Lose And Loose Are Two Completely Different Words

O.T.R. I know plenty of mathematicians who would do exactly what you are suggesting if they had an outlet for it. It is just easier to be a grammar Nazi on a forum that uses English instead of math for their language. If someone was on this forum comparing, say light years to liters, you would be the first to jump in to say one is a unit of distance and one is a unit of volume so cannot be compared. It would drive you crazy not to say anything. Am I wrong? Everyone should care about basic grammar. No matter how educated or intelligent you are, if you cannot express yourself in the written word, you lead people to believe you are stupid. This is unfortunately the only interaction we get with people on this forum. Since I do not know these people first hand, I have to base my assumptions off of other factors.

P90X? Mixed Martial Arts? Too Intense?

My family and I just went to our first competitve jousting tournament. It was so much fun. I haven't done swordplay in years, but it was one of the competitive events. I helped some of the guys warm up and wasn't too rusty. I was only about weeks out from surgery and it was a great workout! I would LOVE if their were a troupe closer to home so I could go back to it. Do you compete?

    Thoughts On Hair Loss?

This is right in line with the period for hair loss that I have been reading about on this forum. I hear anywhere between 3 and 9 months. Then it starts to grow back.
  6. I found out after my mother passed that at some point she has a gastrectomy done as well. There is absolutely no one left alive that had any idea the procedure was ever performed. No one knows why, or when, so she would have had to have had it done during her short stint in the army before she got injured. That means that she had it for 25 years before she passed away. She never had any complications and was always thin. When I think back on it I never even remember her ever saying she was hungry, even though she cooked all the time. Her passing had nothing to do with her surgery. As a matter of fact, me finding out about her gastrectomy was the long term info I needed to make my decision.

This May Be Inappropriate, Forgive Me :)

You already have everything you are going to have. However, weight loss will make it look larger and reduction in adipose tissue will expose more length and effectively make it larger up to the anatomical point you are meant to be at

After about the second time she asked me some sort of really smart A&* comment would have come out of my mouth. How rude!

This May Be Inappropriate, Forgive Me :)

I haven't read the whole post yet, but commented in preop on their version of this so I wanted to bring this over here: Okay, I have to say this because I have seen this 3 times in a single week now. Using the word vajayjay really does not make something less offensive (if you are going to be offended by it) or more appropriate than using the actual word for it. Many of our mothers programmed us the word Vagina is inappropriate, which it is not. (Same goes for when you are at your doc ladies). My mom raised me calling it a "Suzy". Now every time I meet a girl with that name, I internally snicker. See, ruined!! Please don't be afraid to call it (and raise your children to call it) a vagina.

    Not Losing Sizes Fast

At 237 I was in a loose 20. That is about right I believe. You really lost almost 2 sizes if you were in a tight size 22. Sounds like you are doing well!

When You Have No Choice But Fast Food...

If you are choosing fast food because of a financial situation you are wasting money. My husband and I were homeless at one point and during recovery from this, needless to say, we were pretty broke. Since I couldn't yet find a job and had some time, I really looked at the math and realized that fast food is ALWAYS more expensive than buying food at the grocery store (even if you are talking about the dollar meals.) As for hectic, I get it, I am a grad student, my husband is military and a student and we are raising our son. I found that the 9 dollar package of chicken breasts can go a really long way. If you just throw them in the oven and bake them, you can then make all KINDS of things that will be your protein for an entire week for both of you. I am just worried that if you stay on a fast food diet you will be low on your proteins. If you haven't had surgery yet, you may want to wait if possible until you can afford the appropriate supplements. Good luck!

    Lunch Question

Subway makes salads too. That way you won't be tempted by the bread.
  16. You expressed my feelings exactly. Shame on Dr. A for spending his life helping people learn about proper nutrition and yet his own niece falls through the cracks. Kids at 12 should not have to worry about losing weight. I was severely overweight at that age and I can honestly say it is because no one in my family knew anything about proper nutrition and appropriate exercise for a 12 year old.

    Sigh....cooking

Great advice! My mother was a terrible cook, but I learned to be a great cook. I have looked at this surgery as a new opportunity to take other peoples delicious recipes and make them taste great and healthy too. As someone who taught herself, you have to realize that in order to get better at cooking, you just have to do it! There are a million mistakes to make, but with each one, you won't make it again. I also watch food network to get ideas. The other night they gave me the idea for MD shrimp cakes and blackbean quinoa for example. Start with simple things, like not overcooking basic meat recipes. Get a meat thermometer and trust that for a while until you get the hang of it. Start really basic and then start adding spices you are familiar with. The rest comes with time. This means you will wind up eating a lot of meals that are simply ok. After a while you will get a bunch of "this is pretty good" meals and it will get better and better as you figure it out.

    Ughhhh

Believe it or not. A biscuit is going to use up a lot of your daily calories and make you hungry again sooner. You need to examine the post op diet and try to live that way now. There is a reason we eat the way we do. Ditching the simple carbs now will make life A LOT easier for you.

    Two Questions...

My energy level was fine by about 3 weeks out. However, I broke a stall and started dropping a lot of weight in the past week and now I am REALLY tired again. Enough that I actually feel drugged. I am 2 months out on the 9th. Apparently, it goes up and down for some of us for a while.

Not Trying To Be Grose But...

I have vomited twice at two months. Both times it was after I ate and sat at the desk and drank what I had sitting at my desk. I brought up a couple of tablespoons of fluid and then I was fine. That is completely not normal.
  24. My NUT told me to focus on my 70-90 g protein daily, she didn't give me a number for carbs and said not to worry about calories (eating the right things and using your tool is most important) but thought it usually averaged between 700-900 calories a day. I have found that I don't lose a lb if I get less than 1000 a day.
