  1. Seems like you guys can get a lot down. I was sleeved on Tuesday may 22nd and it takes me 30 mins to finish a shot glass of Water. Every sip I take feels like a gallon and my brother has to pat my back until I burp. I can eat about 2-3 baby size spoons of Jello until I feel like my chest is gonna explode. The only thing that goes down ok are the

popsicles. I can't wait until I'm pass this stage cause it sucks.

Ebonyj, what are you doing for painkillers, and have you tried warm liquids (like the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken soup)? I know we're straying off topic here, but I find my sleeve cramps more if the liquid is cold, and if my tylenol or vicodin has worn off. The colder the liquid, the worse it is. I tend to let everything cold get to room temperature, or mush the Jello around in my mouth til it warms up. The popsicle liquid seems to warm up before it goes down, too. But I was sleeved on 5/21 and doing well with my shakes, Soup, popsicles, and jello. Not much on the scale yet, but I still feel post surgical gassy and bloated. I had a major operation 6 days ago, I'm going to expect my body to take a while to get better.

  2. Both my mom and I work at a hospital that specializes in bariatric surgery, so this was a little hard cause of what we see on the other side. But I was in the car with her and told her strait foward- mom, I'm thinking of getting the sleeve. My weight is --- and I need help. She agreed and said how can I help- lets do this

That's great! My parents have been really good, too - my dad told me how courageous I am, and that he understands all the good reasons for doing it, but still thinks it's a brave decision to do this for myself and my health. I'll take the compliment.

  3. For the life of me, I can't seem to pass it, and they won't discharge me until they're sure that my bowels are working. Except for this, I've been ready to go since Tuesday (op was 8:30 a.m. on Monday). I know the drill - walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip. I've never wanted to fart so much before in my life!

Every doctor and nurse who comes to check on me has to marvel at my single site, though. I feel really lucky to have been able to get one of those. Incision through the belly button, one puncture higher up for the liver retractor, and the rest pretty smooth tummy skin. Ah, vanity.

  4. Wow, you're dealing with a handful, aren't you! *hugs* It sounds like you're making a great effort to take care of yourself, you're finding out important things about your body, and it's moving slowly forward. I think aiming for surgery by the end of the year is reasonable, and not too accelerated that you won't keep getting frustrated as things change. I don't know anything about Graves disease, so I can't help you there, but I love your outlook in the last paragraph. Vent to us all you want, This is a great place for it!

  5. If they haven't submitted you for insurance, there's not much benefit with sticking with BCBS for the surgery. Are your other costs (deductible, out-of-pocket, etc.) the same between the two? I'm really not happy with your office manager from what you've said, and if she's pushing the two procedures, do you know how many sleeves your surgeon has done? Is he the only surgeon in the area? If you haven't gone through any insurance hoops, you may want to consider looking around on the surgeon score, as well. I know it's a lot to think about with your open enrollment date ending Wednesday, but we're here to bounce your ideas off of! With the odd wording of BCBS DE, all else being equal Aetna might be the way to go, even if you're delayed on your surgery until July. A little delay for a positive outcome is an acceptable thing. :)

  6. I was also nervouse to tell my chiropractor' date=' who is nerdy health conscious. He was also supportive. PHEW.[/quote']

That's funny - I also haven't told my chiro yet for the same reason - he's anti-vaccine, too, so I feel like he's a little "out there" about medical intervention. I know I'll have to tell him if I'm going to get any post-op adjustments, but I just didn't want to.

In general, though, I've had no one I've told be unsupportive, which I'm really grateful for. I've been free with the info at work if anyone asks, and everyone at the very least has withheld judgement, and wished me well and hoped for the best. :-)

I've been very lucky in the telling people arena. Good luck to everyone in their decisions in that regard. You don't need to tell anyone you don't want to, but you also don't need to listen to negative feedback. I like the way someone's surgeon said: do what you think will be best for your success!

  7. I'm on May 21, and although I know it's the right thing, I'm still scared and nervous. Am I really going to the hospital and saying, "Please cut out most of my stomach"? It's going to make such a difference to our long term physical and mental health, though. It's empowering to take this step for myself - it's a hard decision, and I've made it, and of you're like me, you've been over it a million times and you know it's best. It is scary, and it's going to be tough, but we're all here for each other.

    This place is the best!

  8. aw thank you all for the support. I have a friend who had the gastric bypass done and in a year she lost 150lbs' date=' but that was because she was 300+lbs. I feel bad, but I want to tell her "well that was because you were way bigger than me, so shut up!" but I am polite and say "I had the sleeve and that works different, plus my bmi was less than yours" lol.[/quote']

Sweetie, be happy for yourself, AND your aunt, AND your friend! How can you feel bad that everyone is getting thinner and healthier?

  9. I was released from Alexian yesterday. Great stay and great job they did. The best was everything they did to dull any pains. Did you go to the support group meetings? Also, in my job I have to go around to different places, do they supply a temporary handicap pass?

I go into Alexian on Monday, so I'm a week behind you! I have Dr. Wallace, who is also part of the Kane Center group that you and Shrinkinmama have. It sounds like I'm in good hands.

I plan to go to support group meetings, so I hope to see you there. I imagine you need to talk to the surgeon or your primary care doctor about a temp handicap pass, once they clear you for driving.

  10. You will be amazed at your changes. Do not be ashamed of where you are today, please. You are not ugly, horrible or in denial. You are making a change. Be proud of yourself!

    Beautiful comment, iegal!
