  1. My word............... My sleeve loves hot (temparature) stuff. When I drink very warm broth, my sleeve is so well behaved. Any thing cooler than thatt, it is unhappy!!!!! I'm still on all clears but I admit I have cheated with a couple teaspoons of SF pudding and some string cheese. I am hoping for pounds lost and a move to the mushy stage at my 1 month post op next week!!!!!! I am researching what I can have during that stage because I willbe back at work and I don't want to do ANY thing wrong!

  2. that wakes up all throughout the night with gas & reflux (throwing up a little)?

I'm 19 days out and no matter what I consume, Water, Protein Shakes, Vitamins, I'm up all night belching or having the reflux thing. I am on Prilosec 2 times a day and I do take one right before bed. I'm not getting much sleep because of this and I return to work next week!!! I switched my vitamins from thr chewable Bariatric w/ Iron to gummies and I am trying unflavored Protein today, just in case they are the cultprit. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

  3. I don't feel exactly the same way as everyone else. I am only 2 weeks out after having surgery on March 26th. I am still getting used to the idea that I will never be able to go back to the way I used to be (with food). I am not sure if thats regret because the way things used to be wasn't healthy! I never imagined I would have such a feeling of loss just because I couldn't eat. I'm definitely still mourning food, but at the same time I know this was a good decision. I just turned 31 on Friday and I know that if I continued the way I was I would start to have health problems. So, ultimately, I would tell you that if you are scheduled for surgery, there is a reason for that. Think about the outcome and why you started this journey in the first place...it will get easier everyday.

I'm 31 also. i am having some feelings of missing food also. I am praying that once I get further out I can eat what I want in a much more healthier way, i am 2 weeks out and its hard. But what's harder is that when I started this journey, I was 440lbs. I had just finished nursing school. I struggle up stairs, have a hard time fitting in chairs and I can;t find clothes that fit! I was so scared that I would not be hired for a nursing job due to my size!!!!! So food can go, being a healthier me can stay!

  4. Regret? As the ladies previously mentioned , I wish I would have done this sooner!!!!! Of course my insurance didn't pay until this year and my $$$ went towards nursing school tuition instead of self-pay for surgery but I wish I would have done this before I turrned 30. I am glad I did it before my body was riddled with diseases like hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia!!!!! I am 2 weeks out and have had a few issues but nothing that made me feel like this decision was not the right one.

  5. Lewanda,

I went on my initial consult with a weight of 440. I went into surgery after my pre-op diet with a weight of 423 (give or take per my surgeon). I weighed 416 on my 1 week post op visit. I plan on getting down to 200 pounds. My best friend had VSG 1 year ago, and he went from 438 to 230 in a year! I hear that men losr faater and he has been very dedicated in working out and eating right. I know how you feel with the people who say " you don't look like you weight that much". I just say, " Everybody carries weight differently". And know I surely do, You will do well. Praying for your insurance approval, and safe surgery and speedy recovery!!!!!!

  6. The straws have to do with swallowing air (the straw is full of air that you're pulling into your mouth), and also with the larger volume you tend to swallow when you use a straw. My plan says straws are OK if they don't cause a problems. I've been choosing to use them. I just open my mouth before I swallow, no air problems.

Water was ok, then got a bit harder. I can only take tiny sips, and just a few. But I can chew ice chips all night long. Have you tried ice chips, or SF popsicles? I know cold things seem to bother people but I do fine with them and I'm not sure I'd be able to maintain hydration at this point if it weren't for ice chips.

Do what your plan says, but if it's me and I have to choose between hydration or carbs, I'm taking the hydration.

I tried ice chips and they do work. I just so tired that they end up melting before I can get a decent amount. As for popsicles, I "got sick" when I had one in the hospital aand it usually talkes me a while to get over that.

I tried drinking with a straw.................. SO far so good. Thx a mil!

  7. Okay, I know they tell you not to BUT nothing changes and not a problem for anybody I have seen/heard. Try using a straw! Helped me tremendously.

Since sips, normal drinking and schugs hurt, i may try a straw. Why do they tell us no straws? My surgeon adamantly said no straws buy he doesn't want me dehydrated either but thats what is happening!

  8. Whether I sip or chug, my tummy doesn't like it!!!!!!! The only thing I can drink in a single sitting with some quantity to is chicken broth. I can't live off of that. I haven't had Protein in 2 days because I have been so sick and I almost passed out yesterday due to dehydration!!!!!!! I need help!

  9. I feel as though I may be getting a little annoying because I'm so excited its all I talk about. No one understand s how huge this is. Anyone else going through this?

I was overly obsessed with my surgey in the weeks leading up to it. The bad thing was I was having my test for my RN boards 4 days before surgery~~ Fortunately I passed. My surgery went well. When I woke up i was freeaking out a little because i couldn't see (i had to take out my contacts) and I still had the tube in my throat. Pain was bearable but i still used the PCA because I felt uncomfortable.

  10. z

I'm having it at DePaul hospital in Norfolk, Dr. Salzberg if my Dr. too. I like her, but her scheduler is the one messing things up.

Missmarbe--- I found out about Dr. S. through a friend of mine, she had the Gastic Bypass done but it was with Dr. S. and she spoke wonders about her.

sooo---- your 10 days in, how's it going for you now ????

My Dr. Salzberg (David Arnold) is a male. I did see that there is a Dr. Salzberg (female) on the southside.

I'm doing ok but frustrated that I am still on Clear liquids for 3 more weeks! i'm tired and still a little sore but no regrets at all.

  11. I too am feeling drepressed. I am 10 days post op and I have been brought to tears many time in the last two days. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to be sleeved but I cn;t stand that I so tired. Also, everytime I drink I get horrible gas and I haven't been able to get my 60 oz od fluids in at all. I really which I was given permission to advance to full liquids or mushies because I think having a little substance would help. I don't know what to do

  12. Amanda 3.0- Who is your surgeon? That pre op sounds way better then what I am facing. I wouldn't be so worried if I was able to pick and choose my Protein powder but I am forced to spend $250 on 2 weeks of what he sells. Have not tried it yet

My surgeons office sells food too. They have a medical weight loss program in his office. I freaked out because I thought I would have to spent a lot $$$ on food. I only purchased a little bit and I stuck to 2 Protein shakes (Atkins, Pure Protein) a day and lean meat and veggies for dinner for my two week pre-op.

This clear liquid post op is running me ragged because I have at least 3 more weeks of Jello, broth, SF popsicles and Water (usually with the drink packets) to go! I just want to eat something!!

  13. I'm 1 week post op today. I'm gassy, sore and tired. But I wouldn't trade it for the world!! I have burning/soreness in the biggest incisions so I use a heating pad to combat that. I don't get all my fluids in and I have only been doing one Protein Shake a day. Every time I drink I have the gurgling thing to. I'm not humgry, I just wish I had more choices to drink/eat. I go to my 1st post op appt tomorrow so I hope he advances me to full liquids. I don't want any more Jello ( I purchased too much) and I think that I will not eat the pudding I bought either!
