  1. Oh Mina! What a mess! Lots of healing prayers and NO complications from the idiot w/the tube! Have you tried diluting the tylenol in a little water. Wouldn't take much to thin it out. I used to have to do that when I'd get too tight w/my band. That stuff is nasty! Too thick and too sweet! It dawned on me last night that once I've healed and am several months out, I'll be able to TAKE pills again! Might have to cut bigger ones up but that's okay. I've always had to do liquids or chew the pills up. My band wouldn't let even teeny, tiny pills go thru. I'm 5 days out and I don't want any food. Yuck! Can't imagine eating right now. Hope it stays that way for another week. I start progressing on the 18th. Hang in there and heal well!!!!
  2. Patrick, that is wonderful!!! Cody, NSV = Non scale Victory = good things.

    8 Day Post-Op Help

MY Ensure only has 5 grams of sugar. Way less than all the Protein powders in my pantry.
  4. I drink the Ensure High Protein Creamy Milk chocolate shakes. They have 25grams of protein for 14oz. Way better than most RTDs.
  5. I'd call. Just in case. Better safe than sorry. Take care!!!
  6. Yep, I'd be angry too. I'm sorry he did that to you. Any explanation as to why? Doesn't really matter as he broke a confidence but I'm curious.

    8 Day Post-Op Help

What does your paperwork say? Are you at yogurt stage? Once there, frozen would probably be okay. Gotta watch the sugars tho.

    Grrrrrr!

600 calories a day! Yikes! I don't think you're eating enough!!! Especially if you're working out! My doc says 800-1000, maybe a smidge MORE if you're working out hard. Try upping your calorie load a bit and see what happens. You're going to go in to starvation mode and it's not going to come off. Good luck!

    8 Day Post-Op Help

Can you put the soup in a travel mug to keep it warm and just sip on it for awhile? I just got back from seeing a movie and by just constantly sipping was finally able to drink a small [16.9oz] bottle of Water. I'm not hungry either. food doesn't interest me. I mean it smells good and all but I don't really want it. I only had surgery on Monday so I am VERY new to this. Sorry, I'm not much help. You've got to get some nutrition in tho. Aren't there some unflavored and/or clear Protein options that you could put IN your gatorade to help? I'm on a shake a day plus 0 calories fluids for another week. I've been drinking the Ensure Creamy Milk chocolate High Protein shakes. 25g of protein. Don't know if that's an option. Maybe you could put some coffee flavoring in it to change it up a little? Best wishes!
  10. Thank you all so very much for sharing your stories! The Sleeve was a surprise for me only a month ago. I'd heard about it. Have friends who've revised to it but didn't have a lot knowledge of it. Only knew my band needed to come out and this is what my surgeon was offering me. I'm a few days out from my removal/revision surgery now and actually excited about the possibilities of my WL again. I'd lost that after my 1st year w/the band. The last 3 years have been a struggle. I had given up and just hoped to NOT gain, let alone lose anything. These stories help. THANK YOU!
  11. I keep going back to the Ensure High Protein Shakes. They're in the elderly nutrition aisle. One bottle is 14oz, 210cal, 2.5g fat, 3g fiber, 5g sugars, 25g protein. I like the creamy milk chocolate.

    App Ideas

So what stage exactly will you be at when it's time for the party? I love to cook and might have some ideas but need more info. Another resource would be food Network's website, you can do a search for it. They have a huge database of recipes and you'd be sure to find some easy to make, inexpensive recipes. A first thought is to do mini twice baked potatoes. Get the little potatoes, bake 'em, cool enough to handle, cut in half, scoop out some of the inside,, leave a good shell. Mix the insides w/ some shredded cheddar and chives, scoop back in to shells. At this point you can transport. Reheat to warm thru and melt cheese a little. Top with little dabs of sour cream and sprinkle chives on top. In my grocery store here we have a fat free sour cream called Naturally Yours. It is SO good and I use/cook w/it like I would full-fat sour cream! Another idea is to do deviled eggs. Easy, cheap and transport well, Even if you just piped in the yolks at the party to make sure they transport okay. Use a couple of dozen eggs and it makes 48 deviled eggs. Those always go fast at any potluck/parties I'm at. Have fun and get creative!

    Rude People

WOW!! I think you're doing an amazing job! I'm sorry but either get that person out of your life or tell them to knock it off! If they have nothing good to say, you don't want to hear it!!! The jokes and comments are passive agressive and those types of people in general, are not good to have around. In all honesty, if it wasn't your surgery, it'd probably be something else. You have lost over 17lbs each of the last 2 months. That averages out to over 4lbs a week!!! That is AMAZING!!! Tell your "friend" to shut the hell up!

