  1. I turned up the exercise in those months which contributed greatly to my downsizing. Muscles up, fat down, smiles abounding.
  2. Fiddleman, I actually like everything on Oprah's list. I am especially fond of agave nectar and dark honey. I have a friend who gets his stevia shipped from South America somewhere. I am nuts about blackstrap molasses but it is sometimes hard to find. When all else fails I have my wife stick her finger in my coffee, she's mighty sweet.
  3. Got my daughter, granddaughters, wife, and cats: Tigger, Cleocatra, and Jumping Jack Flash, watching Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years. Had take out Chinese, coffee from the Kuerig, watching a sub-standard rapper, (according to my granddaughter). Come on 2014 , I don't sweat you! Edit: Oops, should have said Richard Clark.....
  4. You think like me, SandeeD. I used my surgery to test people, see what they are made of, friends and strangers. My friends, I am glad to say, came through with loyalty and understanding. I told the strangers because of a morbid curiosity I have about the nature of people who attack what they don't understand. They didn't disappoint me either.
  5. jashantee, all of those things are possibilities for you. Most them will take great effort but I sense that you are up to the challenge. Before surgery, I was a sick, obese, tired old man. I am still old, older, but no longer sick, obese or tired. I just spent the day with a guy in his 30's shoveling gravel and moving bricks for 6 hours. He honestly acted and looked more tired than I did. I am 65. I am more capable now in many areas than before. It is a life changer if you make it so. Go get 'em!
  6. I am 65 now and I was 63 when I got my sleeve. Best thing I've done in a long time. It was like going back in time. The time we have left is precious, might as well spend it strong and healthy. I am now.
  7. Thanks, Alex! I am honored to be a partner in the mission of this great forum. Thank you for establishing this repository of vital information and support. May it continue many years and positively affect many lives.
  8. I am moving this to the Florida forum. I like gratitude. Kidding. Hilarious!
  9. I feel privileged that as a man I can empathize with menopause somewhat. During cancer treatment I was infused with Lupron, a hormone treatment designed to retard testosterone. Subsequently, I went through many night sweats and, most disturbing, weird mood swings. Crying because of toilet paper commercials is less than manly. I am glad I discontinued that emasculation nightmare. May your time be uneventful.
  10. That about covers the rules. I would say that spiciness is sometimes a factor and I find that I can eat more in the morning. I must say that vomiting with the sleeve is much less violent than before. My experience with the flu and from my drinking days left my abdomen sore and it dragged on too long. With the sleeve it's out and over. My sleeve, which I call "The Bouncer", gets his job done quickly.
  11. Welcome to the newcomers! My wife got the RNY and I was sleeved later. We helped each other through the downs, stalls, and ups. We have both passed goal and do not miss the combined 245 pounds that came between us. Our hugs are now real hugs not just belly bumps.
  12. I like this guy! Well, there goes the rubber hamburger rib. Itching powder?
  13. Since they are mostly grown up I would be dead honest with them and tell them directly your goals as well as the advantages and risks of the surgery. You don't need to feel guilty. They will benefit from the new you. You could enlist their help, helping you would make them feel better.
  14. RJ, Buy a rubber hamburger, any novelty website. Cut it in half, put it in the half he is sure to grab. Won't solve your problem but would be fun.
  15. Darn! Sorry that happened to you. My dizzy spells and low blood pressure attacks were due to dehydration. This occurred before Sleeving and had some connection with chemotherapy which I was going through. Hope all is well!
  16. Don't eat something harmful. You could harm yourself. Be smart. Depending on what you want to eat you could go the ER.

  18. Wow...lotsa heavy hitters here! Good thing guys get sappy when they get older...I probably couldn't have taken this cuteness overload in the old days. Take an already cute kid and throw the love you have for them in and you have the recipe for a meltdown. Amazingly powerful little creatures, aren't they?
  19. I went to unflavored whey protein, most protein powders are way too sugary for me. Threw some natural peanut butter in there, too, did me fine.
  20. Would it help to turn the tables, do some FP work on him? Done at the right times it could open his eyes as to how it feels, My RNY wife and I do FP on each other occasionally, when we are sitting before a great meal I normally say, "Eat slow!" It is as much for me as it is for her. We look at each other's plates at buffets. We try to keep it good natured, just being coaches for each other. We went to Christmas supper at my nieces house. She has beautiful dinnerware and all the place settings were mapped out and carded. Wife and I were given small plates, they ran out of big plates and knew that we eat like birds. They also knew that we would not be offended. I told my nephew who sat next to us, "See, I filled my plate up, too." He laughed as he had a big plate that was stacked vertically pretty high. Mine was covered but with gaps between items. I think the big thing is to maintain humor and the underlying understanding that we care for each other and that clumsy attempts to help are still expressions of affectionate involvement. Back to the coach thought. Men sometimes get a team mentallity. Members of a sports team or military squad prod each other to do better. Nothing personal is meant, it's just a striving to bring the team to success.

  22. Flat out adorable!
  23. The 3 times I cleaned my closet consisted mostly of thrift store clothes anyway. I didn't pay any substantial amount for clothing until my goal weight was past. I never had much doubt that I was going to get slim and never cried over my clothes. I told this before but maybe you guys weren't here. My wife saved a halter top and shorts that she wore shortly after we were married. It stayed in her closet for many years. She gained much weight and lost it after her RNY in 2011. She got into it in 2012. Man, I was proud of her. Still am. 1972 2011 2012
  24. I gave mine to the thrift store that kept me in clothing during my "too big for regular stores" days and my shrinking days. I was glad they were there for me so they got what out-grew me, I cleaned my closet 3 times.
