I Got Insurance Approval Today!

**Waves hat in the air** ...YEEEEEHAW!!!! -
I am 6 months out and it is still the same. Eat too fast and regret will follow. One needs to pause before eating like Michael Jordan at the free-throw line. Visualize what you are about to do, follow through, don't lose concentration, stay in the zone. Beats "shouting Europe at the toilet."

O.T is right. Give it time. Especially don't make the Hot and Sour soup mistake that I made. Ruined me for it forever.

I Was So "disappointed"
gmanbat replied to kmbrlycool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate my old sweaters. They used to be too tight. Now I swim in them. They remind me of when I was a teen and let my girlfiend wear my sweater to show off that she had a boyfriend. She looked in them then like I look in them now. I don't have a boyfiend. Homey don't play dat. -
Free Tummy Tuck At Burn Unit
gmanbat replied to mesaucedo's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hmmm....my research indicates otherwise as indicated in my thread about donating excess skin. http://www.traumaburn.org/who/skinbank/faq.shtml says free tummy tucks for the skin isn't done. Something is wrong here. -
Wife and I were talking about the possibility of donating our excess folds of skin in exchange for cosmetic surgery. A little research this morning put that idea to rest. http://www.traumaburn.org/who/skinbank/faq.shtml Skin harvesting is only done on deceased folks, primarily because of the FDA requiring a quarantine period of 6 months. Also, expensive specialists must do the work, you get a lot more skin from a whole body, etc. We are back to our defense mechanism mindset that loose is lovely.

How Much Have U Lost Since You Were Sleeved?
gmanbat replied to Christina760's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Sleeved Jan. 16, 2012. Lost 70 pounds in 195 days, about 1/3 pound a day. I am now 10 pounds from goal. I am off of apnea breather, diabetes meds, and BP medicine. What we need is a super-star who was sleeved to make an over-abundance of skin a fashion trend. But until that happens my Roux-N-Y wife, (who has also lost a bunch), and I have decided that loose is lovely in our private society. Beside that, if we ever need a skin graft we have plenty to spare. -
We have a wine rack that came with our furnished rental here in Dade City. My wife filled it up with sugar-free syrups from T.J.Maxx and a little from Sam's Club. We hit the Organo Gold coffee every day, she can really jazz 'em up!

Howdy, neighbor, Dade City here. 5 days is a bit long but not beyond extrordinary. My wife, Roux N Y girl, goes that long occasionally. I'm a sleever and get fixed up with fig and prune eating, Metamucil, and/or Organo gold coffee. Be sure to keep the Water intake up. Whole wheatTriscuits seem to help, too.

Good Reminder Of Why I Wanted This In The First Place
gmanbat replied to Mell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I went with my family to the Lowry Zoo in Tampa. Very crowded, (it was $5 day), and very hot and humid. I did fine, walked nearly the whole time, only getting a bit tired after 4 hours. Not bad for a 63 year old who was 330 pounds this time last year. Now I'm 232. I could have never made it through this before. The heat and exertion would have put me out. I thank God for my operation. I am a much better man for my wife, daughter, and granddaughters. -
4 Weeks Post-Op Is It Safe To Start My Boxing Classes? :d This Is The Only Way I Like To Get My Exercise In <3

Doc is the best judge. I must say it makes me wince to imagine getting punched in my torso which resembles that of someone who had a job as a ninja throwing star target.. -
Anyone Ever Lost Friends After Knowing You Were Getting The Surgery?
gmanbat replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You know when you are out walking, enjoying yourself, and suddenly a vile odor hits your nose? You look around, smell your shirt, and puzzle a while. Then you think to look on the bottom of your Nikes and there it is; nestled in the treads is evidence that someone didn't clean up after Bowzer. You make your way back home and wash off the doo under the outside faucet, thankful that the stench wasn't a permanent fixture. It makes me think of stupid opinions. They stink up your life until you realize what they are and wash them away with intelligence. Then you give serious thought to avoiding those that leave caca in their wake. -
When Did You Start Having Gallbladder Attacks?
gmanbat replied to mesaucedo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This reason occured to me a well. Money. Another pile for their pocket. I'd hate to think so but it is not beyond reason. Mine came out 2 weeks before my scheduled sleeve operation. I had a severe attack, it was my request. My wife had hers out when she got her Roux-N-Y. We haven't missed them. -
True that. We went to Siesta Key beach here in Florida yesterday. It was more crowded than we had anticipated. We found out the reason for that was that several other beaches were closed due to bacterial levels. Siesta Key was OK, it didn't have water drains feeding into it. I would stick to clean pools for a while.