    Day 4 Post Op

I'm on 30grams of Protein shakes and 64fl oz everyday for 2 weeks. Haven't managed any of it yet! LOL! Have gotten about 24fl oz down so far, which includes about a 3rd of my shake, today. Doc actually specifically said NO gatorade/g2 stuff! I don't know why, didn't think to ask. Hmmmm. Anyway, that's it for me for 2 weeks, then I can start progressing w/yogurts, applesauce, etc. I have to read my paperwork again b/c I can't remember much of it.
  17. Oh Honey, I am so very sorry! What in the heck was that idiot thinking? He should have known better! What did your surgeon say? Is he willing to get you in ASAP at FP? What kind of hoops do you have to jump thru w/the insurance. If you can get it taken care of at Forrest Park, closer to home, maybe it's a Blessing in disguise. We'll just hope for all the absolute best in this. Lots of hugs. Keep us posted!!!
  18. Hey Y'all! Had surgery on Monday and I am so BLESSED!!! My doc was able to do my revision as well!! WhooHoo!!! I don't have to go back in August to get sleeved!!!! He said everything went really well, if long. I went in about 10:30 and made the recovery room (which I have no memory of!) about 1/1:15-ish. I did bleed enough for him to mention it but nothing overtly worrying. He was a little surprised was all. Said I had very little scar tissue so doing the revision was a no-brainer for him and he was happy to do it. Monday night was a little rough. I went too long between pain med doses and got in to a little too much pain/uncomfortablness with it. My BP spiked up to 168/115 and to say my nurse wasn't happy is an understatement. When she checked me again 2 hrs later, after the pain meds had kicked in, I was back in a good place again. Tuesday was good, drank my 2 oz of shake for Breakfast and again for lunch. Then they went ahead and gave me more at dinner since it was taking so long for the pharmacy to process my Rxs to go home. Didn't finish it b/c my wheelchair arrived and it was time to go home! Long trip home. An hour. In a 4x4 on big tires and cruddy mtn roads. Took more pain meds and went to bed! Slept well. Had some nausea this morning and dry-heaved for a bit. Called in and got an Rx for nausea. Hubby went and got that for me and I've been fine since. Getting ready to head to bed in a bit. My kindergartener has "graduation" in the morning and I think I'll be up for it! Very happy about that! I'll be doped up but I'll be there!!! So that's it in a nutshell. So glad to be on the other side of it all. Best wishes to all who are following!!!!
  19. Oh geez! So glad you mentioned laundering your sheets! I totally FORGOT! They're in the wash now! Yikes!!! That was close! I have the cleansing wipes to use. An HOUR after my shower tonight and NO shower in the morning.
  20. I agree and think you should write some letters. That's wrong. My initial doc, prior to band surgery, I thought would NEVER be on board but I needed HIM to refer me to the Bariatric Dept! I asked him and he approved the request, sent the referral that day. I was shocked! As I was finishing the program, he left and I got a new doc. I needed his signature on the FINAL reports for the go ahead. My first meeting with him was for this! He was happy to do it! Now I've got a PCP whose a knucklehead! He's very young and the type who works out a lot, played football all thru HS and College, still play pick up games w/his friends, etc. He think you can do ANY thing if you only stop eating and exercise! UGH! If I had to go thru him to get my revision, it wouldn't be happening. He is against WLS, says it doesn't work (just look at you), etc. Same ol' song and dance that most of us hear at some point over the years. I can't change docs unless I want to drive an hour to see someone even when Im sick. As soon as one of the other docs open up, I'm switching. Tho I do have to say, in his defense, that there have been a couple of times where I really needed him and he came thru for me.

    Lap Band To Sleeve

I'm almost 4 years out from my band surgery. I initially lost really well nearly the 1st year out. Then I got the flu. I'm convinced that something happened that week that I was so sick. The following 3 years I've dealt with too much restriction or not enough. Gained all my weight back and managed to stop it a few pounds over my surgery day weight. Lost some of it when I got too tight again. Then I started feeling something wrong in my throat. My band has slipped and is climbing my esophagus. My doc told me on the 9th that it had to come out and he is advising the sleeve for me. We are hoping to do one surgery but it depends on how much damage and scar tissue there is. Otherwise I'll have 2 surgeries. Removal on the 4th and revision in August after I've healed. I've spent the last month researching and getting used to the idea that I've got to do this again.
  22. Congratulations! Funny, I don't mind the stuff they make you drink. Not that I "LIKE" it but it doesn't make me gag. Hopefully I can still say that on Tuesday! LOL!! My surgery is in Fresno.
  23. Keeping it short and sweet. Tho I'm pretty good about over-packing! Lip Balm Nightshirt w/long sleeves [i'm always cold afer surgery] Vit C drops to suck on Small pillow for my tummy Regular pillow [arthritic neck so not any pillow will work] A stuffy of my daughter's that I've asked her to pick out for me. She's 6 and kinda freaked out that I'm having surgery AND spending the night in the hospital so I've asked her to send something special of her to send with me. Book Glasses Wish I had a tablet b/c I don't want to haul my laptop w/me. I think that's it. I'll wear the clothes home that I'm going in.

    Dumping

My surgical team also said it's possible. Again, not really on the scale of the bypass patients. But it certainly IS possible.
