  1. I'm waiting to hear back from ins. to approve me for July 31. Meanwhile after careful review of an MRI I had done in January of an ovarian cyst on my left side my surgeon suggests I have it removed the same day I get sleeved. He went so far as to consult a colleague who's an oncology gynecologist. The two of them want me to consider both procedures on the same day because its the size of a tennis ball and there's a small chance it can go from benign to malignant. The thing is I've been a cool cucumber about getting sleeved and now I'm like...oh no! What does this mean for recovery time, pain, and even more possibility of complications? Does anyone have a similar situation or have gone through this already or something like it?
  2. I'm on day 6 of pre op diet and eat 1/2 cup of rice with chorizo(Mexican sausage),beans and bacon. I'm no damn good right now. My surgery is on July 31, i have to stay focused.

    Whatcha eating today!!! Saturday

I'm exactly 1 month post op, still on puréed food but gradually experimenting with soft foods. B: 1 hb egg with 1 oz cheddar cheese Snack: protein shake 26g L: 1/4 cup tuna Snack: protein shake again D: 1/4 cup split pea soup and 1/4 cup chicken breast And of course lots of water in between
  4. since surgery i usually drink maxwell house international cafe decaf, sugar free, low cal. In French vanilla or mocha. I love it and it taste good. I drink it in a fancy tea cup and saucer the only problem is I have to reheat it half way because it takes me about 30 minutes to drink.
  5. Gas x helped me a lot too. I'm 29 days post op and the first 4 days were really hard. I could barely get anything down. I had to have a lot of patience and sip things slooooowly. By day 3 I forced down a protein shake made of water and protein powder. Definitely speak with your doctor though he or she should have the best advise for you. Good luck and feel better.

    need help with mushy foods

I cook dinner almost every night for my husband and kids. Whatever I cook for them I purée for myself for example tonight I made spaghetti with meat sauce, (the meat-ground chicken). I only puréed the meat in sauce...yummy. Yesterday I made stewed chicken with carrots, potatoes, onions, and brown rice on the side. I puréed the stewed chicken, mostly the the white meat and carrots...yummy. The other night I made chicken cutlet and puréed with some cream of chicken...yummy.
  8. I'm 6 days post op and I lost 12lbs granted I'm barely taking in 300 calories. Today I had my Jackson Pratt drain taken out and it hurt like a b***h. There was at least 15 inches of tubing inside of me, I'm so glad it's out though, it was a pain in the butt.
  9. Thanks, i saw my doc on thurday when i was discharged and he said Clear Liquids for 7 days but his discharge paperwork says protein shakes too. on friday when i made a shake it just didnt go down well. i called his office but no answered and sat and sun they are closed.
  10. No pain just general soreness and no choke or vomit. I'll keep drinking then, thanks Arts137.
  11. Wow from what I just read Im doing really bad with the post op clear liquid diet. I'm 3 days post op and have barely gotten any liquids, let alone protein it. It took me 2 days to finish a ensure clear nutritional drink which only has 9g of protein. Only 3oz of broth today and I tried to make a protein shake with unsweetened almond milk and with each sip my intestines were in knots. What I don't understand is if my doc said clear liquid diet for a week how can I possibly have a shake which is clearly not clear liquid. Maybe if I make with water that will be better, ill try that tomorrow. i know it's important to get in protein.
  12. 2 days post op and forcing those liquids down. On the day of surgery on couldn't have anything, yesterday after abdominal X-ray I was allowed liquids. I barely got down 2oz of broth and 1oz of some protein and vitamin fortified juice. Just woke up around 5:30am and could barely get down another oz of juice. I feel each sip going down and almost at the same time air and a burp come up. Is this normal? It make me feel like not drinking at all but I know I have to. Just don't want to stretch out stomach by forcing liquids.
  13. Yeah the protein shakes...that's what I want to know about. I haven't tried it yet but tomorrow I will attempt it. Meanwhile, I've been loading up on everything that's chewable like b12 vitamin, multivitamin( flint stones complete), gas-x, Pepcid and viactin calcium plus D3. Plus I've drinking ensure clear nutritional drink, it has 9g of protein and 21 vitamins and minerals.
  14. I'm one day post op, sitting here in my hospital bed feeling ok and waiting to be discharged. I'm hooked up to an IV of morphine for pain and famotidine for nausea that Keeps creeping up but never comes out. The surgey went very well and today I had an abdominal X-ray done which revealed my new stomach, it was amazing. I was cleared for having my first liquids around 2pm but all I could get down without my tummy being uncomfortable was an ounce of broth and ounce of water.
  15. My surgery is in 2days and I've been on an 800 calorie diet for 11 days, but the these last 3 day before surgery my Doc told me to do liquids only. I'm ok,and lost 15 lbs...yay
  16. I just got a call from the hospital, I'm scheduled for surgery at 7:30am tomorrow, but I have to be there at 5:30am. I am soooo ready!

