out around 11pm. I am easily meeting my daily Protein and liquid goals. Life is good.

Since I am a self-professed datawhore, I've been diligently tracking all my stats including measurements weekly since Jan 22nd, a week before my surgery. If you're curious or nosy (or both) - here they are: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtW90JQQyIegdG1wZFpQemNDZTkxR1lodDRzdnoyaEE. Sleevie-poo, I think I love you already.[/quote']

Great job Roxanne! I'm at Methodist today. Should get discharged tomorrow. I get pain in my chest if I drink too fast also. It's encouraging to hear about your progress.

  2. So far' date=' the only issue I have is a serious pain on the right side w/ one incision. No major problems w/ gas or sleeping/lying on either side. I'm gonna try some soft food tonight to see what happens. But I slowly added some foods back and it hasn't bothered me at all eating and getting Protein in. Thankful for that! I've been diligent about getting fluids in so we'll see what happens tonight.

Did anyone else have a sharp pain on their right side from their incision/ There is no way you can turn or move that you don't feel that particular site. i don't think it's an infection since my temp has been the same for day's now and the incision itself isn't open, no Fluid of any kind coming out. Just curious as to what it is, if anyone else has had this and how long it lasted?[/quote']

I have major pain on my right too. It is from where my surgeon used multiple tools. It's normal.

  3. Ok y'all!! Its official' date=' today is the day. I cant believe im doing this, but i know its necessary. So many efforts to lose weight in the past, and no maintenance. Im looking forward to a new healthier me, minus the discomfort. Please say a prayer for all of us sleevers today, as im sure we will be doing the same for your entire journey.

I will keep u all posted on whats gng on throughout the eve, if i'm up to it. Surgery is scheduled for 2pm.[/quote']

Good luck. Wishing you a smooth recovery.

  4. I am to be sleeved next week and am on the pre op diet. Let me tell you I have been hungry! A few nights ago I felt a little acid (heartburn) I dismissed it because I am certainly not eating any of the trigger foods that cause reflux. Well last night I felt it again so I took 20 mg of Famotide (sp?) and poof, this morning- not hungry. Anyway here is what I learned, acid make us pre-ops hungry too. I have had heartburn once a week or so for years. Since it wasn't daily, I took an anti-acid as needed and dismissed it. Now I wonder how much of my insatiably over the years was really uncontrolled acid production. That said acid didn't make me over 250 lbs but I think it contributed. As I go down this journey, I am grateful at the self-awareness this process facilitates.

  5. My surgery is Wed. too and a leak is my fear. Yes, people on here have had leak (Sannah, Iggy, etc). If you have not read the complications thread, do so. Also do a search on the topic. Leaks are rare but they do happen and they are very serious. Good luck on Wednesday.

  6. Before getting approved, I used my fitness pal to track calories to about 1200-1300 a day. Over time I lost about 14 lbs. I also walked. I loosely followed the Body 4 Life plan that uses Portion Control of a lean Protein the size of the palm of your hand, carb/starch the size of your fist, and veggies the size/ length of your open hand. With my plan, I had one free day (usually Saturday) to eat whatever I wanted (usually cheetos!) when on plan to feel full at dinner, I always added a second veggie and/ or salad. I ate a protien bar or shake for breakfast and again for a snack. I am on my pre-op diet now and don't think I could have done Atkins or any other extremely low-carb diet- cause this is killing me! Lol. Plus my nutritionist is all about a balanced diet with all food groups included. Good luck you can do it!

  7. I haven't read all the responses but just wanted to temper the tone that I sometimes detect when others respond with honesty's the best policy in these threads. If you've been upfront and recieved nothing but support- realize that you are lucky. My DH is against this and fills my head with so much negativity that I have stopped talking to him about it. Also, I work for a company with a lot of cattiness, judgement, and gossip. Even thought it is illegal, upper management has already talked to my immediate supervisor questioning my surgery, e.g. what am I doing? Why do I need to do this now? They want to know what surgery I'm having since it is elective. Just to be clear, none of them have asked me if I am going to be okay or wished me a speedy recovery. They are simply concerned with making quota. My supervisor has respected my privacy but he is a talker so I've hinted that it's hernia surgery (I do have a hiatal hernia) just in case he can't help himself or they pressure him more. My only point is that I choose not to tell people because even though it is illegal, people can suffer from retaliation in the workplace and judgement at home. Ok off my soapbox now. :)

  8. I am on day 3 of the liquid diet and yesterday was hard. Here's what has helped me:

Stay ahead of your hunger, don't wait until your dying or you'll never feel satisfied. For me this meant eating something (a shake, sf pudding, whatever) every 1-3 hours.

Keep busy. I was lazing around the house yesterday and so food was all that I could think about!

Drink Water but wait at least 30 minutes after eating. Sleeve rules about no eating and drinking seem to help me stay satisfied longer.

Focus on the skinny. I weighed myself this morning and am already down 3 pounds! I've also been browsing the Victoria's Secret website to try and stay motivated. Also someone posted pics of a normal liver and a fatty liver. That was motivating too; I don't want that gross fatty liver inside me!

Good luck! We CAN do this!

  9. My guy doesn't support my decision either so I've simply stopped discussing it with him. I have turned to my parents for support and am flying them out to help me with my recovery. That way I am not surrounded by negativity. If you are certain in your decision than you said it best, you think it's right for you. That's what matters. I'm sorry to hear that you believe this could end your marriage but I think what could be worse is staying in a marriage with someone you resent. For me, if I let my DH stop me from doing what I need to do, I would resent him. Good luck in whatever you decide.

  10. Ok so I am starting my pre-op diet and like other posters have said before me, it is hell! Even in the past when I only do one or two shakes a day to try and cut down on my eating-- I am hungry. Starting tomorrow, I'm limited to 4 Protein Shakes a day and a few servings of SF Jello and the like. I don't want to cheat. I have a couple of appetite suppressant bottles from other failed diet attempts. They do work to suppress my appetite (hoodia extract). Would it hurt to take a few to get through the first 3-5 days? I've heard that most people say the first several days are the worst and I want to be successful.

  11. A lot of successful sleevers got to WLS for the same reason as you describe. You may though want to do a search on "slider" foods. Slider foods sound a lot like what you are eating now, highly processed convienence foods. Many sleevers have no problem eating slider foods several months after surgery. Slider foods are called that since they do not cause the same restriction as healthy food choices. Overall. I'm a volume eater who at times also sometimes makes bad food choices. That's why I choose the sleeve, it will in the beginning limit my ability to do either and hopefully help me learn new lifestyle habits. There are healthy no cook or low cook choices like precooked chicken breasts, etc and in the end that's what our success comes down to, our choices. Best of luck in you journey.

  12. I think sometimes the passive aggressie behaviors like this are really their way of expressing their fears/concerns for us. My guy is not onboard with my surgery and so I could totally see him doing something like that. I know he's doing it out of fear and concern but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with! Make your plans without him. Hire a sitter to come over, find friends the kids can bunk with, whatever. As another poster said, do what you gotta do. Eventually when you are a lighter version of yourself he will either turn out to be your newest cheerleader or maybe he'll show he's not the one for you.

  13. Just deciding to have surgery is a hard decision, let alone all the other factors we must weight: location, cost, reputation, etc. For me, I cannot put a price on my health. I simply had to take it out of the equation. I have been blessed to have my insurance approve me however I had been in contact with a Mexico surgeon that I felt was one of the best and who happens to be one of the most expensive. I believe this surgery will improve my quality of life and when I lose weight and have more energy, I figured I could always earn more money. :)
