  1. I think everyone has pre-op jitters. I was a total wreck!! Some things to keep in mind are that every type of surgery has its share of horror stories and hardly anyone writes about a non eventful surgery. Yes, bad things can happen but it doesnt mean they will. Has your surgeon discussed his history with VSG? Do everything in your power to make the surgeons job easier...liver shrinking diet, no smoking, etc. best of luck to you!!
  2. Sorry, i forgot to add that i also have a protein shake every day. 64 oz water. I use the treadmill 3/5 days per week. 1 chewable multi vitamin, b12 sublingual, calcium chews and prilosec.
  3. Here is a screen shot of what I typically consume. I am 6 weeks post op. i average 500 calories a day; my NUT says i should try for 800. I eat mostly chicken, egg whites, deli turkey, greek yogurt, oatmeal, lentils, Beans, cottage cheese and some cooked veggies. I hope that helps you...shame on your doctor!!
  4. I am down 51lbs (26 post op) and I definitely notice my face, hands, feet, and shoulders. My husband says he can feel the difference when he hugs me. Now it's time for this barrel around my middle to go!!

    Weight Gain After Surgery

Me too! I came home 10lbs heavier and was not happy. It came off quickly though.
  6. My favorite is that I am not hungry. Ever. The worst is and may always be exercise! Although it is much easier than before, I still hate every single second of it.

Will I Ever Be Able To Eat Bread Again?

I was cleared for occasional 1/2 piece of whole wheat bread at 4 weeks, i tried it yesterday at 6 weeks, with my egg whites and didn't reaally care for it. Bread was always my weakness and I am thrilled that I didn't enjoy it! Now I know that I am not missing anything. I also hated eating sweetened everything in the beginning, try soup or greek yogurt with a little salt & pepper...gives it an entirely different taste.

    95 Lbs So Far...

Good for you! All the hard work will be worth it.
  10. Hi Dana, You sound a lot like me pre-op. I was so resistant to weight loss that even at 1000 calories a day the lbs wouldn't drop. Even at my heaviest, i ate a very healthy diet. It was so frustrating. I asked the NP the same questions and she responded the same way. Fast forward to 6 weeks post op... It works! I am down 25 lbs and 27". sure, I wish it was more but I am happy that it is working. I have zero hunger, I eat my 500 calories; 1/4cup of Protein each meal plus one shake, drink 64oz Water, exercise and the scale moves. I don't miss any food although I would like a glass of wine on occasion...but I can wait. Before, dieting was torture with constant hunger and zero results, now it is basically effortless. Best of luck to you!

    Energy Levels Low!

I am 5.5 weeks post op and still get extremely fatigued. I go to the gym and am fairly active all day, by 8pm i can barely move. It must be that we are burning more calories than we take in.

    Atkins Advantage Drinks?

My NUT also said to stay away from Atkins due to high fat and calories. I really love EAS Myloplex dark chocolate, i have it every day.

    Unflavored Protein

Yuck is right! I couldn't handle any unflavored Protein. Someone on here said it is more tastless with mill based foods. I can't imagine the smell would go away though.

    Peripheral Neuropathy

I havesuffered from PN for years (made worse by severely low b12) and have felt a marked improvement since surgery. Weird, huh? Please talk to your doctor. I see a neurologist regularly for my PN

    Calories

I am 5 weeks out and doing the same as you. 4-500 calories per day, 60g protein and 64oz of water. This is what is recommended by my dr. I suppose if you go low fat and eat 1/4cup size you will automatically have 500 cal. Once we move up to 1/3 cup it will increase. I feel good except very low on energy. How about you?

    How And When Did You...

Congrats on your decision! Initially I only told my best friend and of course I discussed with my husband. I am a very sensitive person and I tend to take negative comments way to hard. Knowing this, i kept it pretty quiet for a long time. Since then i have told more people but i usually start with "i am telling you this because I know that you will be supportive of me, I have done all the research and have made this decision..." That leaves little room for negative comments, although I have had 2 people that couldn't help themselves. I wish you the best!

    Is The Band That Bad?

I am struggling with a similar situation. My best friend and I decided to get lap band surgery. We went to the seminar and I decided halfway through that the sleeve was for me, she did not change her mind. We are both super supportive of each other even if we went with different surgeries, however, I really dont want her to get the band! She is scheduled for surgery in 3 weeks. I am afraid she hasnt done much research and I gently try to talk up my sleeve. She was so excited to hear how I am never hungry and said she can't wait to feel the same...I told her that wouldn't be the case with the band and I saw a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. I suggested she talk to our surgeon one more time before her date and ask a lot of questions. He seems to really prefer sleeve over band but will ultimately do whichever you decide. I am hoping she will not get the band!

    Tired All The Time

I am 1 month also and I too feel wiped out by 9:00 pm! I'm up at 5 and going to the gym 4x a week, getting all my protein and water in too. Some days I am burning more calories than I take in...i think that's the problem!
