  1. I love that I made it through surgery safely (2/20) and that the people I love the most are here with me while I recover. I will always be grateful for my loved ones being here in my time of need.

    Farts! Help!

I was up an urinating on my own. So they discharged me. Since I was on clears both the day before and during my hospital stay a BM wasn't required as I did have anything solid to eliminate. As far as the gas, since I was burping they weren't concerned that I hadn't farted.
  3. I asked my surgeon yesterday if I should take it and he said no, wait. Then when I got my discharge papers today (sugery was 2/20), it says I should resume. My b/c pills are tiny and my NUT has me starting full liquids today. What was everyone else told to do. I do not want to start my period of I don't have to.
  4. I went into the hospital at 232.8 on my home scale. Came home yesterday at 233.7- I peed a lot in the hospital. Today is 228. HW 263 Started approval process 257 Sleeved 2/20

    Farts! Help!

I was sleeved 2/20. I only started passing gas last night. Before they it was really dissatisfying little burps. I still have pain in my chest, which is telling me there is still gas in there. Walking and time are all that help. It will happen.
  6. Kelly & simplejack- thank you. I got the advice nurse's cell and will ask her. If she is unsure, I will stop taking it until I speak definitively to my Dr.
  7. I was sleeved Feb. 20th. Got home today. My Nut said to start my vitamins, big mistake! I was nauseous for a few hours after that. Fortunately I did not throw up. It hurts to cough but it is getting the mucous out. So definitely do your breathing exercises. Overall, I feeling ok, most of my pain is on the right where my surgeon stitched my muscle. It also caused a big dent on my side which I've read will go away. Been walking quite a bit, not far but often. Still have some gas pain in my right shoulder. I have never been so happy to fart in my entire life. Good luck to all upcoming Feb sleevers!
  8. I missed two days, the 20th, and the 21st. We use condoms already for back up. Plus I am in no mood right now. So I don't think waiting a few weeks will be a problem. Lol
  9. Yesterday was my big day. In the hospital for one more day. Everything is going pretty much as others have described. I have severe but manageable pain on my right side where most of the instruments went in and out. Today's breakfast tray consists of jello, apple juice, and broth. Hope everyone sleeved this week is doing well.
  10. One more day! Surgery tomorrow. DH is finally coming around too! He's very worried but loves me.
  11. I am to be sleeved next week and am on the pre op diet. Let me tell you I have been hungry! A few nights ago I felt a little acid (heartburn) I dismissed it because I am certainly not eating any of the trigger foods that cause reflux. Well last night I felt it again so I took 20 mg of Famotide (sp?) and poof, this morning- not hungry. Anyway here is what I learned, acid make us pre-ops hungry too. I have had heartburn once a week or so for years. Since it wasn't daily, I took an anti-acid as needed and dismissed it. Now I wonder how much of my insatiably over the years was really uncontrolled acid production. That said acid didn't make me over 250 lbs but I think it contributed. As I go down this journey, I am grateful at the self-awareness this process facilitates.

    Leaks

My surgery is Wed. too and a leak is my fear. Yes, people on here have had leak (Sannah, Iggy, etc). If you have not read the complications thread, do so. Also do a search on the topic. Leaks are rare but they do happen and they are very serious. Good luck on Wednesday.
  13. Before getting approved, I used my fitness pal to track calories to about 1200-1300 a day. Over time I lost about 14 lbs. I also walked. I loosely followed the Body 4 Life plan that uses portion control of a lean protein the size of the palm of your hand, carb/starch the size of your fist, and veggies the size/ length of your open hand. With my plan, I had one free day (usually Saturday) to eat whatever I wanted (usually cheetos!) when on plan to feel full at dinner, I always added a second veggie and/ or salad. I ate a protien bar or shake for breakfast and again for a snack. I am on my pre-op diet now and don't think I could have done Atkins or any other extremely low-carb diet- cause this is killing me! Lol. Plus my nutritionist is all about a balanced diet with all food groups included. Good luck you can do it!

    Anxious about tomorrow's surgery

I suggest you spend the day relaxing and focused on you and your family in order to go in with a peaceful state of mind. On what to pack, my list includes gas-x strips, chapstick, ear plugs, pillow, and an eye mask.
  15. I got info in my surgical materials but it was pretty vague. I've looked at a few websites to see what the options are. I generally do not wear jewelry so I know a bracelet isn't for me, I don't think I would consistently wear it. I have thought about a pendant/necklace. NikkiV, do medical personnel look for medical necklaces?
  16. Thank you! I agree it sucks but I've been there a long time so I knew what to expect from them.
  17. I haven't read all the responses but just wanted to temper the tone that I sometimes detect when others respond with honesty's the best policy in these threads. If you've been upfront and recieved nothing but support- realize that you are lucky. My DH is against this and fills my head with so much negativity that I have stopped talking to him about it. Also, I work for a company with a lot of cattiness, judgement, and gossip. Even thought it is illegal, upper management has already talked to my immediate supervisor questioning my surgery, e.g. what am I doing? Why do I need to do this now? They want to know what surgery I'm having since it is elective. Just to be clear, none of them have asked me if I am going to be okay or wished me a speedy recovery. They are simply concerned with making quota. My supervisor has respected my privacy but he is a talker so I've hinted that it's hernia surgery (I do have a hiatal hernia) just in case he can't help himself or they pressure him more. My only point is that I choose not to tell people because even though it is illegal, people can suffer from retaliation in the workplace and judgement at home. Ok off my soapbox now.

    Help! Pre op diet!

I am on day 3 of the liquid diet and yesterday was hard. Here's what has helped me: Stay ahead of your hunger, don't wait until your dying or you'll never feel satisfied. For me this meant eating something (a shake, sf pudding, whatever) every 1-3 hours. Keep busy. I was lazing around the house yesterday and so food was all that I could think about! Drink Water but wait at least 30 minutes after eating. Sleeve rules about no eating and drinking seem to help me stay satisfied longer. Focus on the skinny. I weighed myself this morning and am already down 3 pounds! I've also been browsing the Victoria's Secret website to try and stay motivated. Also someone posted pics of a normal liver and a fatty liver. That was motivating too; I don't want that gross fatty liver inside me! Good luck! We CAN do this!

    unsupported spouse

My guy doesn't support my decision either so I've simply stopped discussing it with him. I have turned to my parents for support and am flying them out to help me with my recovery. That way I am not surrounded by negativity. If you are certain in your decision than you said it best, you think it's right for you. That's what matters. I'm sorry to hear that you believe this could end your marriage but I think what could be worse is staying in a marriage with someone you resent. For me, if I let my DH stop me from doing what I need to do, I would resent him. Good luck in whatever you decide.
