Protein, which one you guys use? I am 2 months out and 30lbs down.
erp replied to lunnah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm skeptical about Genepro's claims. Early on I drank Premiere Protein shakes thinned with Water and I liked unjury. -
Dietician said today she is the biggest stumbling block for surgery approval...?
erp replied to TracyBar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Is it perhaps a normal thing for them to tell you the hard facts and scary stuff in this stage?" Yes it is normal. Informed consent includes, the risks, complications and failure rate outcomes. -
25 bites of food a day is not overeating. However as you heal, you will be able to eat more so you should start weighing or measuring your portions.

How far out are you? Some things to try: make sure you are taking your PPI, make sure you are getting in all your fluids, and distract yourself- stay busy to take your mind off of eating. This is temporary and it does get better.

VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?
erp replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Honestly, I usually don't reply. I do amuse myself by reading the threads and all the pre-op people who respond with-- "It's no big deal, you'll be fine" on all the cheating and 'should I eat this' threads. It's like asking the alcoholic if you should have a drink. When I do rarely reply, I simply respond that if they are pre-op they should postpone surgery. If they are post-op then I tell them they should want more for themselves and that french fries and chicken nuggets are not worth a complication at 5 days out and leave it at that. Somehow and I don't know how, I have yet to called a bully or sent a PM to that effect after over 4 years on here. Lipstick lady, I think I recently read a thread where you and Babbs tried to tell someone they were effing the whole thing up and the thread just deteriorated from there. My favorite reply was you telling the pre-ops and newly sleeved something to the effect that they were right and you were wrong and you would just walk away in your size 8 skinny jeans. I guess I just figure that those folks choose to be a statistic, the percentage of people for whom WLS "didn't work". -

Sex after gastric sleeve surgery
erp replied to nolaguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is tough because correlation is not causation and on here you will read thread after thread where sex improves for a variety of reasons (improved confidence, improved mobility, etc.). I can appreciate that these events coincided but frankly her stomach is no where near her genitals. So while no one on here is a doctor, I appreciate Mommamia's suggestion of the therapist though I would think a sex therapist is more appropriate. As a woman, I know for me that sex is more mental than it is physical so checking her physically may not solve the issue(s) but iti s good that you have ruled out physiological issues. I hope you get some resolution soon and good on you for coming on here to ask. -
I was at least 18 months out before my skin started to tighten up. Many have plastics well before then but there is a reason the recommendation is to wait until your weight loss is complete and you are weight stable for at least 6 months to a year. Give it time, it does get better. Don't expect perfection but improvement is reasonable. In the meantime, exercise and stay hydrated and rock those cute outfits! PS- I'm 43 next month.

Hello, I am new at this.
erp replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"I do not know what is better, the Gastric Bypass or the Vertical Sleeve." I would ask your doctor that question. Based on his/her exam of you, your mental health history. and eating patterns. Your bariatric team should have a recommendation. "If I drink nothing but Protein shakes for 4 months along with Water, would I lose faster while exercising?" Sure, you could do that right now and lose weight but if you won't commit to shakes and exercise now, will you after surgery? "Oh I know I got to do it for myself, I have a wedding coming up in 2019 and I want to be able to fit in my wedding dress and to live a healthy life" Actually every answer you gave was an external or short term reason on why you want WL surgery: your mom, a wedding dress, prove to others that you can lose weight. If you really want to live a healthy lifestyle, you wouldn't think that drinking nothing but Protein Shakes for four months is healthy. If you were doing this for you, you would talk about you. So here's my suggestion, start going to a counselor who specializes in weight loss. It's not that you shouldn't have surgery but when all those short term goals or your need for approval from others is met, then what? Best of luck to you on your journey. -
Gastric sleeve complications years after surgery?
erp replied to Gina42's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
None so far for me but I do know that reflux is a common issue that can crop up down the road. It is reason some sleevers convert to a bypass. -
Sex after gastric sleeve surgery
erp replied to nolaguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people report an improvement in sex after losing weight. So the fact that she is sleeved is most likely unrelated. Has she had her hormones checked? Can she enjoy other forms of sexual play using toys or do those cause pain as well? -
Right after surgery it was Water flavored with mio drops and it had to be cool or room temperature.

How do you get all your water in?
erp replied to Mnicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's important to sip, sip, sip all day long. Understand that at two days out- you hopefully are still full of IV fluids so if you only get one ounce in an hour, then you need to make sure every hour you are awake you drink that ounce. Initially, I had to set a timer. Over the next few days, as the swelling goes down that ounce becomes two ounces and so on. No matter what you do though-- fluids are the most important thing. Do not get dehydrated. We can live months without eating but only days without Water. -
Should I postpone? Anyone had the single incision gastric sleeve?
erp replied to Hayz6609's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would wait if for no other reason than surgery is not the priority for you right now. I flew my folks out right after surgery but that was so they could help me as I recovered not to go site seeing or to entertain them. -
I dieted and exercised pre-op, lost about 12 lbs prior to surgery. I highly recommend strength training as part of whatever you do.

Love my Excalibur. I wish I had the 9 tray. I have two 4 trays instead.

What else can be added to protein shakes?
erp replied to ncqt1973's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I add all sorts of stuff to my shakes: I add small amounts of frozen fruit Canned pumpkin with cinnamon protein powder and coconut milk I make green smoothies with spinach and a bit of green apple I blend coffee/espresso, ice, water and no cal sweetener to protein powder for a mock frappucino I add cocoa powder, stevia and cacao nibs for a chocolate chocolate chip shake I could go on and on... -
Kitchenaid spiralizer
erp replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a counter top plastic one that was around $30. I frankly don't use it often; it's kinda big to store and a total pain to clean. So if the Kitchenaid is easy to clean and store, I would go for it. -
Finally! Working out today after a week long hiatus.

Need a buddy/mentor please :)
erp replied to Dana Hardin Cook's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is long enough that you should go into your MD. In the meantime, getting all your fluids in is critically important, ceasing all narcotics (if you are still taking any pain meds from surgery), and as others have mentioned, a stool softener. For me, Miralax was ineffective. I took Dulcolax. We eat so little initially that infrequent BMs are normal. No BM however is not normal so you should be seen to make sure you are not impacted or something else is going on. -
I have used Unjury unflavored. Be aware unflavored does not mean tasteless. Hence I no longer used unflavored powder as I didn't like the taste.

@bariatricbutterfly. I am currently bulking and toying with the idea of doing a competition prep next year. Do you have a coach? I want to find someone who knows something about bariatric eating and not just a bro science coach. Any advice appreciated.

I am assuming you mean protein suggestions. I eat a lot of chicken and turkey but it has to be moist like rotisserie chicken. I also eat a lot of cottage cheese and low sugar Greek yogurt.
