  1. WOW! Our thread is 20 pages! It's really getting real guys!

It really is! When I saw your post about August being 3 weeks away my tummy flipped. UGHHHH, I don't wanna be first. Wahhhhh!!! ;( Being first makes me more nervous than getting the surgery its-self! hahahaIII I'm going to go join the July thread too so I can be last. LOL!!!

    First...wow.

  2. I had to tell you that I have not vomited!!! Not once!!!!!! Yay!!!! Yay!!! Yay!!!

I too have an irrational fear of vomiting. I explained my fear and I asked both my surgeon and anesthesiologist if I could have Zofran prior to and after surgery (June 25). They also gave me reglan and Pepcid intravenously to keep the new tummy calm and avoid nausea. Only once, the night of surgery, did I wake up feeling slightly nauseous and I immediately called for something. I got mildly nauseous twice at home, but I had a prescription for Zofran ODT (orally dissentigrating tablets). It's an antiemetic that doesn't make you sleepy, like phenergan can. I also found warm pure peppermint leaf herbal tea to be very soothing. (I personally prefer Twinings brand)

Please voice your fears to your doctors.

    Best wishes to you!!

    ~Jane

Jane, I read your quote and I thought I was going to cry! YAY for no puking!!! YAY for doctors that understand our irrational fears!!! YAY for meds that help!!!!

Your comments confirmed my thoughts to explain this fear to my doctors. I'm guessing with the hernia repair they are also doing they are going to be more than happy to keep the puking monster at bay! :P I'm going to write down the meds you mentioned and make sure we have a plan in place before surgery starts. Thanks so much for chiming in, your post has really encouraged me! <3

  3. 90 days post-op, I've vomited four times. Twice I know I ate that "one more bite" and twice it was simply that the food was too rich. Not to be gross or anything, but I knew I was going to puke, I managed to make it to the bathroom, and.... Finished. No heaving, no gagging, no wretching. (I hadn't thrown up in about 30 years either.)

"Full" does not feel like it did before. I've learned now that I have to eat SLOWLY, and when I feel 'not hungry' anymore, I stop eating. It's part of the mental re-tooling that has to happen. My wonderful supportive husband suggested I write down all my rules about food (clean your plate; eat what's set before you; blah, blah, blah) and PLAN to break them all. That was sooooooooo helpful. Haven't puked in weeks and think I've got that covered now. =) The other important thing is that my tastes have changed. Big time. If I can only eat 1/2 cup at a time, I'm not wasting it at McVictims or Burger King. No. No. No. I don't crave like I used to, and I have stopped eating fat, sugar, and junk food without even really thinking about it. I love that I don't feel like I'm on yet another diet. There's no sense of deprivation or resentment.

Best advice I have for not puking is eat slowly and don't let your psyche win the "one more bite" argument.

Great advice, thank you so much!!! I'm experiencing the same things with cravings as I work on my pre-op plan. I'm finding that I'm becoming indifferent to food food as I mentally prepare for my surgery in a few weeks. I look as some of my favorite foods and I'm actually mad at them, because they were way too important to my survival than I'd like to admit. I'm looking forward to developing a healthy relationship with food as I work through some of my food issues.

I'm 10 days out and haven't puked yet. #knock wood I measure my food and only take 4 ounces at a time. I can drink much more Water than that. I was trying to drink more Protein as well and found myself getting hot flashes, weak, and that I had to lay down. Then it finally dawned on me that I was trying to take in too much Protein at once. I have since cut back my Protein shakes to 4 ounces at a time and no more ill feelings. Hope that helps

This is a great help, thanks!!! I'm encouraged to hear that you haven't been sick yet. Sounds like I need to go purchase some 4oz ramekins and use those for my meals until I can judge portions better.

  4. I think everyone is different. For me I must eat slow, and that has been hard for me to learn. I am also a NON-PUKER, But I have puked about 5 times, mostly within a 1 week period, and not until at lease 5-6 weeks out. For me its like I fill up a pitcher to full and it just overflows. The first time it came on so quickly I had time to yell to my husband to grab me something and I was unable to move. I don't heave its just like getting rid of the overflow.

My advice is eat slow, listen to your tummy. The full feeling is just like before so when it starts feeling full STOP! Because 1 extra bite is all it takes.

Good Luck & Don't be afraid of the puke, its going to happen :(

This is a great visual and one that I'm writing down! I'm glad to hear the puking is somewhat peaceful! hahaha!

  5. After reading all the posts about "eating one bite too many", I'm starting to really worry about what signs I will need to be looking for so that I don't overheat. I'm seriously terrified of vomiting, I haven't done so in 39 years because of my irrational fear. I've been nauseated, but I've never puked. I would much rather feel like poo then to have to hug the porcelain throne. Hahaha!

