  1. I, too, love sushi and it's one of the things I can't wait to eat when I'm able. Thanks for the post and thanks to Vance for his comment. That gives us a little hope for the future.
  2. So, I've finally progressed from liquids to soft foods -- pudding, yogurt, eggs, etc. I was eager to eat but find it extremely unpleasant. I can feel the food traveling to my stomach and it's a very unpleasant feeling. I really feel it in my chest. It settles eventually, but not without much discomfort. I know the surgery affects people differently, but I was wondering: Is anyone else experiencing this? And those of you who are 2, 3, 4 months or more out, did you experience it and how long did it persist? I dread the thought that this could be a forever thing. That would really be depressing! 3. Thank you all so much for your encouragement. I had the surgery a week ago today. Feeling better today than I did a few days ago. I am optimistic that I will continue to improve. @ smileen: I'm going to try the muscle milk light. Thanks for hipping me to that. I didn't realize it contained no milk. Guess I should have looked at the ingredients instead of making assumptions based on the name of the product "muscle milk." :-) Also, my surgeon prescribed prevacid for the gas. But, admittedly, it doesn't seem to be working as well as I'd like. It helps, but I still have some issues. At least now the gas is escaping through more -- ahem -- traditional channels instead of roaming around my insides creating havoc. lol
  4. Thanks. I'll try that.
  5. That's what I keep telling myself. As the saying goes, "This, too, shall pass." I feel better today than I've felt all week, so already it's getting better. I am so doggone hungry, though! But know I can't eat and would be afraid to eat anyway. My surgeon prescribed prevacid so I'm taking that. It helps but I still have the gas pains. Looking forward to the day when that gets better.
  6. I had my surgery on Monday, February 27, 2012. Admittedly, I've had a couple of fleeting moments of regret. But again, they were fleeting. This is not a decision I entered into lightly. Not to mention the lengthy process required to even get approved for the surgery. The initial pain and discomfort following the surgery had me wondering if I've made the right decision. I know that as I heal and get past this rough part, I will welcome the weight loss and all the other changes I look forward to, like not needing a seatbelt extender when flying and being able to wear the "gimme" t-shirts people handout and never have the plus sizes. Today is the first day that I have felt like I can move around without my innards hurting. The gas pains are horrible, though. I knew I had a lactose intolerance but it was mild. I was able to drink protein shakes before my surgery and drank them quite a bit throughout the liver shrink diet. But post-op, I tried the same protein shakes and the gas is unbearable. So I had to switch to soy milk. The soy milk still gives me a little gas but nothing like the protein shakes. I am starving but can only do liquids. I'm a little worried about not being able to consume enough protein during this phase since I can't drink the protein shakes. I can't wait until I move to the soft foods stage. In addition to it all, very few people even know I've had the surgery so there aren't many people with whom I can discuss the aftermath and how I'm feeling. I'm glad to have found this forum and although I've never blogged before, I'm going to give it a try -- not only to document this journey for myself, but also because it might give others some insight into what this journey is like. I'm usually a very private person, so this is really new to me. However, I've decided that I'm going to be open and honest and just put it out there. From reading some of the other blogs and posts here, I feel like I am among the right community to do so. Thank you all! Sleeved 2-27-12

  8. Hi everyone. Just joined the forum today. My surgery was Monday and today, for the first time, I don't feel horrible. I, too, had some moments of regret this week -- especially since the sleeve gastrectomy is irreversible, unlike the other two options. So regrets or not, I'm stuck. Like calitrells, the gas pains are awful. Right now that is the source of my pain and discomfort. Earlier in the week it was my innards that caused me the most pain, but today there is marked improvement in that arena. I am on a liquid diet and have a hard time consuming almost anything without the gas pains. I could drink the Protein shakes just fine before the surgery, but now it is as if my lactose intolerance ramped up 100% as I cannot drink a Protein shake without severe gas pains. So I've switched to soy milk. Also doing some non-caffeinated tea, crystal light and broth (ugh!). I know this discomfort will pass and as the weight comes off I'll be pleased, but right now I am not enjoying the discomfort. I'm trying to suck it up and a be a big girl, though.