    Surgery in the AM

Thanks, good luck and good health to you all.
  18. In 2 days I go for surgery. Today i drove 5 hours to pick up my 78 year mom and my older sister because they want to take care of me along with my husband and 19year old daugther while I'm in the hospital and during recovery. They'll be with me for a month. Nothing like having mom around when I'm not feeling well, I feel truly blessed.

    Family support

You just made cry. You can never be terrible when are trying to take control of your health. So get that right out of your head! I've only told my immediate family and there are range of emotions and opinions I get from them. Mostly it's worry and concern of the unknown. So I gauged each persons reaction and for those who seem interested in knowing what's it all about; I shared the high lights of my 3 years of research, and they get it. With my husband and daughter I've educating them every step of way and they are optimistic but at the same time they keep the risks involved in the back of their minds. I never asked, but mom and my sis offered to come to lighten my household load and help me focus 100% on recovery(which doesn't include lying on my butt all day...lol). I do however have another sister and brother in law who don't support me and just yesterday they noticed i lost some weight, i explained it was do to the pre op diet and their like "you see you can do it by yourself just keep doing what your doing". I'm like "are you kidding me I am practically starving myself and if I don't keep myself distracted I could eat one of my own arms off". Lol, then I said "besides you guys know every time I get on a diet I always cheat". My brother in law straight flat out said "by doing that sleeve thing you are cheating". At that point I just walked away and said sarcastically "ok thank you for your support". He later apologized. So do what you must to get healthy just prepare for some not to be on board. Good luck and good health to you.

    OMG! Ovarian Cyst too?

Look into it, talk to your surgeon and do your research. I've been monitoring my ovary since 2007, when I had a c- section and my obgyn discovered it. She actually wanted to remove it right there and then but the anesthesiologist argued that I could not make a last minute decision while under anesthesia. The obgyn got pissed at her and said "to put the patient under anesthesia again is a big risk because of her weight." So they closed me up and left it in. I changed my obgyn and like I said I've been monitoring. Had an MRI done in January to rule out fibroids and my sleeve surgeon thoroughly reveiwed my med chart and figured since I'm going under to get sleeved might as well take the ovary out. So see what your options are.
  23. Are u drinking 60 to 100 oz of water a day and a multi vitamin. I'm on my 9th day of pre op diet and lost 8lbs. I go to the gym a few times a week, which I think is helping with energy levels. I know exactly what u mean about not being able to finish schoolwork. I'm in between semesters and have been putting surgery off for a year because of nursing school. But I definitely recommend sitting with a gallon of water and cup while studying.

    OMG! Ovarian Cyst too?

I met with the surgeon today who will remove my left ovary right after getting sleeved. It's definitely happening. I did my research and I'm ok about it. Although I forgot to ask him if he can do a tubal ligation on the right ovary. I will have to call his office on Monday because I don't want anymore kids. I already have 2, that's enough for me especially since I'm turning 40 in 2 weeks.