I know everyone is different and all of that, but it would be helpful if some of the post-op peeps could share their experiences with me. What things can I do to prevent vomiting from overheating or anything else? How will I know I'm full; does it feel the same as before the sleeve? I've researched and read my handbook, but I havent seen anything concrete that I can put in my memory bank

Sorry I'm such a freak, but I have to get the puking monster under control before August 1st. :o LOL!

  6. Yay!!! Now I have a partner in crime! I am so glad I started weaning myself of the junk befor the liquid diet. It really hasn't been too hard and it feels good to know I'm already working on changing my ways. Honestly, I'm hating food right now and just ready to get this show on the road!!!

Good luck to you as you take each step towards a healthy YOU! Hugs!

I wish my date wasnt so far away, ive been told that a 'booked surgeon is a good surgeon' so at least i can take comfort in that!

In the meantime I took a page from Slenderella's book and have started my own "Pre-Op Wean-Off"

    July 3 - No diet soda/carbonated beverages

    July 10 - No sugar

July 17 - No fried foods

    July 24 - No white/refined grains/bread/carbs

July 31 - No caffiene (eeeeek!)

    Aug 7 - Pre-op liquid diet begins

Hard to believe pre-op is only a month away!!

  7. Oh, I am so sorry! Praying he finds a job soon and your weight loss journey continues as planned.

Sometimes its hard to understand why our plans get interrupted, but most of the time we understand the reason once we've passed through the storm. Hopefully this is a short storm for you and your husband! Heck, who knows, maybe there is a better job right around the corner and it will have insurance benefits that will pay for surgery!! :D

    Hugs!

  8. Did you have the hernia repaired at the same time your sleeve was done? I'm also having a hernia repair when i get my sleeve, and I'm a bit concerned about the recovery with the dual procedure.

Initially I was planning on using using my vacation time and returning to work a week after surgery, but not I'm wondering if I should take longer and go on short-term disability. This has me stumped, so I'd appreciate any advice you have to offer.

Wishing you a pain free recovery!

  9. So, today is the day I get to report my first NSV, and I haven't even had my surgery yet!! Yes, I'm gunna brag and I know y'all will love listening. ;)

I am pre-op, and I have been giving up some of my vices over the last few weeks in preparation for starting my liquid diet on 7/23. I am an emotional eater, I turn to food when I need comfort. Today was very challenging emotionally, and I did not turn to food for comfort! As bad as I wanted the ice cream, diet coke, doughnuts, candy, fried cheese and taquitos that I passed in the grocery store with my broken heart, I sassed my big ol booty right by that junk and left without buying any.

Take that bad day! :P That is an NSV, right? Anyone else have NSV that happened pre-op?

    Happy losing,

    Slenderella

  10. EEEKKKK!! Just looked at the calendar and it's only 26 days until the party gets started...and I'm going FIRST. wahhhh!!! ;(

I'm starting to get a few butterflies every time I think about it, but as I'm determined as ever. Heck, I found out yesterday that we got a contract on our house and we will close on Aug 9th. Perfect excuse to back out and reschedule, but I'm going for it! Looks like I will be busy packing before surgery, so maybe I won't have too much time to get anxious.

    Let's do this!

  11. ~I can't wait to be able to wear a skirt ing the summer and not get a rash from my legs rubbing together.

~I can't wait to have pretty hands and not cute little sausages for fingers.

    ~I can't wait to wear a sundress.

~I can't wait to have food left on my plate after a meal.

~I can't wait to have my picture taken with my son when he graduates from college in December

~I can't wait to see a thin face when I look in the rear view mirror.

~I can't wait to feel in control of my health

~I can't wait to rejoin the world with confidence and self-control

~I can't wait to feel ready to find a new church home and see what God has planned for the next stage of my life!!!

  12. I prayed for you several times today, so thankful to read your good report! God is so good! I will keep praying that you are completely healed.

My son had the camera pill test a few years ago and it's actually pretty cool. It takes thousands of pictures as it moves through the digestive tract.

Big hugs to you as you heal!

  13. Well you can add me to the August 2012 list, yay!!! I just found out yesterday I am scheduled for August 1st, so right now it looks like I will be first in line. Eeeekkk!!!! :o Y'all are going to be there cheering me on, right???

I am scheduled to start my full liquid pre-op on 7/25, but I am using the next few weeks to wean myself off of things so that I don't experience such a shock when the 25th rolls around.

The week of 6/25 I said good-bye to carbonated beverages

The week of 7/2 is audios to sugar

The week of 7/9 is Ciao to fried foods

The week of 7/16 is Au Revoir to "white carbs"

The week of 7/23 is HELLO TO THE NEW ME!!!

    Let's do this, August sleevers!!
