  1. i would definitely first think not enough fluid. sip, sip, sip.
  2. kelly - not sure this will help, but if you find the sip you have taken is too big, hold it in your mouth and swallow a little at a time. If I take too big a sip or a gulp, I pay big time with a huge spasm. The pain is teaching me real quick.
  3. I have been able to get in the fluid and protein but I know what you mean about drinking too fast or in my case taking too much in one sip. I pay dearly for that with a nice spasm in my throat and chest that doesn't go away quick enough. It really hurts, so I try to pay attention to my sips. And it seems I'm sipping all day long to get in the minimum.
  4. sleeved on 4/23. My incisions are almost healed. The glue is there, but there are all dried up. Cherrybomb - I was advised to call the surgeon is they were not healing properly. Maybe you should give the office a call?
  5. Kellie, here's my postop diet - 2 wks full liquid = protein drinks, SF/FF jello and pudding, thinned instant mashed potatoes, pureed thinned 1% or FF cottage cheese, thinned cream of wheat, applesauce, low carb/low sugar/low fat yogurt, clear broth.
  6. Sleeved on 4/23 and was way too painful to sleep on side until last night, so 4th night I got on my side. The pain was excruciating getting onto my side, but once there and with heating pad on stomach, it felt sooo good. When I woke, I was on my back so I have no idea how long I stayed on my side. I do know I never slept on my back before though, and I usually sleep on my left side. Had to give up stomach sleeping years ago because of lower back pain.
  7. I have no idea about the number of staples. I just know there's some kind of double line and they stay there forever and ever!
  8. Kellie - I'm the same. Doing pretty good but need help to get out of bed. Not sure what sleevie is saying either. Woke this morning with what felt like a spasm at base of throat and into chest. After pain meds (liquid oxycodone) and a little Water, and a muscle relaxer (flexeril), it is easing up - thank goodness. Just another day of taking it easy, hanging out in recliner, watching TV, and got the heating pad on. It's really something how surgeons and preop and postop diets differ. Dogmom, I thought my diet was soo strict but yours sounds even more so.
  9. notime - good to hear from you!!
  10. Hope all went well. send an update asap!
  11. what are you taking for the pain?
  12. oh, and I'm still up in pounds. weight today 209.8 up from 203 day of surgery. Gotta stay off the scale cuz that is frickin depressing.
  13. So good to hear from you! Amazing, no nausea or vomiting here. I did take zofran just in case in hospital. Tolerating everything I take in okay. It's 3:30p and I'm on my second protein drink, so about 12 ounces there so far. Have had at least 16 ounces of water, and a few tablespoons of watered down instant mashed potatoes, oh and a few spoons of yogurt too! Yesterday I felt like I had 2 swords in my chest and abdomen just crisscrossing around in there. Yeowwwouch. Today for awhile it felt like something was stuck at the base of my throat. The heating pad and microwave bed buddy are also my new best friends! Hanging out in the recliner and watching TV. Plan on taking a shower later tonight. Keep posting!! Hugs to all.
  14. "Sleevie" and I are home from hospital today. Surgeon found a large hiatal hernia and had to repair that first, but said my liver was perfect. Phewww! I really was worried. Couldn't sleep at all first night in hospital but made up for it last night and this morning. Came home about 3p and so glad to be home. Drinking a protein drink and water right now. Hope everyone else is okay. Hope you guys will check in??!!
  15. Hi All - Postop from surgery 4/23. Home from hospital today and this is my first post. Still feel like I'm in another world. Also had a surprise hiatal hernia that surgeon said was large and he had to fix that first. Otherwise, all went well. Will post more later.
  16. So happy for you! So many things I dream of, more energy, smaller clothes, eating less. And the recognition from loved ones is always appreciated! Good for you in making the right choice for yourself. You're like dyno-mite!!! Keep it up, I'm on your tail, lol.
  17. Stirling - we are here for you. the last thing you need before surgery is negativity and pressure. They should respect what you have decided to do. You have made the right decision for yourself, and you can get the support you deserve and need right here. Good luck kiddo! Be strong.
