  1. Hi J! Congrats on your surgery... I know exactly how you feel. I was so sick from the anesthesia and narcotics after my surgery (02/20/12) that I could not hold down an ice chip. I threw up EVERY time I sipped water. I ended up staying in the hospital for 3 days until I could hold down water for a day. Went home on day 4... I remember sitting in the hospital bed thinking "WTF did I just do?"... and to top it off I had a terrible cough.... it does get better though! Try using a pillow to brace against your tummy when you need to vomit or cough, it helps tremendously! Little sips of water, walk walk walk... and it DOES sloooooowly get better

    3Rd Day After Syrgery

Quinn! I could not keep ANYTHING down, not even 1oz of water for 3 days after surgery... just keep trying a little at a time. I am at 2 weeks and 3 days now and can tell you, it does get better... just a little slower for some of us
  4. Holy balls. I have always had bad cramps, but TOM started a few days ago, like clockwork, no surprises (thank goodness), but the cramps are awful! Ahhhhhhhh! I just tried to take some tylenol, it still takes me a few trys to get medication down, so now I am sitting in my cubicle at work, feel stuffed full of the water I gulped, and crampy... please tell me the cramps get better as months go by?!
  5. Are their any protein supplements that are actually (or close too) flavorless? Thanks!

    Flavorless Protein?

Thanks Ladies! At this point I will try anything... Is the Unjury available in any stores? Or online only?

What Did You Tell Your Friends?

I have told just about everyone. Yes, there are those who do not agree (my mother was the most vocal protestor), but I did this for MY LIFE! Obesity is a disease and I am using this surgery as a tool, as I would any disease that could benefit from a surgery... My response to those that think this is the 'easy way' is that this is the most difficult decision I have ever made, and its not going to make me skinny overnight. I must work hard for it. Physically, and mentally, as I have had a lifelong love affair with food. And for those who do not believe me, or believe in me, forget them, "good for me, I found the 'easy way'" (<---someone on here told me that! Lol!!)

    Monday Motivation

VJ! This is my favorite quote ever I constantly remind myself of this!
  9. Congrats to the two of you!! And what an awesome feeling it must be to have that ring on!
  10. Its great to hear that mostly everyone is feeling good! I am at 2 weeks post-op today! Yay! Each day gets a bit better. I can finally start mushies today. I attempted to eat a peice of string cheese. I nibbled on it for an hour. Lol! Nothing is coming back up so that's a good sign! I am having a terrible time getting my protien shakes in everyday. I can't find one that I like. Also having trouble getting all my water in. I have tried Propel, Gatorade, and PowerAde, I can't stand the taste of any of them... I fear getting dehydrated, but so far I am feeling good
  11. I have not had that yet, but I think many refer to it as 'slimming'. Search it on the forum and you should find more info.

3 Days Post Op And Hungry

No solids! You do not want to comprimise the strength of your staple line. You may feel great, but you must give your new stomach time to heal. I have never heard of anyone being able to drink that quickly post op. Definately call your doctor.
  13. Congrats!! I can't wait to join you!
  14. I would remind those cosidering wls that no two experiences are the same. Kind of like having a baby. Everyone has their own story. Know that you gotta listen to your doctor, listen to your body, and go with the flow
  15. I am 12 days post-op, and I think I have gone through every emotion humanly possible in the past 12 days... I know its all 'normal' stuff. I keep telling myself that a runner cannot have knee surgery and run a marathon the next day. I just want to be healed, past the liquids, past the mushies, I just want to know what my new normal life will be...? I want to be able to get my 64 oz of liquid in. The most I've done so far is about 45. I am stuffed, and scared of dehydration... I am not hungry at all, but I want to CHEW! Starting Monday my diet allows mushy food, soft cheese, soft meats, cooked veggies. I hope it helps... I have read on here that 'it gets better in time', and if I work on it the weight loss is coming. Right?!
  16. Lol! I just had this same conversation with my bff! I need to CHEW! I am 8 days post op and want to chew! I ate a popcicle earlier, that helped a bit... I just keep reminding myself of all the crazy diets I've tried in the past. Everyone says it gets better We got this!
  17. Hey Melly I was one week post op yesterday, and have lost 17lbs so far. I think we are 'normal'... yay us!
  18. Hey Melly I was one week post op yesterday, and have lost 17lbs so far. I think we are 'normal'... yay us!
  19. I have noticed on quite a few threads that many people make up stories/excuses to give to work, family, etc. This makes me sad I have told everyone I know! I am proud of my decision... Am I in the minority? I work in a fairly large company, office environment, and while I have great co-workers, of course there are those that are chatty and nosey and probably talking behind my back. But from the start of my journey to WLS (which is on Monday! Yay!) I have not kept it secret. Everyone knows I am a chubby girl, it's obvious, and I guess I feel that the more people that know the more support/accountability I will have. I have a few friends that disagree and think I am nuts, but I do respect their opinion. I most common reaction I get is "you are not heavy enough for that!", but I am 5'5" and 264lbs! Once they actually know my numbers they realize it is a health issue... Regardless of their opinion they pray for me and love me just the same. I suppose my point is that this is LIFE changing surgery and I need all the support I can get. Whether it is a prayer, a "good luck", or simply not offering me a cupcake (there is alllllwaaaayyys food around at work), I appreciate the help. I can't imagine going through this without the support of those around me.

    Hello Vsg Family

Congrats! I too am a 02-20 sleever!! Yay us! There are a bunch of us on here! I had a rough start, but today I feel about 85% back to my normal self, minus the food. Lol! I look forward to sharing experiences

    Edamame: Have You Tried It?

I opened my freezer for the first time post-op today... there was my edamame (oh, how I miss it!) My Mother is Japanese so I have been eating it all my life. I often bring one of the frozen packets to work, leave it on my desk, by the afternoon it is perfectly defrosted and yummy with a pinch of salt I can't wait to eat some yummy (healthy foods) again!
  22. Wow! Amazing transformation! Congrats

    Hurting A Lot Today!

I am not sure how to describe it, but holding it against my tummy firmly makes everything inside feel better. I feel like my stomach spasms when liquid that is cold hits it, it helps to have a little pressure there... It also makes a world of difference when I need to cough or when I sneezed. I hold it in front of me while watching tv, laying in bed (even when I lay on my side), riding in the car... My hospital gave me a stuffed animal moose (Bari Moose) that works the same way, but I prefer the pillow

    Hurting A Lot Today!

Hi Ro! I was sleeved Monday, and boy what a difference a day makes! I have been taking Tylenol for pain. I've been taking it every 4 to 6 hours like clock work. I notice that if I let it wear off it is pointless... Also my pillow has become my bestfriend. I hold it against my tummy at all times. Something about the firmness makes a big difference... You are doing much better than me with the liquids. I sipped a record breaking 8oz of water, 3oz of broth, and half of a popcicle today. But that was more than yesterday... baby steps And don't feel alone. You are lucky to have a supportive wife, and everyone on this forum are amazing and willing to help! Keep us posted on how you are doing
