What Do You Eat?
I agree with Ashleyxx. Lean meats, low fat dairy, protien shakes (mostly for breakfast), nuts, beans, some veggies and lots of sugar free popsicles. I use my crock pot a lot! I can eat anything I want but try to stay away from carbs because I crave them so bad. I do eat at Subway here and there but I take off the top of the bread. If I need to eat fast food I usually get grilled chicken without the bun or salad with grilled chicken.

Feb 2012- How Are You Doing?
I'm down 36 pounds, 4 sizes in pants and 2 sizes in tops since surgery on 2/14/12. I've hit 3 stalls since surgery and I'm really having a hard time with carb cravings. My fiance just had his surgery on Tuesday so I'm hoping we can both keep each other on track.

Smokey Refried Bean Soup
This recipes says 4 servings but that is a very large serving. I got about 6, 1 cup servings when I made it. I figured it at 188 calories and 10 grams of Protein per cup. It was very very good and my fiance loved it too. It's a keeper. Smoky Refried Bean Soup This soup is so thick it’s almost a chili. Use the minimum amounts of chipotle chili powder and hot sauce to make this a mild dish or add more to make it as hot as you dare. Ingredients 1 large onion, chopped 3 – 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 green bell pepper, chopped 1 1/2 cups vegetable broth 1 14-ounce can diced tomatoes (I used fire-roasted) 15 ounces fatfree refried Beans 15 ounces black beans, cooked 1 cup frozen corn kernels 1 teaspoon cumin 1 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika 1/8 – 1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder (to taste) 1 teaspoon hot sauce (or to taste) 1/2 teaspoon Mexican oregano (optional) salt and pepper, to taste Instructions Spray a large, non-stick pot with cooking spray, and sauté the onion until it begins to brown. Add the garlic and bell pepper and cook for one more minute. Add all the remaining ingredients and cook until the flavors blend, 20-30 minutes. Total time (duration): 40 minutes Diet type: Vegan Number of servings (yield): 4 Makes 4 large servings. Nutrition (per serving): 261 calories, 8 calories from fat, <1g total fat, 0mg cholesterol, 851.8mg sodium, 478.9mg potassium, 49.7g carbohydrates, 14.4g Fiber, 6.7g sugar, 15.2g protein, 7.4 points.

Progress With Valentines Day Sleevers? (2/14)
I've lost 32 pounds since surgery (not inculding the pre-op diet).

Oh No! Mcdonalds For Lunch?
Sometimes at McDonald's I order the oatmeal made with water instead of cream and no brown sugar. I just add splenda. They serve it all day.

Hungry

Ok..going Back To The Straw Issue..
My doc said he has no preference. They left it up to me if I wanted to use a straw or not. I have used a straw and haven't had any issues with it.

Sugar Free/no Sugar Added?
My NUT said to look for foods with 5 grams or less of fat per serving and 10 grams or less of sugar per serving.

Plateau
I was sleeved on 2/14 and I've already had 2 stalls. My weight loss seems slow because I think my expectations were just too high. I've lost 30 pounds in 11 weeks and when I step back and really think about that it's a great accomplishment. An average of almost 3 pounds a week is great! We just have to stay possitive. I weight myself on Mondays and I was really not looking forward to the scale yesterday but I lost 5 pounds this week. I was in shock! Do you track your calories? Maybe you need to change your diet a little or change up your activity. It seems like when I eat more calories I drop more pounds than I expect to. Just an idea. Good luck and hang in there.

1200 Calories?
BTW, now that my sleeve will hold more food, I'm going back to reduced fat dairy to stay within my calorie range.
-
1200 Calories?
I was also only 3 weeks out when my doctor told me to eat at least 1000 calories a day. I thought how in the world am I going to do that since I couldn't eat much at one time and I was still on soft foods. I started eating full fat dairy instead of fat free or reduced fat so I could get more calories in. I also try to get all of my protein from food instead of shakes. It's not to hard to get the calories if you eat on a schedule. I eat six times a day and try to eat some kind of protien every time I eat (lots of eggs, cheese, beans, tuna and chicken).

1200 Calories?
My doctor told me to eat 1000 to 1200 calories a day. He said I had to eat at least 1000 to lose weight. I aim for 1000, most days I'm a little under and some days I'll go a little over if I'm having a lot of hunger.

Carbonated Drinks and Fried Foods
I took a couple of drinks of my daughters coke the other day because I was dying of thirst and didn't have a drink with me. I swished it around in my mouth to try to get rid of the bubbles. I could tell if I drank more than 2 or 3 drinks it would make me feel icky but it didn't bother me. My surgeon says you can definitely stretch your sleeve and not to drink carbonated drinks. I've read a lot of posts about the strechy part of stomach being gone and what's left is more leather like and can't stretch that much. When I asked my surgeon he said that a lot of the more stetch part is gone but you can still stretch your sleeve. For me drinking soda is not worth the risk of stretching my sleeve. I'm already scared to death of losing my restriction. I'm not taking that risk. Besides, soda isn't good for anyone and I don't bring it into my house because I don't want my kids drinking it. As far a fried food goes, I can eat anything. I haven't found any food that bothers me. I'm glad that I have the option to eat whatever I want but I choose to make healthy choices. I'm paranoid of not being successful after going through a nine month waiting period and surgery.

Eating Too Fast
My surgeon has a patient who ate an apple when she was only a week post-op. She busted her staple line and they had to totally re-do her surgery. I know it's hard to only be on liquids or soft food but don't risk it.

Really? No Underwires Right After Surgery?
My highest incision was at least 1 1/2 inches below my bra. I wore an underwire bra home from the hospital the day after surgery. I only wear underwire and I never had an issue with my incisions.

Depressed.
10 pounds from one day to the next is a lot but by this time next week that 10 pounds will probably be gone again. I know it's very depressing but just hang in there. Our bodies change everyday. Just give it time and don't stress out, stress is not good for weight loss. Stick with it and you'll do great.

Depressed.
Are you holding water? I lost weight during my period and the next week I gained because my legs were swollen. My ankles looked like Grandma's, lol. I took a water pill and my weight went back down to what it was.

February 10-13 Sleevers... How Are You Doing?
I was sleeved on 2/14. I can eat anything I want just not very much of it. Some days I feel like I can hardly eat anything and other days I wonder if I'm eating too much. I track my calories and I've been doing really well but wish I was losing more. I have had a great recovery from surgery and no issues at all. I've lost 24 pounds since surgery and I feel like it should be more but I am down 2 sizes in pants and one size in tops.

Thinking My Surgeon Has Lost His Mind!
My post-op plan was the same as cookie2012. Also, I was not allowed to lift more than 10 pounds until 6 weeks.

Low Testosterone?
My brother found out he had low testosterone. They offered him a cream that he could use on his upper arm or injections. He opted for the injections because the testosterone in the cream is dangerous for his wife and daughters if they come in contact with it. I know he has more energy and is sleeping better. He also has been doing some strength training and has noticed that he is building more muscle since taking the injections. Good luck to ya and try not to worry too much about it.