Friends...how Many Of Us Have Them?
gmanbat replied to Jolie_KeMi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is shocking to us to discover the real nature of those we've known and loved. Given the right circumstance the abject selfishness of immaturity overpowers the sensitivity that rides along with affection. Many people put on a good front but are as shallow as the veneer on discount box-kit bookcases. In such a situation I look at one thing: are they teachable? Do they want to see things from your viewpoint or are they adamant that you change back to the state which made them feel comfortable? If I determine that they are just ignorant but still care, gentle teaching is in order. If they insist on being a cold, stationary dullard, ....."The world is full of many things and many people, and I shan't be lonely. I'll find comfort elsewhere". -
I am praying and believing with you. Prostate cancer survivor here, diagnosed in 2009. I was told the sleeve would lessen the chance of reoccurance. So far, so good.

We need a scale with a mood-sensing self-preservation chip. When it senses anger at a weight gain it lowers the reading by 4 pounds.

Scared To Leave A Lifetime Of Food Behind
gmanbat replied to krystal24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Suppose you have someone you truly love. Being around them and experiencing them makes you happy. But then this person starts making ever-increasing demands on your life. They move into every corner of your waking hours and even deprive you of sleep. They smother you, make themselves the center of your life, and cause you pain, weakness and embarrassment. But you still love them. You don't kick them entirely out of your life, you just back them off, bring them into control, demand respect from them. Good food is not evil. Too much food can be life-sapping and lethal. I still love good food. I just refuse to drown in it. -
The ClamCase for IPad that is advertising on this forum is fantastic! I just got mine, all white, (they have black and one called Trooper that is modeled after the Imperial Troopers in Star Wars; black and white). It has a bluetooth keyboard in it which to me is much easier than typing on the screen keyboard. When you close it it puts the IPad to sleep, wakes it up when you open it. Holds a charge well and charges easily. The case opens 360 degrees so you can set it up vertically or just hold it like an uncased IPad as well as horizontally to make it into a netbook-looking pc. It is rated #1 by PC magazine, Editors Choice. Check it out by clicking on the ads here.

Now that I have lost considerable weight I have found less muscle under that layer of fat than I thought was there. Perhaps some of my weight loss was muscle but I think my perception of how much of me was muscle was overly optimistic. Now onto a bodybuilding regime!

I have found that affection makes one quite adaptable to the bodily characteristics of the one loved, even if those characteristics are outside of societal norms. I am going to get a bit graphic here: the loose skin could actually be worked into the general erotic scene, even an asset. Guys with some semblance of emotional maturity and intellect can make this adjustment with ease. Not wanting do bestow upon you TMI but my wife has lost nearly 90 pounds since her Roux N Y. The following guys convey my feelings about it:

How Do You Know The Sign Of Fullness?
gmanbat replied to MonetteVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is easy to tell that you have overeaten about 10-15 minutes after you have eaten. The trick is to know when enough is enough WHILE you are eating. This brings up the concept of eating slowly with concentration. If you are distracted by TV, conversations, etc. you may pass to ideal stopping point and realize it later. While you are eating, eating is your primary task, just as when your driving a car on a busy street. Overeating is not immediately lethal like losing concentration when driving but can be quite uncomfortable. My policy is that when something especially tasty is before me I prepare myself mentally to take it slow, knowing that I could get carried away and stuff down too much, too fast. This is especially important when you go to a restaurant and order a meal that you know will mostly end up in a take-home box. Putting that fork down between bites and reflecting on the feasibility of the next bite is helpful. At home you learn to serve yourself the right portion and DON'T GO BACK FOR MORE. I used to violate myself by putting down 2 pitchers of beer plus shots, sandwiches, and peanuts. 2 mountainous buffet plates, drinks, and deserts were also the norm. Now I have a wonderful belly that talks back to me in a loud voice and is saving my life.
