Admitting your biggest weight loss fail ever!
erp replied to magicianbeautician74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If we are talking crazy diets, then mine was the "Hollywood" juice diet. -
I bought a sample pack from unjury. It was a good way to try a few flavors without the commitment. I also bought some ready to drink Protein drinks so that I didn't have to prep anything the first few days. Buying one basic vanilla or unflavored powder is a fairly safe bet since you can flavor it with everything from cocoa powder to Crystal Light.

When are you going to stop losing weight?
erp replied to BrittneyMarie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 5'2, 195lbs day of surgery. 5 weeks out and 165. Will I lose more or stay around the weight? My goal is a nice healthy 145lbs. Sent from my KFJWI using the BariatricPal App Given how recent your surgery was, I would suspect that you will continue to lose weight. At 5'2" weighting less than 145 would be considered healthy. -
I need some good come backs

At some point they will all start coming up and directly asking, so indeed have what answer you want at the ready. For me, I opted not to disclose but told one person I know who I love dearly but can be a bit of a blabber mouth in the office that I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia (true) and that I was having surgery(true) I just left the gastrectomy part off. The hernia story got around the office but of course with massive weight loss a bunch of people still gossiped about me having a gastric bypass. When I was asked what I was doing to lose weight, I told people what I was comfortable sharing (and that was true) I was working with a registered dietitian, exercising with a personal trainer, attending a weight loss support group, and doing anything and everything possible to lose weight. That answer seemed to satisfy people. I do understand the concept of lying by omission and am definitely guilty of it but I choose not to overtly lie to anyone. Do what feels right for you. -
I did that one the year before last, love it because it can be converted into Renaissance or another theme pretty easily. This year, I'm going 60's style Uhura with the knee high black boots. Hubby got the gold Capt. Kirk shirt.

David's has $99.00 and up sales fairly often and Alfred Angelo does sales a few times a year., which can help major alterations be more affordable. Wedding dresses as well as designer clothes are not vanity sized. In general expect a wedding dress to be 1-2 sizes larger than your current street size. For example, my street size is a 4 or 6, my wedding dress was an 8. If indeed your wedding is in February, it is way too soon to try and guess what size you will be by then at 10 months out.

Need a buddy/mentor please :)
erp replied to Dana Hardin Cook's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is so hard the first few weeks. I remember watching the Food Network while at home recovering the first week post op and feeling so sad and sorry for myself like I would never get to eat again. I'm glad each week is getting a little easier and so proud that are following your plan and not using food or alcohol to deal with things. That is an emotional challenge for us all and where the saying on here that "they operate on our bellies and not our brains" comes from as we all learn to deal with our emotions. Following the post op plan/guidelines helped me a lot the first few months because it kept me focused. I kept a whiteboard to track my water and vitamins early on. Keep up the good work! -

A PM is a private message, like an email to one person versus a thread like this that everyone can read. You can ask specific questions on this thread and I and anyone else reading it can reply. In a PM only the person you send it to can reply. How are you doing so far? -
I liked the taste, I got the blueberry flavor and it reminded me of yogurt.

Loose track pants and a sweatshirt was as fancy as I went home in. Nothing tight on waist is my recommendation.

Congratulations on your wedding! Without knowing how soon your wedding is, it's hard to answer. So while it's not ideal, I would recommend buying a dress off the rack one size down no more than 1-2 months before the wedding. I would also look at Rent the Runway or similar since this isn't a dress that will ever fit you again, why bother buying it?

Kaiser Sacramento PCP won't consider referring me for WLS

If you do not end up having apnea, you need to read what Sutter's requirements are or you may not qualify with them either. My program required a BMI of 40. -
If I knew then what I know now-

I would have sought treatment preop for disordered eating. -
Flintstones complete tablets with iron (purple bottle), no gummies. I took liquid calcium citrate and chewable tablets for the first year, I didn't like swallowing pills. I was also given a prescription Vit D because I'm deficient.

I started with basic body weight moves: air squats, walking lunges, push ups, planks, etc. I slowly upped my reps and duration. For example, a push up could start at an angle against a wall and then keep increasing the angle until you are able to do one on your knees on the floor. From there the goal is to do them on your toes versus your knees. This progression could take several months. As exciting as pumping iron sounds, lifting ourselves is usually the easiest place to start.

Have you discussed with your surgeon? Based on your current food preferences, mine would have likely suggested bypass due to the ill effects that can happen when you overdo sugar.
-
Were you instructed to stay off coffe pre-op as well? I've already given up everything else, so having to not have morning coffee is cruel, lolYes, it was recommended by my program that we ween off coffee preop too.
-
Depends on my goal. I use caffeine including coffee form as an appetite suppressant. On those days, 1-5 cups can happen. When not dieting, I drink 0-2 cups a day.

Has anyone made the mistake of eating solid food to early?
erp replied to sandy_p's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Solid food? No didn't try but puréed foods? Yes. I think I tried a few bites of sugar/fat free pudding a day earlier than scheduled. Please just make that chicken your last bite until cleared by your program. -
Methodist Hospital in Elk Grove has a good support group that is open to all.

Congratulations! Well done! -
Salad looks voluminous but crunches down small when you chew well so getting in a bit more volume visually than you are used to seeing on a plate makes sense but in No Way should lettuce be called a slider food. That just isn't the definition of the 'slider' concept and if you weight your lettuce, then you can see that you are still eating a small amount even if visually, it looks like a lot. Eat your veggies everyone.[emoji4]