  18. Tomorrow for me too - Have to be there at 5:30a for surgery at 7:30a. Here we go!! Good luck to all!
  19. Surgery 4/23 7:30a! Can't wait for the hours to go by. I may be 56, but I'm a YOUNG 56, and I'm ready to get out there and LIVE like I haven't in years now. I want to go hiking. I want to buy clothes and feel good in them. I want to feel confident with I'm out and about. I want to feel healthy and energized. I'm ready. No one knows how much time they have left, so whatever it is, I want to be my best! Wish me luck and say a prayer if you will. Thanks!
  20. Wow lots of hospital workers. I don't work in patient care, but am a medical transcriptionist for the University of Michigan and work from home. So I "hear" a lot! Feeling extremely hungry today, and think it's gonna be a long day even though I'm working til 4. Gotta keep busy. I do feel very grateful that I'm first case tomorrow. Here's my list of what I'm taking to hospital - ear plugs (probably won't use), slippers, kindle, phone, pen and paper, one nightgown, breath strips, and a few toiletries. I'm told I'll be there 2 nights. First thing the morning after I'll have swallow study, then start full liquids. Second morning, go home. As I sit here with my stomach growling, I became more aware of it and decided to tell it I was sorry cuz tomorrow it was going to get chopped and go through major changes. A new one will be born. It growled louder! I've seen many names for them, sleevina, etc. I haven't come up with one yet. Maybe nanababy/babynana cuz it looks like a banana.., no maybe not, maybe just sleevie. NUT told us to think of it as a newborn. What would you feed your newborn and how would you introduce foods. I liked that, I think it will remind me not to rush things.
  21. I stopped off and had a stylist straighten out my daughter's butcher haircut job on me. I've got Unjury Vanilla and Chocolate Splendor, some Nectar Syntrax sample packs, nonfat dry milk, nonfat chic broth, SF jello and pudding, true lemon for water and other flavors, boxed mashed potatoes (to be thinned like soup), 1% cottage cheese (to be pureed), carbmaster and greek yogurts. NUT told me too much sugar in tomato soup (which I love), so I should take tomato juice and add milk - somehow just doesn't seem the same. Gonna do my nails tonight and pluck the old eyebrows! Where the heck is everybody else??
  22. My biggest fear too. I'm worried cuz I take a lot of Tylenol and wonder if that can enlarge the liver. I'm so sorry that happened to you. Hopefully, it won't be much longer before you can go for it again. Good luck.
  23. Well so far we have 5 members! Sounds like a good group to me! But I hope some others will see the group and join us. How's everyone feeling today? I have been doing some things around the house and personal care in preparation. The other day I cleaned out my dresser drawers and closet. Then I did the bathroom cupboards. Yesterday I cleaned the frig top to bottom. Yuck, something had spilled in there that wasn't pleasant but it's sparkling now. I've done a pedicure and facial. My daughter gave me a haircut. Actually she chopped it. I asked for a trim from a person who has never cut any hair so I guess I got what I deserved... Yikes it's chin length and not so nice right now. Thank goodness it will grow (unless I lose it all from this surgery, lol). Today I'm going to Walmart for some postop shopping and things for others. Tomorrow I have to work from 8a to 4p but I'm glad cuz that will take up a good part of the day. I'll be off work for 2 weeks after surgery. My surgery is at 7:30 am and I have to be there at 5:30. It's almost here everyone!! I'm not feeling nervous, a little excited and mostly just want to get it done and over. We are gonna be on the loser's bench soon. Oh, on this preop diet, my starting weight was 212, and today it is 203.5, so a loss of 8.5 lbs. Not bad, my liver better look like a little shrunken prune for that surgeon after all this suffering! How's everyone else doing today?
  24. I'm going to "groups" right now and figure out how to start it, then you just go to groups and choose to join.
  25. I'm having surgery at U of M on Monday 4/23, Dr. Varban. YEP THAT'S THIS COMING MONDAY -YIPPPEEEEEE!!! I also work for them, although I work from home. My husband had his sleeve at the U last year with Dr. Dimick. Anyway, I love the U and think highly of them. Great group of professionals in the Bariatric Department. You'll be in good hands MrKraid. Any questions, etc., just ask me. You can also private message me and I'll be happy to answer whatever I can. Good luck!
